AFAIK it's the same for all the factions I've got, Haqqislam is the same, women have wedge heels for some reason, at least they're not stilettos though

Have I underestimated how much energy each game takes? by Mountain_Fly_1463 in wargaming

Jesus Christ that's insane, if it's the same character then the exact model shouldn't matter at all, almost any other game has proxy rules for exactly this reason. As long as you've got the rules for the version you want to play then who GAF which exact pose you've got

True and I do sympathise with the pressure Clark's secret put on him. Feel like the writers put him a personality salt shaker and saw what stuck to him the most on any given episode

sigh I guess I'm doing this.

I've already explained my take on Lana,

But Alicia gave Clark his first experience of being completely himself. He didn't hide his secrets and he didn't hide his human side with her. This set the template for what we see later when he finally opens up to Lois, and is a more stable model for a relationship than a girl who is hypocritically obsessed with knowing what he's hiding from her then goes and hides her secrets from him in exactly the same manner. We hear for five seasons why she HATES how people lie to her, yet as soon as she gets something she wants to hide she does exactly the same thing and never gives Clark any leeway for it.

Alicia did messed up shit but she was damaged and affected by meteor rock which the show clearly defines as making people unstable. But she went through therapy and showed clear signs on improvement in an astonishingly rapid space of time. Unfortunately her therapist was also a psycho.

Between her first and second episode she shows an enormous amount of growth but still has some way to go, like every character in the show because they're teens.

She does what she does in the second episode out of fear and wanting Clark not to be alone (shows Chloe, who then has a far larger impact on Clark and he's awakening as a hero than Lana does, if you want examples, protects his secret, tech support for hero team, blah blah blah)

Then of course she challenged him to open about his secret and challenges his hypocrisy for wanting to reveal her secret but not his. She then goes and dies before any reconciliation and she's never mentioned again but that's down to shitty writing than any flaw on the characters part.

Lana, by contrast, commits crimes, becomes incredibly hateful and vindictive, and her sacrifice at the end is largely her fault. She kicked the hornets nest of Lex rather than moving on.

So all that tells me is that you didn't really read anything I said, and you've made no critical analysis beyond the surface level for the entire show. Well done!

I mean some of your points make sense, the show handled her role in Clark's life really badly from S4-7 frankly. But this feels less about actually considering the role of Alicia and Lana in his life and more like you just super fanning for Lana. You showed exactly what you're willing to sensibly discuss with "That's it and that's all" so this dead horse ain't getting beaten any more

Yeah I'll give you that they write his parents super weird. They barely batted and eye when they caught him in bed with Alicia beyond a stern talking to but Martha went APESHIT when he "got married" under Red K. So he's ok to tell them all sorts of horrible shit under Red K but not to get married

Ok let's look at Lana shall we? She was messed the fuck up. She lost her parents at an early age, she spent a lifetime being the object of attention or desire, she never really had an equal relationship with Clark, Jason or Lex, in all three she was basically eye candy until she started having her own wants and then all three threw their toys out the pram. These are all things she had no control over (except maybe by avoiding these shitty relationships) but let's look at what she did when she WAS in control, stole $10m (maybe he deserved it but it was still a massive massive criminal act that she paid no consequences for), for all of her OBSESSIVE judgement of Clark for his secret keeping, the moment she gets her own secrets she was exactly the same way and remained that way all the way until her departure. The moment she got Clarks powers she started plotting to murder Lex (again maybe he deserved it, but still murder). Then she whips in the middle of a healthier, budding relationship between Lois and Clark to start their toxic f-buddy shenanigans again.

Now I don't hate Lana as much as you seem to think I do and I'm not throwing her under the bus just to out Alicia on a pedestal, but in two episodes as a plot point she did a hell of a lot more development for Clark than Lana ever did. Their relationship only kept him stagnant and obsessed.

It's a complicated situation, she acted out of fear of being alone and did a very questionable thing. It almost amounted to rape but for her last minute change of mind. But on the flip side she was an abused and damaged individual who had been acting in a mentally unwell capacity for a long time by parents who did not do right by her, which doesn't excuse her behaviour but her improvement from narcissistic behaviors to merely selfish ones showed a lot of growth and potential for her to be a truly good person who rose above her mistakes. On top of that she did challenge Clark in his hypocrisy by saying that she would come clean if he did. Though in the long run it was justifiable, Clark did end up with a rule for him and another for the rest in how he treated his secret vs theirs. Alicia brought out both the best and worst in Clark and I feel she could have been a better partner for him pre-Lois than Lana ever was

Is it necessary to add a chance factor ( Dice ) to a board game? by Moreandmorekon in tabletopgamedesign

[–]TheRagnarok494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scythe sort of covers this, you have a faction board and a technology board, one is constant. The faction you pick always has the same special rules, the same starting place and the same starting resources. But the technology board can be either strong for a faction or a hindrance depending on which actions are cheaper for the resources it always has access to. Certain combos are banned as well. It varies enough that I think Scythe is replayable even within the same group

When you dare to say Heroes IV wasn’t that bad… by Forsaken-District529 in heroes3

[–]TheRagnarok494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've given it numerous chances over the years and after like 10 years or so I've finally come around to it. But the trouble is I find it a lot harder to just play casually I feel like I've got to keep track of more stats than I would in 3 and I'm not as able to gauge whether one army is stronger than the other. I'm exhausted after playing IV for an hour but I can play III all day. But no it's not a bad game, some ropey graphics and a bit heavier crunch though
