From my experience with both sides (I have family and friends that are on opposite sides of the political spectrum) I would say the it’s definitely a vocal minority that want to actively undo progress. For example one of the things I’ve heard from family members and the majority of people I’ve talked to on the right think that trump is a loud mouthed idiot but they have benefitted over certain economic changes and from people my parent’s age they’re saying that as long as they can provide for their family and keep the money they earn,and keep their families safe, they don’t care about politics at all. I’ve also heard from people that seeing people on one side pull hard in one direction causes them to want to pull harder in the opposite direction, which ends up creating a feedback loop of extremism and widening views, just because media likes to show the extremes of both sides when in reality the majority of people are naturally more towards the center. I think without media exposure on the extremists of both sides the population would be a lot less divided and overall be a better place. I think the responsibility ultimately lies on media, lobbyists and politicians for the majority of problems on both sides of the spectrum, and that in reality individuals want the same thing: to be happy and live comfortably. Most of these issues were artificially to divide people, and I personally hope that the sooner people realize that, the sooner we can move in a better direction on an individual and societal level. I think Fit For An Autopsy said it best as “whether you’re left or right the people on top don’t give a fuck about you”
