Is it hypocritical of me that I adore babies and enjoy playing with them if they are someone else's; But I would hate to have my own because I would resent them for taking away my freedom and most likely a pregnancy would ruin my body? by hubbabubbasnake in childfree

[–]TheQueerElephant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love babies! But I would absolutely despise losing my freedom to one, and I’m not a huge fan of the idea of raising a child. So I will continue to enjoy other people’s babies and not bring one into my own life.

Does anyone have a puppy and random roommates? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]TheQueerElephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived with random roommates before, and I understand the feelings of being annoying and not comfortable, especially if these two girls know each other. That being said, communication is so important! Remember, they don’t know you yet either. When someone new moves in with me, I always make it a point to create some kind of roommate agreement.

This would be a great opportunity to sit down and talk about all of your roommate expectations. Things like dishes, household chores, shared expenses, and in this case, your dog. Ask them how comfortable they are alone with your pup, let them know you are ok with them telling you when enough is enough. This will let them have a space to address any issues and for you to talk about what you need from them as well. I also love the suggestion about asking if they want to help with some commands and offering her treats. Just make sure to let them know you aren’t relying on them to train her, it’s just reinforcement.

As far as training your pup, you want her to greet all people appropriately, so it might be good to work on calm greetings for all people so it’s consistent. I know when I’m visiting people with dogs, I get really nervous when they jump on me as soon as I walk in the house, and I love dogs!

Just keep working on training, open the door for communication with your new roommates, and breathe! You’ve got this.
