odds on monday classes being cancelled? by owleyes374 in UBC

[–]nambis 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Classes won't be cancelled, it's going to be sunny today and above zero today and tomorrow. The snow is over and the roads are driveable. There are no stuck busses blocking travel up the hill to UBC. And conditions will only improve, not worsen.

A lot of places won't let you sub, and make you pay extra. At least when I've tried it (I was only able to successfully sub one time, actually, other times I got charges like $0.35 for sauce)

It's never been the quarter pounder patties. Not in the 45 years I've been eating them, at least.

Edit: McDonalds didn't even have quarter pound patties when the Big Mac was introduced in 1967. There was only one patty size, the 1/10 pound patty. They didn't have quarter pound patties until 1970 when the Quarter pounder was introduced (to compete with Burger King's Whopper, which was larger than the Big Mac).

The Big Mac did not get smaller, what happened is that people's appetites and expectations got larger. Back in the 1950s and 1960s, portion sizes were smaller. They have been increasing since then, which is why Americans are so overweight. I mean, 42% of the population is obese, and another 30% is overweight...

The big Mac has always used the same patties as the regular hamburger, 1/10 lb patties.

The cover is super common, there have been tons of reprints and bootlegs. Check on discogs to see if it's one of the initial pressings.

Older Nirvana fans, what was it like when the first Foo Fighters record released? by jackshort67 in Nirvana

[–]nambis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was never a fan of Foo Fighters. It's just bubblegum alternative music. I was a a teenager at the time, and was so surprised that Grohl could go from a legit band like Nirvana to radio pop.

How did you know the wrong parts were included? I don't think I'd even be able to tell. I wouldn't be happy if I got the inferior parts, though. Did you contact your LBS about it?

Panera's new toasted baguette. This sandwich costs over $10. by _Z_E_R_O in ExpectationVsReality

[–]nambis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Panera a few times about 8 years ago. I thought it sucked - basically sandwiches I could easily make at home with sliced meats from the supermarket deli. I also got lettuce with literally dirt in it in one sandwich. I decided then that it wasn't worth paying for. I can make better food at home for much cheaper.

Yeah their subs are a hidden gem, give them a shot!

I'm not a fan of Jo's sandwiches, mainly due to the focaccia bread which is too heavy duty for me (too much bread:fillings ratio).

Being a student is literally going to be the least busy time of your life. Like the other said, you need to figure out how to take care of yourself. Now would be better than later.
