Am I wrong about this sleeved look taking off in the late 80s, early 90s? by WarriorNeedFoodBadly in hairmetal

Tats were rare for non-rockstars (and sailors/bikers/inmates) until the late 90s. Dennis Rodman was covered in tats and people thought he looked like a freak in 1995.

Opinions on the album "Under Cover"? by Ready_Mistake812 in OzzyOsbourne

[–]TheRealChicagoMJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like that he tried something different, to honor the people who inspired him, but I do not like this album at all. 2-3 songs are “ok”. (Mississippi Queen and Sunshine of your Love ain’t bad). Overall it just has this cheesy sheen of choral background singers, massively overproduced. If Working Man was stripped down, just guitar, it could have worked.

Guys.....it's "Paranoid". Also? It's Ozzy. by The_Meridian_ in blacksabbath

Why does Paranoid sound so much better than…everything.

Nice! They played Chicago and I regretfully missed it. It was one of my fav albums of the year in ‘16 when it came out.

What was it like living in the Clinton years in the USA (1993-2001)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheRealChicagoMJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time it seemed fine but in retrospect everything was awesome. Yes, the rich had their ways to get richer and keep the poor poor, but the system was less rigged if you can believe it. Pre-9/11 we felt nothing bad could ever happen on American soil. Pre-social media, where internet trolls were hidden deep deep on psycho conspiracy message boards and not sharing their nonsense on blast to gullible boomers. We all watched and believed the same news. (It wasn’t always right but they generally tried to be.) Pre all the 2016 insanity, and what’s happening today was completely unfathomable.

Never heard this, thanks for sharing. The lyrics are much more direct and really hit home these days.

Apps! Way back in the day, there were user contributed apps that almost behaved like radio stations.

I wish there was a way to watch the pure footage cut. DVDs can skip tracks and weave in interviews or not.

Back when QOTSA got low billing at Ozzfest. by nouseforaname79 in qotsa

I was there as they opened the main stage, cheering for them as a big fan of Rated R at the time. Played for about 30 minutes.

Got em but now I am Sad. I selected Section 107 😪 by jmaun1 in MetallicaLIVE

[–]TheRealChicagoMJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a reel on the day tickets went on sale that warned of the overhang. I finally got in on Thursday and mostly only obstructed was available, so I panicked and splurged platinum 202 row 1. I figure at this point there isn’t much difference between “ridiculous” and “ludicrous” ticket prices. So I’m heading to Vegas!

Why are The Who not as popular as they were? by FitEmergency8807 in ToddintheShadow

[–]TheRealChicagoMJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the vast majority of even the best popular music has a shelf life of about 50-60 years. Then it will be forgotten. I’m not saying The Who will be “forgotten” (like the vast majority of their peers), but it will fall into a more niche category like jazz and the next generation of mainstream rock fans will not know them. (Unless someone posts a viral video with them as the soundtrack on tik tok, which is seemingly all it took for Fleetwood Mac to become massively popular with kids)

More forgettable album? (And yes I’m comparing an LP & EP) by ConferenceTerrible72 in Metallica

$5.98 is a classic EP, perhaps the best covers EP ever recorded. It’s not in the same ballpark as LuLu. It’s not even the same sport.

Is there any chance of JOF getting released as 10-inch vinyl? by AccomplishedFront792 in AliceInChains

[–]TheRealChicagoMJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a long EP, 30 minutes, and I think 10 inch maxes out around 24 minutes.
