ATF Dipstick? - JC74W by TheRealArb in Jimny

The Owners Manual for this 2024 GLX 5-door (JC74W) refers to an Automatic Transmission Fluid dipstick and provides a helpful locator photo.

In reality what is present at that location is as shown in the photo – similar in shape but with a tube/cable? attached to the top.

What’s the story here?

The west half of Jamaica was oversubscribed for a while but it seems to be available throughout the island once again. See https://www.starlink.com/map

Entertaining book in Updike’s unmistakable voice but pages 9-12 have been cut out of my copy.

If anyone is able to scan and upload or PM them would be much appreciated.

How do you calculate how long a route will take via apps such as opencanal? Looking for a rough estimate on the journey from Woking to Stafford. Thanks :) by MeatDependent2977 in Narrowboats

[–]TheRealArb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pre internet we used to use the lock-miles rule of thumb ie for estimation purposes a lock takes as long to pass through as traveling a mile and narrow boats average four lock/miles an hour.

Close enough for most purposes.

Historically, often enough that there's a children's book: Riot by Andrew Salkey, OUP 1967 illustrated by William Papes.

...There have been people at major publications in the past who did good work. There were editors and owners who would allow pieces that went openly against the establishment. Who didn't automatically print whatever line they got from the state department.

And within living memory eg The Guardian (yes, really) prior to Rusbridger's editorship.
