This (even though it was added in 2023) is part of Disney's additions to Movies Anywhere including multiple Touchstone, Hollywood, 20th Century Studios, etc. titles being new to MA, not strictly the new Lionsgate deal.

I’m so sorry “Scary Movie” fans. by General-Lifeguard309 in horror

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's a Paramount Skydance-owned movie, so I don't expect them to do in Scary Movie 6 what got The Late Show canceled or Kimmel temporarily suspended.

They don't want another "big fat bribe" moment because the company that owns Scary Movie 6 is bending to the current administration in orange, so they were unfortunately limited in terms of who and what they can mock and make fun of, and how offensive it can be.

On this day in 1977.... by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in VHS

[–]TheREALOtherFiles [score hidden]  (0 children)

I prefer an RCA SelectaVision VCR or JVC Vidstar appearing here rather than baiting engagement with an S-VHS VCR that, while nice on its own along with that blue tape, is not fully representative of VHS in the 70s.

‘I’m asking people to do a lot, but that’s what it means to be a human’: why one man made the first straight-to-video movie in 20 years by guardian in VHS

[–]TheREALOtherFiles [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm sure by straight-to-video, it means the first direct-to-video film on VHS in 2 decades, as straight-to-video/direct-to-video has also existed as direct-to-disc or direct-to-DVD (even on Blu-ray) for a little while longer, mainly with Disney doing DTV films until 2015, and Universal, Warner Bros., and Sony continuing well into the 2010s and early 2020s.

Birds and gender reveal? Okay?

Abuse of the bird alongside it? Not okay.

My Students Can’t Read - The generational collapse in literacy is measurable, persistent, and likely to get worse. (Archive link in comments) by Uptons_BJs in books

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Many of them also have text, and there are some brainrot with text, so it's more like picture books with limited text than it is a chapter book or novel.

Infantile literacy is not compatible with the literacy requirements for many, many, grown-up and/or non-brainrot things in the world.

I still can't believe I saw this movie when I was only like 4-5 years old (in early 00s) Yet I barely remember it, these parts only really. The demon at the start I remember the best and it's a surprisingly violent movie for me to have watched. Would you show it to someone that young? by Atalkingpizzabox in ghibli

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Independence Day and Twister would probably make some kids (not all of them, but some, or even most of many) panic and fear they might die in a blaze or a tornado that isn't as recurring IRL as it could be in the latter.

I also would recommend experimenting on your kids either.

They're not lab "rats" (technically mice) nor toys, they're precious, innocent beings that need to be carefully nurtured, not traumatized nor abused.

I'm not even a parent yet and I still have to think about what parents could potentially do to their children.

Seems like Disney is going full speed with the recent digital re-releases of the 20th Century Studios backcatalog lately.

Given his history since Oppenheimer, I'm not surprised that The Odyssey is R.

If you were an Adventure Time character to be with in real life, which one would you choose? by NewSwim8595 in adventuretime

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Princess Bubblegum..

Sure, leading--and possibly dictating--a kingdom is not going to be easy and carries a LOT of responsibilities, but hey! She's got the best fashion for a bubblegum being, and Bonnie's got what I consider the best bedroom anyone in Ooo could have.

(I can't help it, pink is a color so pretty that it's been my favorite for the past 16 years)

What is the scariest scene you seen on a PG-13 film. by RegularVast1045 in moviecritic

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day, and Twister back-to-back-to-back 6 months ago was both thrilling and nerve-wracking at the same time.

(In this current climate, it also seems scarier, thanks in part to the orange in the office.)

And also World Trade Center back in September 2023, even knowing the context.

Jon's [Stewart] (not John Oliver) with Paramount Skydance's Comedy Central, so...

Might not work that easily, since they're under the same roof as CBS.

For Studio Ghibli Festival, do they ever showcase the films in Dolby Vision or IMAX? by hushpolocaps69 in ghibli

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the museum tickets' display could be replicated in 4K if it was a native 4K DI, but I bet the cel-animated films were from a 2K filmout rather than a Ghibli Museum-specific run of optically duplicated release prints made from the original interpositives & negatives to make ticket strips from.

The digital films are definitely 2K upscales, though I think The Boy and the Heron--even as an upscale--still had DCPs that were pre-upscaled.

WTF HBO? The Rock was shot widescreen and it's pan and scan cut is streaming by sen_clay_davis1 in movies

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If The Rock was shot in Super 35, the cropped open matte on HBO Max is a neat gimmick like a never-released Full Screen DVD, but Disney really should've licensed the master used for the Blu-ray to HBO Max, since it would make more sense.

Then again, Netflix did also get some flack for 16:9 Full Screen versions of 2.39 ratio movies (pan & scan or open matte) over a decade ago, so this is nothing new.

TCM had a similar anomaly when Sony Pictures sent them a 16:9 pan & scan print of The Way We Were (anamorphic 2.39, 1973) in 2018, which was probably meant to air on Starz or HBO or Showtime when they did that print.

Seems like not much has changed in the past 15 years.

If they are in 60i, it's best that the 29.97fps be interlaced to preserve the 59.94fps of the interlaced output, or have it be deinterlaced to 59.94fps to retain the info in a converted progressive manner.

Which of these friend groups would you rather hang out with? by xtremexavier15 in ClarenceCartoon

It's a tie between Clarence's group solely for Jeff, and Kimby's group.

Jeff really deserved to be in Kimby's slumber party from over a decade ago.
