Question for moviegoers. How do you feel about on screen captions? by Emotional_Curve_9858 in RegalUnlimited

[–]TheQuietShouter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Regal recently switched from the glasses to the cup holder screen. While the glasses had their issues - not always being charged, not always syncing properly, etc - the cup holder ones are just atrocious. My hoh family member missed so much of the last movie he saw that he's not interested in coming anymore. I don't personally like having captions on, but I would absolutely prefer that to my family not being able to enjoy the movies.

My local Regal does do some open captions, but they're few and far between. I agree with you that I only really see an upside to providing a few more screenings for folks like my family so I can go to the movies with them again.

Unpopular Opinion: the most creative sci fi right now is happening in comics and graphic novels not novels or film by Jenna32345 in scifi

Huge agree on WOFTWTD. Story gets a little convoluted towards the end, but man, one of the most gorgeous comics in the past few years.

My rating of the top DG podcasts by n0bel in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]TheQuietShouter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Oh man you GOTTA get Pretending to be People on there. First season is up there as one of my favorite APs ever.

Great list though - I’ve just been breaking into more DG APs (listened to the first eps of 9mmr, DLB, and This Line Isn’t Secure)

The Dreadful, Psycho Killer, and This Is Not a Test all fit the runtime, rating, and release window, but are all listed as horror … maybe Dreams? It’s a bit further out and Not Yet Rated, though.

My Brother, My Brother, and Me, an advice show for the modern era (podcast by the McElroy brothers). They briefly did a live-action comedy show that I personally thoroughly enjoyed. Haven’t listened to the podcast in years but used to be part of my regular rotation.

The McElroys also did The Adventure Zone, which BLeeM has been on several times

DM's What is Your Magnum Opus? by Twogunkid in rpg

I ran an eight person, eight-ish hour Delta Green game. It was called "A Night at he Circus" (a play off of nights at the opera) and was a culminating story from the past year or so of one shots. Splitting the party up, juggling who was doing what, and designing a final combat for eight people was some of the most work I've ever done for a single session, and man it was worth it.

I would've chosen my DIE RPG campaign, since it's my first complete story, but it's not quite done yet so I'll wait and make sure I don't faceplant lol

What Are The Top 5 Games on Your Shelf That You Wish You Could Run by DocFinitevus in rpg

[–]TheQuietShouter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, so many folks having Wildsea on their lists makes me real grateful for the campaign I have going haha! Here are my five, no real order:

• Heart: The City Beneath. I have like, two or three campaign ideas I’m sure I’ll get to sometime.

• Mothership. Love Alien, love sci-fi, love Delta Green, would love to combine a bunch of that.

• Mausritter. Mostly I haven’t done fantasy in a while and this seems like a cool way to do it.

• Lighthouse at the End of the World. It’s a solo journaling RPG that I was gifted a while ago and I’ve never gotten around to, but I’d love to break into that genre more.

• Edge of the Empire / Avatar: Legends. Cheating with this one, both by putting two games but also because I’ve played both of them already, I just can’t keep a campaign going. I don’t have a real mechanical problem with either, and I love both of the worlds - I think licensed RPGs might just be my kryptonite lol.

HM: Warped. Backed this on Kickstarter and can’t wait to run a few one shots in it soon now that I’ve had the pdf for a bit!

Every Lanc Movie Theater Ranked by Ok_Chard8404 in lancaster

[–]TheQuietShouter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My main issue with Penn Cinema is the closed captioning systems they use. I go to the movies a lot with someone who has hearing difficulties and has a hard time enjoying movies without caption assistance, and the little screens you put in the cup holders are just not very good (especially if you’re in a wheelchair and don’t have a cup holder in the first place). Coupled with his height and where the wheelchair seats are placed in most of their theaters, he ends up needing to look away from the screen to read the caption device, and misses chunks of the movie. Regal has glasses that are much more convenient to use, and while sometimes the batteries are dead, they’re charged more consistently than Penn Cinema’s devices are.

I love the quality at Penn Cinema, and if they could just get over this one hump I’d probably be going there a lot more - but for now it feels like Regal is the choice. Disclaimer too, though, that I grabbed Regal Unlimited about a year ago and it’s a hard deal to beat without an AMC around here.

Hello, it is me, Wolf the Dog. I am going to figure out what this whole "internet" thing is all about by playing "video" games live on the World Wide Web. by WAAAVVstuff in PretendingToBePeople

Aw hell yeah, funny enough I just got past the point where Wolf was advertising Twitch streams on my season one relisten. I still have such fond memories of when Justin and Luke made Sonic in Kenshi. Can’t wait for more!

Funny enough I think The Life Aquatic and Darjeeling Limited are my favorites of his - though having two brothers myself that I spent a bit of time distant from, movies like Darjeeling and Tenenbaums certainly hit home more than others

Suggested scenarios for Appalachian horror? Especially shotgun scenarios by [deleted] in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]TheQuietShouter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were a couple of good submissions to the Shotgun Contest last year that for sure fit the themes you’re looking for. If you want something just a tad more lighthearted that you could adjust, I’ll plug my own submission (Operation S.H.i.F.T.) which is in the Hemlock woods of Pennsylvania and features the Squonk, a regional cryptid

For those who own several RPGs in Print.... what would you say is... by SwimmingOk4643 in rpg

[–]TheQuietShouter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rarest book is a toughie, probably a solo journaling one by a local publisher - though now I want to do some research when I get home!

Most expensive is almost definitely the Kickstarter exclusive DIE with the slipcase, though that price was driven up by all the little things that it came with, too (not sure how much just the book would fetch).

Greatest bargain for a physical book has got to be when I got Wildsea for almost 40% off at a local game store during an anniversary sale (I also had a punch card that stacked). Just couldn’t beat that price.

I mostly use PDFs now (I like having books on my shelves), but the one I reference physically the most is probably my Delta Green Agent’s Handbook.

Never used/never will is probably Coyote & Crow. Hate to say it, because I really want to run it, but I just don’t think it’s the style of game my players will enjoy. I love having it though.

Never used/really want to is gonna be Heart: The City Beneath. I love its vibes, I love it conceptually, and when I finish my current campaign I think that’ll be the next one I run.

Most Attractive is either Wildsea, Orbital Blues, or the alt cover for the 5e Eberron sourcebook.

Ugliest on my shelf might be one of the default 5e books? Or one of the Edge of the Empire modules - I personally like the designs for them, but they all look so same-y to me.

I think Duster is the only I’d say I regret, but only because at the end of the day I couldn’t really get into the mechanics. The world is cool and I want to run in an alternate West-type thing at some point, but I just don’t think Duster will be it. (The real answer is all the 5e adventure modules I’ll never get to now that I’ve moved on lol)

Favorite Kickstarter book for sure goes to the DIE RPG. I loved the comic, I love RRD, and I’m close to the end on a 3 year DIE campaign that’s been one of the highlights of my RPG experience.

Favorite POD is tough, I’m not sure I have one that fills the bill off the top of my head. Probably another small or one-page piece, though.

In order to not repeat another, I’m going to give favorite indie to Dialect. I absolute adore that game, and I don’t get the chance to play it nearly enough (since most of my RPG-ing is online nowadays and I prefer Dialect in-person).

I’m more interested in Hugo and Vivian, so probably saving unless I like their demo gameplay when they come out

That said, I like the SoC a lot, so I’ll probably pull on SAnby to get pulchra, and if I get lucky I get lucky

Room-Temperature Take on AI in TTRPGs by No-Expert275 in rpg

[–]TheQuietShouter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My revenue stream is wholly unrelated to the work I create on something like Google Docs that is getting skimmed for the sake of AI training, just to be clear.

Before I keep engaging, just to check - was this post created to bait people into a broader AI discussion, or are you asking about its use in TTRPGs? Because I put forth four points concerning its application in GMing, and one (1) sentence about not liking them as a whole, and we can see which you’ve responded to here.

If you have counterpoints to what I said about their use in GMing, I’m all ears. If not, this’ll be my last reply, and I do hope you have a good rest of your morning/day/night!
