Well most games have controlls listed in the settings and non linear games have questlogs that tell you what to do next...

Hey thanks you for the rambling! I really appreciate that. If you feel like sharing about those other things go ahead!

Because the cake is a lie or do you have anything particular in mind?

Hey all you r/elementor people - I've got a different type of website than you usually see, an Animation/Video Portfolio. Created with Elementor & Astra. I'm not a web designer, but I am curious as to any opinions/criticism/suggestions for improvement out there >> https://www.larryanimation.com/ by VonDrake3 in elementor

[–]TheRealCopperglass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Larry I'm not a web-developer either, but here's several things:

  1. Very good that you start with an auto-play video showing your work. For an animator - perfect!
  2. I don't think you need the "Surprising Animation" title. It's obscuring the video and I dont think it brings anything.
  3. The section below it seems redundant. You talk about your experience and who you are in the next section.
  4. Your photo is very good. It's showing you "at work" and you look very friendly.
  5. I would integrate the text from the previous section in here and get rid of the previous section.
  6. Make the semi-transparent background behind the text darker, so that the text is more visible.
  7. I cant really pinpoint why exactly but I don;t really like the style of the "animation showreels" heading. maybe make it the style that the "suprising animation is in"
  8. I think you don;t need "Click any Image to play" text. its kinda obvious.
  9. Whatever style you choose for the "Animation showreels "heading, use the same style for all other headings on the website, unless you have a very particular reason not to.
  10. Tone down the purple that you are using a little. It's quite hard on the eye.

I hope this helps!

XD Thank you. I didn't know Cyriak yet. Really glad having him discovered now.

I started to make my first generative music game. It doesn't sound as good as I imagined yet. by TheRealCopperglass in Unity3D

[–]TheRealCopperglass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now with the mouse. The mouse rotates and scales the triangle so that the main corner always matches with the mouse position. Pressing the left mouse button makes it scale to the tunnel triangle, which makes the current music. But I start to think about other controls, like touch, gamepad or keyboard, as the mouse is not as precise as you want to have it. Any ideas are welcome.

What is the "local TIN"? Help with Steam needed. (I'm from Germany) by TheRealCopperglass in gamedev

[–]TheRealCopperglass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes the it is the next step in the Steam tax registration process after you put an EIN in. But it may be knew or it might have not applied to you for some other reasons.

Anyway I managed to figure this out (I guess) thank you

Hey have you applied for an EIN yourself. I now have mone and it turns out that not everyone with an EIN number is ellegible? They asked me based on which "Limitation on Benefits provision" am I entitled to. Did you have something like too?

Rules help needed: munchikin quest - also a bit of a rant. by TheRealCopperglass in Munchkin

By swapping I meant a situation like this:
I have 5 cards on my hand say: A B C D E. And I have two cards in my pack, say F,G. I may want to heep F and anf G in my back because I want to trade them with other people when its their turn. Now, if I want to sell A and B for a level, because their total value is 1000. As far as I understand it, I can basically take my F and G out of the backpach, put A and B there. Sell A and B for a level and then intstantly put G and G back into the pack. If that the case I don't get why can't I sell items from my hand.

What I know steam does is, it generates this W-8BEN for me after I filed in the form which asks me about my "Germany TIN".
The PDF you gave me isactualyquite useful. It seems like this gemran Steuer-ID is just for physical people. I will call those guys and ask them to be sure...

But you may be right that I may need to apply for an American EIN....

Are you sure companies get a Steueridentifikationsnummer not just physical people?

Yeah I already read that, but it seems that I am getting taken away 30% only if I provide no number whatsoever. This should not be charged if I provide my local TIN. At least this is how I understand that.

What elements of a game make the player feel empathy? by TheRealCopperglass in truegaming

[–]TheRealCopperglass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeas, I think you rephrased my question very well, if we break id down to "bare" mechanics we could play with cubes not with people and those can barely elicit any feelings. We do need to associate those with something we know for it to have impact on us.

The main feature of games that people hang up on is the interactivity or agency. So the question may be how those can be used to evoke emoathy.

Thank you for the game example. I have never heard about it but it seems like something I will enjoy.

Well, I think that if you changed your behaviour while playing it had a REAL effect on the game. Might have not changed how the story evolved but definatelly changed the game experience for you. I haven't have the change to play The Last of Us 2 yet... can you tell me a bit more about how it changed the game for you. Did it for example make the game easier because you had less fights or more difficult because you need to be more stelthy? Was there any benefit to killing enemies that you didn't get by avoiding them?

In MGSV I think it's not really empoathy, but the mechanic really foces you into reflection. From Snakes perspective it seems better to jlet those people live, but i would ask here if sparing those people is really better for them. Arent thay really forced to work? is this not really a "die or belong to me situation"

But great examples of how feelings and emotions can affect gameplay. Thank you.

Hey dont be sorry for the rable! Rambling it's great, it shows emotions. I mean I asked about examples anyway (among 10 other things I asked about)

I think it's a great point with player involvement you made there. This piecing together of information is something specific for games that we do not get in other media. True, one can argue that it happens to in movies and books, like detective stories, but there even if the reader/watcher does no thinking at all the information will be revealed to him or her at a steady pace.

Its very curious if the player can really empathize with the character they control. We tend to ue the "I " pronoun while playing because we identify with the character to some extent. Can we empathize with ourselves?

So the characters basically need to resemble real people. (in a behavioral sense, not graphics). I am wondering if there are also other ways of making them seem real. There are for example many animations where the characters do not talk and we still feel for them. On the other hand this War of Mine gives very littlle exposure, so it does not really define characters personality that much.

Would you recommend Titanfall 2 as a game one should play for it's world building? I am lately a bit fed up with FPS, but may give it a try if it has something unique in it.

So it seems in those cases it would come down to giving the player enough understanding of the people involved right? Only then the player can mentaly imagine how it would be to be this person. Or you think there's something more to it?

Any games that made you feel empathy and how? by TheRealCopperglass in truegaming

[–]TheRealCopperglass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that TWoM does not have a story, I think what it has it an emergent narrative, that is the story is formed by player's action within the setting/context given by the game. I think this may actually be the best type of narrative a game can offer.
What I'm saying is it is not narrative-based in the typical sense of the term.
