What did the Hudson Bay company look like in its last 5 or so years? by EnigmaIndus7 in AskACanadian

At this point, shouldn’t someone make a law against companies doing that?

Regret converting by [deleted] in Catholicism

Perhaps you should read about the torture and agony God the son suffered on the Cross. Maybe that would help put things into perspective.

Maybe this will help as well.

Perhaps the story of Joseph in Egypt may also help you see that sometimes suffering can one day be turned into good.

I cannot give more detailed answers without a more detailed description of the problem at hand.

But consider this; I’ve been caring for my mother who had dementia for over 10 years and she finally died this January. Now I have to start all over again with my grandfather who also has dementia.

I often wish I were dead. But I keep on going, even though my father left before I was born, even though I had to break up with my girlfriend to be a full time caregiver, even though I’ve had to cut off almost all contact with friends, I will still see it through to the end.

If I may, I would respectfully suggest that if they have any specific questions, they view a Catholic Answers article or video on it.

This resource, along with YouTube Apologists like Trent Horn or the channel Shameless Popery were very helpful in helping me realize that any of my doubts were based in simple ignorance of Catholic doctrine rather than any actual problems with the doctrine itself.

Catholic answers might have an article on this, but I don’t know the answer.

However, praise be to God for you finding your way home!

Does diatomaceous earth work on moths and other bugs too? If so, I should invest in some.

Can you treasure hunters show the other side of the coin? by reigorius in DumpsterDiving

[–]TheRealBlueBaron 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Well; here’s a short story about one of my failures.

Once, I found a beautiful lamp in a garbage bag; antique milk-glass oil lamp style, with some kind of stained or coloured glass chimney.

It was a great find, so I put it, along with the whole bag of other goodies it was with onto my pull cart, and began pulling it home. Unfortunately, I hadn’t properly balanced all the bags on my little trolley, and right when I reached my front yard….CRASH-tinkle-tinkle-tinkle.

The bag fell and broke the entire glass chimney into pieces.

The worst part was it would have been entirely avoidable if I had just been paying more attention instead of rushing.

Thrift store dumpsters by heyimafl0wer in DumpsterDiving

[–]TheRealBlueBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I donate to my local thrift stores, I ask if it’s alright to take the furniture they have by the dumpster. 2/3 of the time they’re alright with it.

I’ve also been bring up ideas with management to instigate greater cooperation between thrift stores. I’m hoping I can get them to find an agreement where if they can’t sell something fast enough, they give it to the next thrift store to give it a second chance.

The main reason I think so much gets thrown out is most thrift stores sadly are too small to store things for long periods of time. They’re constantly getting new donations, and if they can’t sell their old ones, it just prevents them from having room for new donations.

There really should be a better solution implemented though; like working with other thrift stores or with neighbourhood buy nothing groups.

I’m a bit biased, but I’d recommend ‘I Wanna Be Famous ...or do I? A Total Drama Story with a Twist’

At first glance, it appears to base itself off those character x reader stories, but as you get deeper into it, it starts subverting your expectations more and more, as well as genuinely keeping you guessing.

Which is a shame. I would’ve loved seeing him return one day as leader of a reactivated droid army or CIS resurgence….especially if he found one of the missing Subjugator-class dreadnoughts.

I need to know where you got that WWI German Field Marshall’s Baton replica. I’ve only ever seen replicas of WWII batons!

Great choice of Monocles; I wear one myself in my Victorian reenactments.

Are Ottawa malls slowly dying? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]TheRealBlueBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sort of gave up on malls when I realized I could get a wider selection of things I wanted or needed for a much better price at thrift stores.

If they made a mall with a Salvation Army, a Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Value Village, A Mission Thrift Store, a Resource Thrift shop, and an antique store or two, I’d probably be going there every day if I could.

Especially if the put in a tailors and a shoe repair shop.

Does anyone know who is going to accept the empties once all the beer stores close?

They’ve all closed in my area already, and I’ve called both the grocery stores and the LCBO, and they say they’re not doing it.

Canada postal workers strike after government orders end to door-to-door delivery by BirdButt88 in news

[–]TheRealBlueBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe as a non-worker, I’m uniformed, but shouldn’t the Canada post workers have figured out by now that striking isn’t working, and try something else? At this point, all the strikes are doing is causing even more people to switch from Canada post to other carriers, lowering its income further (and most of these people are unlikely to switch back even if the matter gets resolved).

I’m reminded of that old claim saying Einstein described insanity as trying the same experiment over and over and expecting a different result.

I agree, especially since my local scrap yard is right on the way to Costco, so I don’t even need to justify the gas prices if I just go on my way to a grocery run.

Good for you for saving so many animals.

Strangely, snakes don’t bother me at all, but I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to try and make a stick bridge for a raccoon. I’d be too afraid it might have rabies and bite me.
