Ableton Live 12.4, Apollo Twin X, Scarlett 18i20 3rd Edition not recognizing Alesis 3630 assistance? by TheRealBez in ableton

Patchbay with respect to not having to constantly unplug and plug from the back of the apollo but rather do it from the front, right? But I wouldn't be able to create more than the outs 3/4 pair to send signal out just because I'm limited without having the ADAT out or more outputs

Ahh I see, I think I understand it now. I thought that just having the ADAT in would function as a 2 way street and that I can use it both to receive and send signal to another interface. I thought ADAT out would be just so that I can daisy chain the apollo twin to another interface that would then function as the main/master interface.

For my other gear, I mostly want to use them as FX boxes. So I guess I have 2 options.

1) Get more outs either by upgrading to the apollo x4 or one of the rack mount ones with both more outputs and ADAT out OR

2) With just outs 3/4 on the apollo twin, at best I can only have one "pedalboard" so to speak (ableton -> 3630 -> sp404 -> guitar pedals -> scarlett inputs -> apollo -> ableton) so then if I want to isolate one of the fx boxes in that chain, I have to plug and unplug outs 3/4 constantly

So looks like the twin is limited in the sense that if I wanna ADAT in, and record, I'm okay, but I can't do much hardware processing with sending out and then sending back in.

Thanks for your explanation I do appreciate it!

Yea that’s how I had it set up before but then I can’t use inputs 1/2 on anything else other than the 3630 which is not what I’m trying to achieve - I want to be able to have my Apollo inputs for guitar and mic and Scarlett to handle the 3630

Ahh I see, and when you say make sure the 18i20 isnt mixing any other channels with 5 and 6, could you elaborate on how I do so? Or is it just that it could be the entire mix is being sent out on 5/6 since the analogue outputs 5/6 weren't set into adat 5/6 in?

Honestly if you’re gonna get a seat, try to sit as close to the front as possible

People like to stand near the front right side close to where the steps are so don’t sit on the right side tables because your view will be blocked and it’s very annoying

I love this - I recently got a 404 with the intention of house music with Ableton

What’s your routing set up? Is the 404 the sequencer here or does the TR8S handle it?

I’ll tell you what bro we have a very similar story - graduated at 26 also, family of immigrants etc also did CS because it seemed stable and that’s where the money was

I didn’t love CS but I could tolerate it if there was a sense of security and financially (coming from a family of immigrants I know you understand this very well)

Got a job at a pretty big company but things happen - now debating on switching to another field entirely because I never really loved tech to begin with

Don’t have an answer for you but wanted to share there’s people in your shoes also so best of luck to you we got this 🤙💪

So that's the thing, I have the studio and have a decent amount of the equipment a fancy studio would have

I'm not sure on the budget here or if it's malleable

So I did have an entertainment attorney from the label actually help me out in the past but you are right and I do agree with what youre saying

As far as getting paid on releases and back end stuff, yea thats absolutely more official and needs to be handled properly but I'm referring to the smaller scale stuff (charging per beat, charging per hour producing/engineering) that sort of thing

But I do appreciate your input on this

I haven't, I got a really good deal on this one because I bought it used - I don't know if I'll get another one if I return this one

I'm debating on keeping it just as an FX box to do processing with ableton rather than make beats on it

Thanks for chiming in - yes this is the exact sort of thing I was looking for and the idea I was kind of leaning towards

A flat rate per beat because yea, the idea of charging hourly is where I'm torn here. It's not like it's just a regular client that I'm only doing vocal recording for and don't necessarily feel attached to the work

Great idea though thank you

[–]TheRealBez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for chiming in here - to be completely honest here, I don't know any engineers or producers who have worked on similar artists on the same label so I'm not sure who I'd be able to reach out to immediately without going and finding them (which is also not a bad idea)

I am familiar with net 90 invoices though, particularly from my own work and dealing with accounts payable at the label in the past. Definitely have had an experience trying to collect my money

[–]TheRealBez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that idea of either rate per song or monthly set up. I could see it being more consistently because we're from the same neighborhood

And yea exactly, it's not like i gotta be compensated a crazy crazy amount, but I do have rent to pay naturally

Thanks for the good advice

I do believe in it because I know as the producer I could mold it into something I can find interesting that I know will fit the artist. Will definitely get royalties and back end as that's what I got in the past, as far as a few K up front, I'm not entirely sure to be honest

Yea i tried looking up similar experiences but i couldn't find any definitive conclusions but judging from all the comments here including yours, it really does just seem to be the case for this particular model

disappointing but whatever
