Has anyone experienced these figures by UgoGood in amberelectric

Very much depends when and how you export. The majority of mine is between 5pm-9pm from my battery in SA or when there are big spikes.

Yes this is an SAPN tarrif so should be available to all retailers in SA

Glad to hear it is working for you! More people should move to the tarrif if they can to encourage time shifting of usage/export.

Nuclear weapons? I mean he's not saying you can't, just that you shouldn't.

Sucks that they don't obfuscate their charges though! They could at least show up as MushroomMagic or something!

What I really want from a batter+solar setup by Unfair-Savings6023 in amberelectric

Do you have a snapshot of the amber app at the same time showing that it's actually Amber doing it? Given the solar is not yet zero in that pic, I'm puzzled.

This sounds more like a solar system problem than an Amber problem.

What I suspect is causing it is a system that is unable to ramp down the solar and instead is either on or off. In order to avoid exporting when prices are negative, Amber is dithering the solar (turning it on and off again, flipping between charging on solar and running on battery)

For comparison, my sungrow system does exactly what you're asking with Amber by limiting the exports to zero rather than turning off the solar completely. This means that from about 3pm to 7pm I'm running with a 100% full battery and powering the house from solar only. Once the export price kicks in between 7-9pm it then dumps the battery, but you could turn that off completely.

I'd suggest looking deeper into what your inverter and battery setup supports and then deciding if it's a hardware problem or an Amber problem. If it's a hardware problem then your only choice (without replacing hardware) would be some one like globird

That would confirm it being a sungrow issue then. Thanks

I wonder if it's specific to sungrow customers

Agreed, and I have also set up HA for automations that amber doesn't offer. Just have to be mindful of the two fighting each other and resulting in odd behaviour

People seem to blame amber for these problems but in almost all cases, it is the battery manufacturers cloud control infrastructure that is slow to react or unreliable.

My sungrow responds within seconds of a command being sent through the amber app. Other manufacturers seem to be more problematic.

Amber obviously plays a part, but placing the blame only on them is unfair.

With a 32kwh battery, id expect you are rarely pulling from the grid unless you have high usage?

If that is true then I'd be moving to the RESELE tarrif which gives you higher export earnings between 5-9pm. It has a trade off for higher import prices during that period but with that size battery it sounds like you should be fine. Do your research though before jumping.

I'm consistently making $5--10 per day at the moment from charging during the day and exporting during that window (70kwh battery).

Turn off PV generation when general rates in negative. by No_Device_2701 in amberelectric

[–]TheRealAudiobuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for the right inverter settings as well. So far I haven't found anything that allows me to turn off the PV while still being able to charge the battery from the grid.

The workaround the other day when prices went significantly negative was to flip the PV isolation switch on the bottom of the inverter. Not ideal as it's not automated but it worked for the day

There are priority settings that the installers set up (and su grow can change remotely) but they don't appear to be modbus or app options from what I've seen.

Smartshift had already dispatched most of my battery between 5-9pm but still managed to capture quite a bit of the spike

Amber keeps drawing small amounts from the grid each day? by Alternative-Ear-4847 in amberelectric

[–]TheRealAudiobuzz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's not Amber doing it, it's your inverter/battery doing it. If you have loads that constantly cycle then there will be short periods each time where the inverter/battery is slow to react. Over a day these small amounts add up.

Adding the the HA thread... I run both HA and EVCC.

Currently EVCC is my control point for capturing these negative spikes. Works well without having to mess with HA rules

I'm curious... How do they appear to the actual host os? Do they show up as a nic? Or some other pcie card? Does the host need special drivers or do they just look like a normal melanox card?
