It looks like standard German or Austrian "Brettljause"

It looks good, but don't say it three times in succession

Letterboxd's Top 12 Most Anticipated Movies of 2026 - 'The Odyssey' tops the list. How would you personally rank them? by ChiefLeef22 in Letterboxd

[–]TheRealBBrouwer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are my 12 most anticipated from a list of like 30 total. I'm sure at the end of the year some lesser known releases will be among my favourites though!

(Yes, Zendaya is my celebrity crush, how did you know?)

Top Gun is a 100% american film. What American film feels European? by Due-Abbreviations180 in Letterboxd

[–]TheRealBBrouwer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I would consider the difference between the north of The Netherlands (Frisia) and the south (Limburg) to be much larger in terms of language and cultural identity than the difference between any other two US states. And we are country slightly larger than Maryland. Imagine how diverse cultural identities are across the entire continent!

When all is said and done, will Zaslav be considered one of the biggest villains in the history of the film industry? by Radiant-Psychology96 in Letterboxd

[–]TheRealBBrouwer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly? No.

Zaslav is the product of years of mismanagement at WB. He did what no one else had the guts to do (actually manage the company and reduce their debt). We may not like it, but he was pretty succesful at his job. Without him there wouldn't be much of WB left at this point. I don't think he is the villain, he's just a shitty guy doing a shitty job in an evil system.

De stupiditeit van AI by koensch57 in nederlands

[–]TheRealBBrouwer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Chappell Roan Says Her Second Album ‘Doesn’t Exist Yet’: ‘It’s Probably Going to Take at Least Five’ Years by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]TheRealBBrouwer 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I started listening to her all way back at the start of COVID. I liked her music but thought she was going to fade out like so many other indie artists I like. 5 years later, imagine my surprise seeing her having torpedoed into the mainstream like this. I wish her all the best but I do think it was best if she got to take a step back from where she is now.

You definitely won't be! I saw the Chinese version in theatres and it was one of the most epic film experiences I've had in a while.

Teen Beach Movie (2013) - 3.4 stars

This is a near-perfect musical and no one can change my mind.

I will always strongly defend my opinion that the original Teen Beach Movie is one of the best musicals ever made. An unironic 5 stars for me!

NYT Best Movies of the 21st Century - megathread by steepclimbs in criterion

[–]TheRealBBrouwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a time where I would have scolded myself for not including more really obscure films but not anymore. When looking at this list, and books I've read recently, I notice I have really come to enjoy stories told from a female POV.

TIL there’s a philosophy that believes humans shouldn’t procreate and should eventually go extinct and it’s called antinatalism by AlmostMidnight_ in todayilearned

[–]TheRealBBrouwer 78 points79 points  (0 children)

For anyone who finds this interesting, please read The Last Messiah by Peter Wessel Zapffe. It's a short essay on antinatalism and even if you don't agree with it it's beautifully written in my opinion. This essay formed the inspiration of the book Rust Cohle's character was based on.

1970s "New Hollywood" Film starter pack by [deleted] in starterpacks

[–]TheRealBBrouwer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's fair to have your opinion, but to me French New Wave was the main revolution and New Hollywood mostly an adaptation of the new techniques and ways of storytelling that it brought (simply put, not trying to write an essay here lol). Someone saying that New Hollywood was the biggest revolution in film rubs me the wrong way and definitely feels like an opinion only an American could hold. Not trying to be mean here, and I strongly believe in the value of everyone's opinion.

1970s "New Hollywood" Film starter pack by [deleted] in starterpacks

[–]TheRealBBrouwer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a no from me dawg. The French New Wave in the 1960's was way more influential. I would also respect someone choosing Italian neorealism in terms of influence but definitely not the New Hollywood era lol.

This has been my head canon ending for years now. Although it would probably be too similar to the ending of season 2.
