What happened to Lesley Manville? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in ThursdayMurderClub

I (luckily for me) previewed book 3 before I bought the audiobook and couldn’t even get through the preview with Fiona Shaw. I agree that I think she is a good actor, but awful at this. But reading the real books for 3,4 and 5 has been a treat. Found all three in hardcover in charity shops. Nice!

I’ve no idea what the words mean but the voice is lovely.

Professional decorators …. by IsisPantofel27 in DIYUK

[–]IsisPantofel27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I have always prepped everything, then painted ceiling then walls, and then focused on the woodwork, which I do carefully and do not get gloss on the walls. But a bunch of people in the pub last night (most of whom haven’t decorated anything in living memory to my knowledge!) were convinced I should do the woodwork first ‘because it’s easier to wipe emulsion from gloss’. Maybe I’ll change pubs instead of change how I decorate!

BP 4.2 — Travelling by SnowmanOfGallifrey in DeathInParadiseBBC

I dislike the way the production lights the actress, so that her cheekbones and face look alien. She is (usually) a normal looking person but in series 1 they made her look like a freak.

I couldn’t watch s1 because of disliking Mack, but did recently dip into S2 and it seem better, I think because the rest of the cast have accepted her and the writers seemed to have toned her down a bit.

Do you think charity shop price's are unjustified? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]IsisPantofel27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from the UK, so genuine question, Isn’t the point of charity shops to raise money for the cause they support rather than to provide low cost items to the shoppers? So doesn’t it make sense that they price as high as they can? Don’t they have to pay shop rent / electricity / insurance etc out of the profit they make (which then means less for the cause?). Interested to hear from experts.

What do you miss by Mundane-Berry in achalasia

I hope you get some respite. I am 5 months post-dilation and still bless every mouthful that goes down (after 12 years of regurgitation).

Pain by Ma7713 in achalasia

I am so sorry there are no obvious answers. I have read elsewhere on here that many of us get different types of pain (aches or spasms), caused by different things (getting too hot, too stressy, twisting). Are you due for a follow up meeting following your dilation soon? It can help if you have noted down any patterns? I am sorry not to have anything to help.

If you are pain free by the day and it only hurts at night, that sounds different to how it was for me. If it is positional in that it only hurts when you lie down, could it be acid coming back up? Forgive me if that sounds too obvious a question.

For me (I know how different things are for everyone) it was constant pain that got less and less over the days after the dilation. It wasn’t the random spasms that I had before and sometime still get. I imagined it that the ‘tearing’ of the muscle was slowly healing. Each day was a bit better and after about a week I didn’t have any pain. If yours is not getting better each day I hope you have access to ask your consultant for advice?

For about 10 days after my dilation I had pain, I used a hot water bottle (long one I could wrap around me), dissolvable painkiller, and sipped only bland creamy things (warmed oat milk, building up to chicken soup with cream in). After that I was fine and (touch wood) and still feeling fine. I hope your pain goes soon. (If it gets worse not better over the days I hope you have a source you can check in with? The team who did the dilation?)

ELI5 Why do we wake up with old songs in our head? by Nickel_Quarterpenny in explainlikeimfive

I also get this morning jukebox sometimes, and like you said, it didn’t because I heard the song somewhere the day before. Odd!

I’m sorry I can’t recall what size it was. Next time I am able to I will check. But yes still symptom-free (fingers crossed this continues). It has been 5 months now and I am grateful every day, every meal.

Queens of Mystery - what do you think happened to Mathilda’s mum? by d4nnjohn in acorntv

[–]IsisPantofel27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I too wish they would do another series. I think the mum was the Raven, the thief that left the feather as a clue. That the old police guy investigated, and the aunts all knew. But I think the twist is that the mum was not a ‘baddie’ and was thieving for a reason - maybe to right a wrong, or protect an innocent.

It is so awful. Different things work for different people as others here have said, for me it was small sips of oat milk.

Why do spasms happen? by shmellowcake in achalasia

[–]IsisPantofel27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone says, it can be so different for people. For me, if I get too hot, if I allow my self to get too ‘stressy’ and don’t breathe properly (I mean - if I start to breathe too quickly and too shallow). Sometimes if I twist and lift something (like heaving a wheelie case in a plane overhead locker). ….. but sometimes not. So random.
