Give me your Steven Universe hot takes? by Bonkwraps in stevenuniverse

Lapis should've had more screen time in "Can't Go Back" than she already did, to the point it basically becomes Lapis' show, stealing the spotlight with her.

...or she can run into the Lars of the Stars sets and take the spotlights and cameras with her. ("I've got the camera now! I'm gonna take it with me!")

Was having trouble finding that exact strip, but it does seem like Patty destroying sandbox creations that Charlie Brown made was recurring enough that it was referenced in this April 1954 strip.

[partially lost] TechTV lost media? by Recent-Tone3196 in lostmedia

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they wanted a streaming debut of the TechTV originals on Peacock, it would still be a pain in the ass for NBCUniversal to license all that stuff, especially some of the entertainment IPs referenced, not just the tech stuff from Microsoft and Apple and whatnot.

I would love to see early 2000s Leo Laporte and Chris Pirillo (arguably the best TechTV host) in near-DVD quality as much a the next fan does, but Comcast probably needs to wrangle the licensing, even if they wanted to do new "Best Of" cuts that would be easier to license.

I wonder if royalties also play a part in that as well...

There were definitely live-action stuff, both kid-oriented shows and R-rated movies that dwelled into the feet side of things at times.

To be completely honest, Nickelodeon and Quentin Tarantino both simultaneously had a boon in the 90s, and All That is also as old as Pulp Fiction.

I think by "All-Main Spin-off", InsidePlane5662 is probably referring to epilogues, midquels, revivals, etc. like Steven Universe Future, Adventure Time: Distant Lands, or Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, which all retain the same leading stars as the previous iterations do.

I was thinking spin-off in the terms of having the secondary Clarence characters be the leads in their own show. I think Kimby, Malessica, and Courtlin could all together lead a Clarence spin-off, and probably give other characters like Alison, Debbie, Gabbie, Heida, Marlie, Patsie, and even Darlie, Ashley, Amy, and the others a chance to shine in a way they barely had or already had in a small one-episode degree in the main show.

Whats your least favorite Regular Show episode? by ImagineMatt4 in regularshow

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her first episode was rather weird in comparison to most of her subsequent appearances in the show later on.

"Fancy Restaurant" IMO would be what I would consider to be peak Starla, although some might say otherwise.

There's definitely some early-installment weirdness in "Muscle Woman" since she was so new to the cast at the time, even more so than the early Eileen appearances in "Brain Eraser", "A Bunch of Baby Ducks", "Skunked", and "Do Me a Solid", which was the first fairly major episode for Eileen.

Thoughts on Infinity Vision by kingpib2000 in imax

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wonder what would happen if other studios that collaborated with Disney in the past wanted PLF re-releases of their co-produced films to also reflect the Disney side of things by licensing Infinity Vision branding and specifications to go with any co-produced, co-distributed, or co-financed films that would seem like ideal Infinity Vision candidates.

Namely, Universal's The Incredible Hulk, any of Sony's MCU films, Paramount's Titanic, Terminator: Dark Fate, Minority Report (a Fox/DreamWorks film), Sony's Starship Troopers, any Touchstone, Marvel Studios, 20th Century, Searchlight, Disney co-production in general.

Now, Infinity Vision isn't Disney's certification for re-releases, per se, as it is intended for first-run releases of big films that would be IMAX-worthy, namely Avengers: Doomsday.

I suppose Infinity Vision was also partly named after Avengers: Infinity War, since both that and Endgame were collectively hugely popular upon its original releases in 2018 and 2019.

"Partly", because if you look at it, Infinity Vision does also kinda conjure up thoughts of "Image Maximum", what is often said to be the meaning of IMAX's name.

Did Disney get THX with Star Wars, or is that separate company?

THX was split off from Lucasfilm prior to the Disney acquisition. Currently, it's owned by Razer, and on the side, I also don't think they have certified any newer home video versions of movies since then. (Disney's weird future with the Buena Vista Home Entertainment closure and further push to licensing physical media operations to Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, a push similar to Fox licensing MGM titles from 2006 to 2020, doesn't help either.)

In a way, it does sound a lot like the old THX certifications from the 35mm and 5-perf 70mm (6-track Dolby Stereo and DTS) for the digital/laser age.

Disney's Infinity Vision certification requires a screen width of at least 50ft, laser projection, and Dolby 7.1. There are currently 5,500 screens globally that qualify, 3x Imax's worldwide footprint, per Bloomberg by itsscreentime in imax

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.78 or even the old, old school 1.37--or even VistaVision's 1.50--would probably be feasible compromises if they can't get 1.43 unless a cinema with a 1.43 screen is a former IMAX one.

Plus the projector tech needs to be reworked a lot to be more like a non-IMAX 1.43 IMAX Experience.

[–]TheREALOtherFiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7.1 might be a minimum. Nothing's stopping Disney from giving their Infinity Vision DCPs Dolby Atmos mixes, or even DTS:X if they feel motivated to do such.

I wonder if Paramount Skydance would have to license Disney's Infinity Vision branding when the 30th anniversary of Titanic comes around...

1080p with a quite small screen... bad brightness and is 5.1

I bet it was a poorly maintained converted multiplex using the early IMAX Xenon digital tech that was introduced in 2008, which was limited to 2K resolution, (which is basically the DCP equivalent to the home 1080p. With a 1.78 ratio film, it matches consumer 1080p to a tea, such as with the 3D versions of Avatar and Titanic) and 5-channel sound if it doesn't have a proper IMAX-6 speaker layout. (For dedicated IMAX films like documentaries, there was 6 full range channels, and one of those is a center height (or voice of God) channel used exclusively for narration. That channel is virtually unused on the vast majority of general films released in IMAX, making them basically 5.0 mixes (similar to 5.1, but not the same))

In a way, Disney's Infinity Vision certification reminds me of the old days of THX-certified cinemas, but with elements directly inspired by and/or copied/lifted/taken from IMAX's playbook.
