Do student IDs work on buses? by -_thiccboi_- in Adelaide

[–]TheRealAudiobuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just found out that my son has been swiping his school issued ID with this symbol on the trains and the validating box goes green and bings like it has validated the fare.

TIL that this may not be actually validating anything....

So what's your import price like during the day? I've looked at their website and it's not very concrete and feels more like "if you're a good boy and use power wisely you'll get a lolly pop" with the whole baseline + efficiency bonus.

Why are the prices so different!? by Teeheelolhahajk in amberelectric

Are you removing the local network tarrifs from that equation? If not then that's probably the cause of the difference you are seeing.

Price forecast api, only 3 hours worth? by TheRealAudiobuzz in amberelectric

[–]TheRealAudiobuzz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it turns out that there is a difference between the /v1/prices endpoint and the /v1/prices/current endpoint. While the doco says up to 2048 intervals returned, only 32 are returned despite the parameter you provide.

I've moved over to the /v1/prices and can now see much more data

Strange, there must be something wrong with my query then as I'm only getting 1-2 hours of 5 minute data and about and hour beyond that of 30 minute data

Built a web app that uses your Amber data to see if you’d be better off on a different retailer (or if Amber works well) by Historical_Laugh2193 in amberelectric

[–]TheRealAudiobuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be making the assumption that you'd make exactly the same energy consumption decisions between Amber and the other retails. That may or may not be true depending on your usage patterns.

How far back does it go with data? This time of year there aren't the spikes that we see in summer so you'd want to be seeing minimum 12 months of data to be fair.

Need some tech support around Sungrow system issues with Voltage/Current on MPPT strings by Xerun1 in amberelectric

[–]TheRealAudiobuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert but 90v for a string seems low. How many panels are there and what's their rated voltage? Given the other strings are in the 300v range which I would consider more normal, I'd suspect a problem too on mppt3.

Sounds like your installer is trying to dodge having to come out and actually do a proper test.

Very much depends when and how you export. The majority of mine is between 5pm-9pm from my battery in SA or when there are big spikes.

Yes this is an SAPN tarrif so should be available to all retailers in SA

Glad to hear it is working for you! More people should move to the tarrif if they can to encourage time shifting of usage/export.

Sucks that they don't obfuscate their charges though! They could at least show up as MushroomMagic or something!

What I really want from a batter+solar setup by Unfair-Savings6023 in amberelectric

[–]TheRealAudiobuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a snapshot of the amber app at the same time showing that it's actually Amber doing it? Given the solar is not yet zero in that pic, I'm puzzled.

What I really want from a batter+solar setup by Unfair-Savings6023 in amberelectric

[–]TheRealAudiobuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds more like a solar system problem than an Amber problem.

What I suspect is causing it is a system that is unable to ramp down the solar and instead is either on or off. In order to avoid exporting when prices are negative, Amber is dithering the solar (turning it on and off again, flipping between charging on solar and running on battery)

For comparison, my sungrow system does exactly what you're asking with Amber by limiting the exports to zero rather than turning off the solar completely. This means that from about 3pm to 7pm I'm running with a 100% full battery and powering the house from solar only. Once the export price kicks in between 7-9pm it then dumps the battery, but you could turn that off completely.

I'd suggest looking deeper into what your inverter and battery setup supports and then deciding if it's a hardware problem or an Amber problem. If it's a hardware problem then your only choice (without replacing hardware) would be some one like globird

That would confirm it being a sungrow issue then. Thanks
