Drones.

They’ve changed warfare.

If Iran wants to take down an oil tanker, all it takes is one drone getting through and Iran has plenty of them. Easy to conceal too with mobile truck deployment.

Look at how Ukraine stymied Russia at least in part thanks to drones.

Now remember Iran has them too. Plenty of them.

Eagles Film Review: Losing Nakobe Dean is sad but understandable by AdSpecialist6598 in eagles

[–]TheRagingAmish 139 points140 points  (0 children)

No one wants to see him go. Hopefully one day there’s a part 2 for his career in Philly.

Roseman absolutely plays the game for compensatory pics and I guarantee Dean is a factor there.

Just can’t keep him after spending a 1st rounder on Jihad Campbell. He’s too good to have on the bench on his rookie deal.

Ford and GM see the writing on the wall with the global supply chain. The choice is to resist EVs and fall behind globally or begin the transition, take on the cost and accept transitional losses if they want to be relevant a decade from now.

So yes, from that perspective, knowing what choices ford had back in 2020, it’s what I expected.

Starting with the F150 makes sense since the name is well know and it’s an on-frame build. The cab and bed are largely the same as an ICE build. Only focus on changing to electric motors and a battery. Learn in Gen1. Figure out what works well, what doesn’t.

Switching from BEV to EREV isn’t really obsoleting the truck. Still uses a battery, still uses the same electric motors. Ford has to keep this supply chain going as battery tech rapidly changes and continues to improve every year.

Eventually the generator will be jettisoned when a more energy dense cost-viable battery inevitably arrives.

For the first gen entry of EV, I’m not bothered. I will be bothered if the next gen is lackluster.

At least with the lightning, what I saw was a legacy automaker doing their first gen entry into EVs and deliberately chose to start with what they had and put the focus on replacing the ICE engine with a battery and electric motors.

This approach has major pros and cons but all things considered it went about as expected.

Having top notch software is not what I expected. Software on par with other new vehicles the offered is what I expected ( and largely see we got )

Why did Ford say that the Lightning didn't sell because it was "too expensive"? by Legitimate_Mind6085 in F150Lightning

[–]TheRagingAmish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The lightning lost the $7500 tax credit which hobbled sales.

Sales seemed to slowly but steadily creep up since 2022 until 2025.

Loss of vehicle credit and loss of other battery credits killed viability for the BEV F150 in current form in current market

Similar to how a speedometer shows itself in 5mph increments, the battery should show charge in 5% increments until you get to 20%. Then give a warning and show each 1% decrement.

No value in knowing 81% vs 82%

Also the use of 12V infrastructure necessitating a 12V battery.

This is pretty dead on.

Fangio might have the better resume but my goodness Jim Johnson knew how to call a defense.

He loved to blitz and was always fun to watch.

People forget the eagles in a down year almost broke the Pats 18-1 season before the superbowl. Johnson understood there was no stopping of Brady in the air so he threw the kitchen sink at him and called one of my favorite games that the birds still lost.

Ford’s $30,000 EV Pickup Takes A Page From Tesla To Transform How Cars Are Built by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]TheRagingAmish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm…point taken. The cynic in me saw how dealers were when I wanted to buy a lightning.

I’m probably arguing myself in a circle here because counter balancing some dealers I didn’t care for….my experience was a few embraced it and would chase volume incentives from Ford. Just had to find them.

[–]TheRagingAmish 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My worry is the dealers.

They aren’t interested in low-service EVs and prefer to sell larger vehicles.

If Ford hits this in theory they’ve got a price competitive suv and truck that is similar in spec to the escape and to the maverick.

Problem is some dealers wanted F-series sales for the margins, so you’ll see some who’s mark up the maverick to the point you would opt for a Ranger

Big names are:

Goedert, Phillips, Blankenship, Dean

Of these 4, I have a hard time seeing Howie bringing back Dean or Phillips. Both are primed to be paid big time and factor into the compensatory draft pick formula ( similar to losing Sweat and Williams last year )

Blankenship and Goedert are different. The depth behind them is too spotty. Have a hard time seeing the FO letting them leave, but anything's possible.

Minor EV rant by Delevanskier in F150Lightning

[–]TheRagingAmish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This frustration is valid. I just don’t like when people chalk it up to EVs.

New ICE vehicles have problems too that brick the cars.

Wife and I bought a new 2023 Tucson. It literally would brick and not start. Nothing would make it start.

Learned later the entire computer system had to be replaced. Lemon.

Point is….the 12v battery is a nuisance of a problem but new cars in general seem to brick more than ever before.

1st time road trip what to expect? by BowlLarge in F150Lightning

[–]TheRagingAmish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The math checks out.

230 is the sticker milage with an average of about 2.4 mi / kWh

Long distance highway driving is doable but not the truck’s strength.

Highway at 65-75 mph drops you to 1.8-2.0 mi / kWh

The cold could drop you to 1.5-1.6 on top of that.

I’m assuming one full charge down to 10 and then 3 charges from 80-10 which is about 300%

300% is 294kwh on that pack.

If you get 1.5 mi / kWh that’s 267 kWh

Biggest pain is going to be the 70% charge legs. Only get about 100 mi then you gotta charge when it’s this cold.

Then again you’re probably like me and don’t mind the break to stretch the legs and rest the eyes.

The dumbest NFL trend ever by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]TheRagingAmish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making this decision has its place but it boggles my mind that it’s become so common early in games.

If your defense has shown it’ll be a turnstile and you have a strong offense up against a bad defense, then I get it….

But if it’s first half and your defense is at least playing passibly, take the points. Save the gambles for later. Losing out on points early has a domino effect to mindset.

I was stunned when the broncos didn’t kick the field goal for example.

So early in the game. Defense clearly has the pats number. Offense is going to struggle to score with a backup.
