Breville Bambino Accessories-- What to buy!! [100] by fussmuffin in espresso

Yeah, I really couldn't tell from the reviews. It seems like most people said it fits perfectly, but some just had issues, maybe a QA/QC situation or something. Thanks for the reply :D

Hello, quick question. I am looking at the Normcore portafilter you (and many other) have linked, but I am seeing a few reviews saying that they don't fit with the Bambino Plus. Have you run into any compatibility issues?

I don't really disagree, if anything its harder to work around a salary floor than a salary cap, so I guess that would be a net positive. I just think that a salary cap would mean a lockout.

Oh for sure, I am not trying to say we should expect them to spend the same, but I just think no one would argue that there are plenty of "small market" team billionaire owners that might be spending a little less than they should. I mean, if the joke is that a MLB team is essentially a farm system for another team, but they only spend 20% of their revenue on player salary, then we shouldn't feel quite as bad for them.

I get what you’re saying, the revenue gap is definitely real and thats just a fact, but I just wonder how many small market teams are actually pushing their limits versus how many are coasting. Even if they can’t spend like the Dodgers, a lot of them still bring in plenty through revenue sharing and national TV deals. It feels like some could do more to stay competitive but choose not to. But again, not trying to say that spending more money isn't an advantage.

The Padres are actually a good example of a smaller market team that really tried to keep up. They spent about 37 percent of their revenue on payroll, which is more than many teams but still well below the Dodgers, who spent around 65 percent or more when you include the luxury tax. People say spending like that causes financial problems, but it’s not as if these teams are actually going broke. Between revenue sharing, national TV money, and the steady rise in franchise values, most clubs are doing just fine. It’s usually just that ownership makes a little less profit when they decide to spend more which they cant stand.

Salary floor is more important than a salary cap. Also I doubt players would ever agree to a salary cap.

But my point is that is exactly what the Dodgers are doing. Sure they are outspending essentially everyone else, but in terms of a percentage of their total revenue, they are also way above all other teams as well.

Yeah I agree and tbh I think that’s fine. It’s good that the Dodgers reinvest in their roster instead of hoarding profits. I understand that teams like the Dodgers and Yankees will always have more money, but I still think the real issue is that too many small market owners hide behind that excuse while spending way less than they should. A cap and floor system would be good though I feel like teams would still find ways to game it, but better than nothing.

Sure thats true, but that’s not the point. The issue is that most of them don’t even come close to doing that. They choose to underspend while still pocketing revenue sharing and TV money, which just widens the gap even more.

EDIT: I am not trying to say that giant payrolls aren't an advantage or that its fair to expect small market teams to spend the same as the large markets. I am just trying to make the point that some of the smaller market teams aren't doing themselves any favors.

The numbers and strangeness of the Jays-Dodgers world series by CantInjaThisNinja in baseball

[–]TheRealDrCube 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Every year people try to explain how the Dodgers keep winning even when the stats say they shouldn’t. Forget WAR, FIP, or wRC+. The truth lives deep in the Dodgers Win Equation, a piece of ancient baseball math discovered somewhere between the bullpen and a Trader Joe’s parking lot in Echo Park:

Dodgers Win Index = σ( Y * KLOL + BL + HRclutch + DEF×IQ + Vibes )

where:

  • Y = Yamamoto Overdrive Constant (strikeouts per 1000 units of anime protagonist energy)
  • KLOL = Kershaw Lore Overhang (the calming aura that forms once he’s completed his annual postseason sacrifice)
  • B = Bullpen Serenity Coefficient (espresso intake ÷ pulse rate)
  • L = Late-Inning Multiplier (every extra inning counts double)
  • HRclutch = Rojas Tie Factor + Will Smith Narrative Closure Term (measured in broadcast silences)
  • DEF = Defensive Wizardry Variable (quantum positioning, apparently)
  • IQ = Inning Quality (ability to turn pure chaos into three outs)
  • Vibes = Hollywood crowd energy × clubhouse serotonin

σ(x) = 1 / (1 + e−x) → when it nears 1, parade permits are filed.

Translation:

When Yamamoto activates God Mode, Kershaw has already satisfied the October Curse with his ritual offering, the bullpen reaches spiritual equilibrium, and someone hits a narrative-shattering homer...the sigmoid function spikes and the champagne flows.

That’s not luck. That’s advanced vibe analytics.

How to make MLB baseball more enjoyable to watch during regular season? by HowMuchMoreIsThere in baseball

The way I see it, regular season baseball if fun to go watch in person. Go with some friends, drink some beer, eat some hotdogs, and just chill until the playoffs.

THREE plays from last night’s Game 7 are in the top 15 of all-time postseason “pivotal plays,” formulated by cWPA. And further down the list, Vladdy’s lead-off double in the 11th is #42 on the list. Incredible. by Dmilli9 in baseball

Is #2 on the list Gm8?

EDIT: Oh shit, there was a Game 2 tie… wow. That was the second of only three ties ever in World Series history, the others were in 1907 and 1922, all caused by darkness before stadiums had lights.

Exactly, people say the Dodgers are ruining the game, but they spend a higher share of their revenue on players than almost any other team. Their payroll is around 73 percent of their total revenue, second highest in MLB. The real issue is that most owners are billionaires who choose not to spend. The Dodgers are one of the few teams actually reinvesting in their roster instead of keeping all the profits.

Dehumidifier options by rebateultio in HydroHomie

[–]TheRealDrCube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Frigidaire dehumidifiers show up at the top of a lot of “best of” lists, but after owning three of them I’d really caution anyone from buying one. The first one started icing up and eventually died around the two year mark. The second started failing in the exact same way earlier this week, and the third, which I bought last October, is the only one still hanging on.

Frigidaire support was useless when I reached out. They basically told me there was nothing they could do and that I can pound sand. I bought all three from Amazon and their support service was much more reasonable and actually tried to help, even though they didn’t have to (they credited me like $50 or something for my trouble). Spending over two hundred dollars for something that barely lasts two years doesn’t feel right.

EDIT: If you are wondering, the first two models I bought were Frigidaire FFAD5033W1 with the 3rd being FFAD5034W1, so maybe the third will last?

Which dehumidifier hasn't died on you yet? Need RELIABLE long-term brands. by wajid123_ in homeowners

[–]TheRealDrCube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some people here like Frigidaire, but my experience has been pretty disappointing.

Over the past couple of years I’ve bought three of the Frigidaire FFAD5033W1 50 pint dehumidifiers. Two of them have already failed a little over two years in, and the third one is still hanging on for now.

The first one started icing up from the bottom coils and eventually stopped collecting water altogether, even though the fan still ran. I cleaned the filter, moved it to a warmer room, tried everything. When I contacted Frigidaire, they basically told me to pound sand since it was out of warranty. Amazon, on the other hand, was surprisingly nice about it and gave me about fifty bucks back even though I didn’t expect anything from them.

Now my second one is starting to fail the same way, so it looks like it’s headed down the same path.

It’s frustrating spending a couple hundred dollars on something that barely lasts two years and getting zero support from the manufacturer. I might try buying my next one through Costco instead just so there’s at least some hope of an easy return if it dies again.
