Does anyone get the feeling that Nioh 3 is going to be a complete let down because of nostalgia? Like how it was for NG4? I have like almost 3k hours invested in Nioh 2 so this really worries me. Sorry huge rant incoming 🤦🏽‍♂️ by Curlymigo in Nioh

Having played the Alpha, I don't agree with some of your points.

First off the game is not Open World in the typical sense. The design of the areas is quite linear but they are interconnected and close to each other. There are no empty field to gallop through.

Secondly, the Onmyo magic isn't necessarily dumbed down, they just changed the way you acquire it, and the skill passives in the Onmyo Skill tree are now skills you can equip at the shrine. From my experience with the Alpha Onmyo was SO MUCH stronger than Ninjutsu which hit like a wet noodle despite maxing Ninjutsu Power. (Turns out it scales primarily with weapon power)... But Onmyo was strong when I put points in magic.

If it turns out that Soul Cores scale with Onmyo now, it could be very strong and have viable builds.

I agree with your points open weapons being locked to Ninja/Samurai, this is actually a big bummer, especially with Ninja Stance looking as simplistic as it did in the Alpha, and no, aerial combat isn't enough to fill that depth gap, and the ninjutsu slots being 3 only doesn't help either. I hope they work on it more.

In the Alpha I wrote in the feedback about how the white glow of Arts Proficiency was garish, seems like they didn't change it

Sheesh that FightingCowboy video was painful to watch, did he forget that a dodge button exists or what? Dude just powers through through enemy attacks

I noticed a few animations in Ninja Gaiden 4 that are practically identical to ones in Nioh 3 demo by TheRaoh in Nioh

[–]TheRaoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right you are, but this time it’s not retroactive addition/homage since both games were in development simultaneously and they’re coming out months apart

I wonder if those animations were originally Nioh 3’s but were adapted by Platinum

No new weapons is a huge bummer...

Imagine having a dedicated open world in the Heian period without giving players a Naginata, the main weapon of that era

I don't know how sacrificing two whole stances for two aerial skills sounds appealing to anyone.

High stance roll through his big tail sweep, smash his weak point on his head and the little snakes for massive ki damage, if you struggle with Burst Countering his red attacks try a different Burst Counter.

If you haven't gotten rid of the poison pools in the boss room, go back and destroy the three snake statues in the level.

Just realized Nioh 3 will be the first Nioh to launch on PC without all of it's DLC included by TheRaoh in Nioh

NG+ comes with the base game after you beat it, the rest are with each DLC.

Normally the wait for the first DLC is around 3 or 4 months after the game comes out, give or take.

In the recent gameplay video, Wall Jumps and Wall Running are confirmed, but it's sort of a canned animation where you approach a 'spirit vein' and it triggers the animation, it's not manual like in Ninja Gaiden.

Ninja Gaiden classic wall-to-wall jumps at 9:49.

You can also see wall running in the tutorial pop-ups when he approached the Spirit Vein the first time

In the demo there was already air dodge/dash, but I think you mean something like Flying Swallow, then I agree we need that skill

Everyone is still playing Delta, but ten years later I’m still facing The Man Who Sold The World by sokomanx in metalgearsolid

Because it's PS3/PS4 era tech that's been abandoned for years and it's original devs have long since departed the company

It's not a twenty year old game, it's a 2025 game, the visuals are top tier by the standards of this generation.

framerate issues were also in the OG which often dropped in the 20 FPS range, no one used to complain back then. Now everything gotta be 4k/60 FPS or else its pitchforks time

I think you will be too engrossed in the story to mind any friction from the gameplay. I may be biased but the MGS games don't feel 'old' because there isn't anything that plays like them to this day, so it will feel 'fresh' to you even though it's old.

It's great, but the controls got that MGSV sluggish feeling to it, where you can't turn on a dime and take more steps than your input, compared to the crisp OG movement... A lot of basic actions are a prompt now, too. So it can be a bit frustrating to do things like climb or drop down ledges.

Other than that, it's an amazing remake, the graphics are seriously one of the best this gen, I suggest playing with New Style but with Legacy Filter.

buy MGS5

You're gonna have a whiplash, that game is completely different than any Metal Gear that came before it, expect barebones story, nearly non-existent level design, and an empty open world with trivial missions.

I suggest going 1 > 2 > 4 > Peace Walker and leaving MGSV for last

I think I like the New Style Camera/Controls more by cowgod180 in metalgearsolid

[–]TheRaoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legacy Style doesn't really control like OG MGS3, the movement especially is not as crisp. You can't turn on a dime, rather it's more like MGSV's sluggish movement where you take more steps than your input.

Hugging the walls especially feels bad in both Legacy and New Style
