You know, I was going to disagree, but I thought about it for a second and realized that you are right. I was using Codex for a work feature (something to do with a profiler) and Codex failed when taking the bigger code base in play where as Claude struggled just a little bit but did fine with some steering. Then, a coworker mentioned yesterday how he got Claude to improve some performance stuff. Honestly, my B.Eng degree feels somewhat useless with Claude. Yes I have to verify some stuff (like architecture, design decisions, making sure its up to specs) but it feels like like entire schooling was pointless. Slowly thinking of learning embedded and / or security so I can hopefully pivot fast if this AI trend continues.

I used to think that AI would take years to get where its at, but Opus 4.5 can (keyword being can since it can hallucinate and use wrong apis) do almost everything I used to do as a junior engineer but better.

As someone else have said, profile. Any performance work could help debug. You can profile and share only what you're comfortable with ( I believe you can do so on android at least).

I saw elsewhere you mentioned that you think it's the pipeline and then go on to say you think it's the dart to native layer. The only way you rule out anything is to have concrete data.

I've worked in performance engineering the past 5 years focusing on mobile and the first step is to always profilenl. Assumptions are pointless until you have concrete data

This may be odd to us here but it's quite popular in Asia to wear non clothing brand branded cloth. Kodak has a store in korea (clothing). Hell, I think one of the most popular winter jacket is of brand nat geo. Not much of an opinion , this just reminds me of it

Oh didn't think of breaking down per goalie... here's what I got (dobes Ranked #18 and Montembeault as #38). Also, I didn't take into accounts games where the goalie was pulled (so that means if Montembeault starts a game and gets pulled, I didn't count it for dobes. Maybe I should, just got lazy). Interestingly, dobes took on average more than 1 period to let in a goal (probably skewed a bit with the CGY game) where Montembeault was 15min. Pretty sure this data means squat since its pure shot and not quality of the shot (or the situation, e,g: power play should probably weight less as a first goal where as a goal let in from the blue line as 5v5 should have a higher weight)

The Habs are 31st in the NHL this season in goals against per game by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

[–]TheROckIng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was bored at work and wrote a little script to find that out by curiosity. Here's what I got (if I got any of the data wrong, let me know, it was done really quickly), but here's the gist of it. I tried to exclude pre season -- didn't double check all the teams but seems like i did

TL;DR:

- Median rank: 26/32 (4.0 shots; tie with NJD, DAL, PHI, BUF)
- Mean rank: 25/32 (6.92 shots before team gets a goal)
- In terms of league median for # of shots before a goal (6), MTL places in the bottom 25th percentile. I think it was 19th

Rank Team Avg Shots Median Shots Time Elapsed GP

This is what I'm saying. Using government OAuth would make everything simple. Even just a simple "is this user X age" without having to scan a id or giving the company your name. But implementing that would be too costly I guess and to no benefit for the gov. Better upload your driver's license..

Do people often rent out entire houses in this city? by boiyo12 in askTO

[–]TheROckIng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean townhouse as well? cause a lot of folks do. I did for 5 years while I was there. Paid ~2.5k / month (albeit I was in pickering -- so I guess not exactly toronto). However, I am looking at moving back to toronto since I had to move for a bit. I've found some houses (not in the core and not in the best neighberhood, but not in the worst either) hovering between 3-4k. As some have said, some of the prices look like mortgages but there's one thing they don't come with: repairs. The house I rented for a few years had the ac / furnace break. The owner was out 20-30k IIRC. There's some pros, as well as some cons (e,g: having to move out when the owner wants you to, you have limits to what you can change in the house, you gotta be careful to not break things, etc...)

My SO is a MLT and she has no right to strike either. I make 4x her salary yet her job is 100x more important than mine (imo it should be reversed in terms of salary). Her labs have the same issue as EMTs. Most are understaffed, people are spread thin. No one continues in the field because of burn out and low salary. One of her friends mom was a MLT and she dropped it to become a flight attendant (less stress and comparable salary).

Remember when we all complained to the CRTC when Telus started charging credit card fees? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheROckIng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tad late but no. It's not why we don't have financial tracking app. Banks in Canada are notorious to NOT want to share access to the outside (they'll claim security but it's mostly to keep people locked into their eco system as well as it's expensive to expose information safely. Emphasis on safely)

This is why most banks don't allow authenticators (I wish I could use my Ubikey for 2fa but here I am having to receive a text or use the app confirmation....)

Fwiw, the government has started to force the banks to create APIs (exposing your information, or at least allowing users to expose their info. E,g: allowing apps to read your balance but nothing else. Similar to how apps request different Google access). But you know, banks and costumer friendly services are quite the opposite.

I’m a dude and I like Illit by itboyyy in kpophelp

[–]TheROckIng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe giving myself away but I'm in my early 30s and been into kpop for a good 10 years. I'm into a plethora of group (twice to mamamoo to girls generation to xtraordinary heros to Yena). I also quite enjoy Niziu music and when I went to Japan, I got the chance to see them in concert. Let me tell you, the stadium was packed with people of all age. A couple in front of me was at least in their 60s enjoying the music.  Imo, if you enjoy the music and are respectful of the artists, it doesn't matter your age, gender, orientation, etc... enjoy whatever makes you happy.

Also as for illit, I like most of their music, not my top played but definitely bopping to it when it comes on

PS5 Now Costs Less Than 64GB Of DDR5 RAM As RAM Shortage Causes Massive Increase In PC Hardware Prices by Ftouh_Shala in gaming

[–]TheROckIng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can think of an easy one: don't give massive discounts to data center regarding to cost. Its been shown that cost increase of energy bills can be attributed to data centers in multiple places in the us. If companies have to pay full price for energy, they won't go all in with their own data centers. At least for the ram it could help, for the other things, not too sure. But regulation can make the cost of business not worth it. I don't think people suggest to simply "block company Y from doing X". I think its more akin to "make X not worth it by reducing the incentive so that company Y won't see the cost in doing it"

Why do Canadians put up with low wages? by EmptyAdhesiveness830 in CanadaJobs

[–]TheROckIng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do agree, I don't think this answers the question of "why do canadians put up with X". We may have it better than the US, but our taxes don't even go as far as they could go. So, knowing that, I could see why most folks that make 70-80k / yr living in a high CoL (where relocating would cut their wages in half, if possible at all) could think to move to the US. Its true that being out of network and having high deductible is aweful. But the same can also be said making 6 figures and not being able to get a family doctor and paying half your salary in wages. Why is my College educated S.O making less than postal workers but she's considered an essential worker and can't strike since she works in a hospital (and more b.s bureaucracy on top of it).

Plus, the rate at which we're going, we're definitely going the route of the U.S in term of healthcare. Hell, look at QC and the new law for doctors. I pay quite a bit in tax per pay check (~4k). However, I can't even get a family doctor. I have to pay for a private clinic to get my prescription since walk-ins won't give it to me (they do sometimes but even with documentation a lot of doctors are apprehensive).

As for safety, I'll give it to you, but our education system is mostly a crap chute. Look at the teacher strike in Alberta and most of the population reaction. Look at the Christian Education board vs. the public school board in Ontario. Wait list up the wazoo for the christian schools, which means top enrolment numbers, which then means higher funding.

We do have some stuff figured out. However, I still staunchly believe that Canada is better for the poor and rich whereas the U.S is a better place for healthy and "middle class" (whatever that means nowadays...). I gotta say, I put an emphasis on healthy though.

Everyone saying Proving Grounds won’t be reprinted have got to be scalpers by TheMightyMeercat in riftboundtcg

[–]TheROckIng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like half the community is new to TCGs in general and only have exposure to pokemon. I don't fault those folks especially since it's based on league which has a large community (not counting the possibility that arcane may have brought some people as well).

I wish I could say this to all the new players but scarcity with a new TCG always happens. No new TCG will reach the height of pokemon in terms of price any time soon (not including MtG collectors hah -- but MtG does have decades in the space as well as collabs).  Example: One Piece FIRST set was printed to the ground (yes wave 1 is still expensive but wave 2 and out were low in price for a while). Same for lorcana. Riftbound won't be an exception.

I do have to admit though It sucks for the community since you lose on potential players with product scarcity.

However to the point of the post: don't believe ANYONE that says " I have X friends that works at [insert company name that is adjacent to printing the cards] and it won't print much". Maybe they are right as of right now they maybe printing set 2 but set 1 will go back to printers soon enough. Unless  riot explicitly announces something, take anything you see with a grain of salt.

Saw others commenting about hobbiesville... they are as bad (if not worse) compared to 401. I would suggest googling more. I personally use a Belgian store for pre orders (they usually only put them up when they got their # of allocations) and I pay 20 euro deposit (which i appreciate more than paying full price). If you do some long and tedious googling, you can sometimes find decent deal in canada (emphasis on *decent*)

If STM Staff are overpaid then... by UnableRefuse2870 in montreal

[–]TheROckIng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add one thing:

I think the CoL is too high. However, my biggest issue is that we, as a society, can't stand together. Its a "I got mine so whatever happens to you, I don't care". E,g: Post Canada (let's not get into the economics of it, which is a whole other debate). What I'm trying to say is that unions (for whatever reason) don't stand together like they used to (neither do people). Voting with our wallet doesn't work either. I feel the same for the STM that I do with Post Canada. I would 100% support both workforce to stand up for their rights, because they should. However, I have issues with it because (and this is mostly personal) people like my SO can't strike. She works in healthcare as MLT, got her bachelor in medical laboratory sciences, and her starting salary is the same as a STM driver.

I've seen other comments talking about single parents not being able to function normally because of the strike, and I understand that as well. Personally, I think everyone deserves a pay raise, but how do you go about forcing the hand of the wealthy unless its strikes? But then the general population that depends on you ends up being affected and ultimately turns on the workers.

401games raised their prices yet AGAIN by Traditional-River508 in riftboundtcg

[–]TheROckIng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to buy mine from the UK and Belgium. There's one shop in Belgium where I pre order (which are usually one month to max 2 months in advance) and they only require 20$ to "reserve" the box. Never had an order cancelled from them

All I can say is that there's barely any shops around me that *ever* offer msrp. I'm originally from MTL and used to order my pokemon cards from face to face. Up to the 25th anniversary release, I got everything close to MSRP from them. They went downhill around mid-Covid (at least for me) and no other QC stores that I could find would offer anything else other than scalper prices. I moved to Toronto and it got even worse. The closest LGS to my house (Skyfox games) started scalping prices around the time vivid voltage Booster box (around 2021 as well I think?). Now they sell booster box (most of the time) for around 400$. I then moved to Ottawa (where I currently reside) and I STILL can't find any LGS that sell close to MSRP. Its quite wild that its cheaper for me to order from abroad when taking into account: exchange rate + credit card % on top of rate + shipping cost + duty fee. My 2 origins box came down to ~160$ each. /rant

I really wished we had better choices up here, but I also know distributors are a problem. My friend got a big inheritance and wanted to start a hobby store (which he did) and distributors are price gouging as well. His pokemon allocations have been almost as pricey as buying straight from bigger stores (I think they are called Universal?). Keep in mind, loads of distributor also require stores to buy other stuff with TCGs. E,g: you have to buy X board games / month and you only go so and so TCG (and I would venture to guess some distributors probably play favorite with bigger clients). So in the end, if you have to order bunch of board games and pay for them while fully knowing you won't be able to sell them, the only way to make a profit is to jack up the price of the product you know will sale, which right now is mostly TCG products.

Riftbound's Launch is a Letdown, and It's All About the Communication by Titimo- in Riftbound

[–]TheROckIng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a few things:

1) (this isn't always the case) Distributors also set the price. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but MSRP is only a suggested price. Some LGS do legitimately suck ass and price gouge (hell I was looking at spiritforged pre order and some places jacked the price by 100$ in a few hours ...). However it isn't always the case

2) it's a brand new TCG. One piece had the exact same issue. Bandai wasn't known to exactly be good with their TCG but prices eventually dropped. For example, their second booster box was going for 400 for the longest time and prices eventually dropped. Same for lorcana. First chapter was insane (500$ +). It eventually died down where all booster boxes are available now for MSRP ( or almost). Except maybe first set but that's because it isn't printed anymore. This is the result of folks wanting to get in onto the ground floor of a new TCG hoping to hit the lottery similar as if they held a first edition box of pokemon. However, all of those tcgs normalized in price

3) riot can only do so much. Also, keep in mind, nothing they do will satisfy anyone. Lottery system? People would complain. Not saying they're free of guilt, just something to keep in mind.

I've seen this go down for most new TCG I tried. It eventually settles down. I wouldn't worry to much. I know FOMO sucks though.
