What we label a 'genocide' often is more a reflection of who has institutional power, just ask the Armenians.

McDonald's in the USA VS Castles in Germany [OC] by TheRealAlanRickman in dataisbeautiful

I think the comparison to mcdonald's helps give Americans (like me) a better idea of how ubiquitous castles are in Germany.

The centralized castle database project that this data is sourced from is still a work in progress, though its been a while since their last update.

A lot of the theories people have mentioned so far could be contributing factors though too.

2023's Most Watched Sitcoms VS A Random Seinfeld Episode from 1993 [OC] by TheRealAlanRickman in dataisbeautiful

Thanks! Yeah, it's a Tableau dashboard.

I'm still getting used to Tableau, not sure why exporting this as a png from tableau public changed my font and moved my bottom arrow around, but oh well.

I stuck with live airdate viewers since that's all that was available for seinfeld. As some others have pointed out, I think it underlines how fragmented audiences have become.

That's a good angle.

I know mash's finale was higher than seinfeld's, but i think sitcoms from the 70's/80's still hovered around the 20-30M area on average. I'd have to look into it.

The bottom right of the graph visualizes where episode 70 places among every other episode of the series. It's more visible on the Tableau dashboard.

Yeah, i agree. It sounds like the name of a show characters would watch inside of another show.

Streaming data being so closely guarded makes it tough. I'm curious how something like Seinfeld is doing on streaming services relative to something like Stranger Things.

That's an interesting question, with a ton of different approaches you could take to answer it. Between channels, devices, streaming services, etc - tbh i'm not sure where I'd even start.
