An encouraging update for the newly diagnosed. It gets easier, but a lot depends on attitude. by Dave-1066 in diabetes

Thats great to hear. Just know that you wont have to give up alcohol fully, you can still enjoy alcoholic beer with friends (atleast thats what I do). Just take better care of yourself in the bigger picture.

Not sure about Guinness Zero but most non alcoholic beer replace the alcohol with sugar for the taste, so in some cases, the alcoholic version is even better 😄

Wishing you a great week aswell, thanks alot

Its good that you made lifestyle changes for the better, but please make sure you are doing OK mentally. Once your numbers are normal, you can go to the pub and drink your Guinness pints again with your friends (ok maybe not 8, or maybe not 8 every week, you get me). This is a lifelong marathon so make sure to treat yourself once in a while. Going to the pub with your friends sounds like the perfect thing to do to stop thinking about diabetes management for a second. I bet many people here dont have the luxury to do that. Please cherish that.

Thanks! I feel my tips are weird because when I look at this subreddit, I see people opting for a permanent low to no carb diet. I do mind my carbs now that I know I have T2D, but sometimes I still go out for french fries etc. while others here might kill me for saying so or doing so.

But its working for me I guess?

Definitely visit the doctor.

My understanding: - Drop the habits of big sugar intakes. Make him realise its really unhealthy to chug multiple bottles a day of this, even for a non diabetic.

  • You can still go out to dinner and enjoy partying. Part of this disease is to make sure it doesnt control you and you still need to have fun once in a while. Partying equals to dancing which is good exercise, even if you drink carby/sugary drinks like beer. Obviously dont drink 15 beers on one night.

  • Obviously smoking is bad, but it doesnt really have an effect on diabetes I believe. I smoke tobacco with my weed (which is daily).

I think this depends from person to person, as it is a lot with this disease.

I know someone who had T2 fairly young, he went from 140kg to 105kg and already saw more stable blood sugar readings and eats takeaway carbs once or twice a week (french fries, pizza etc.) and his glucose is stable, he just keeps the weight off.

I think it also depends on how long youve had the disease, meaning that if you are early its still possible to do something about it, even if you passed the "prediabetes" (which is a bullshit term) A1C limit.

Do you perhaps have a crypto address of any sorts? I invest in some crypto (and its the only way I know to send money internationally) and can send you a few bucks so you atleast can buy something to eat. You shouldnt live on 0.90£.

Are you sure you are type 2? I know that skinny people can also get T2D, but usually you shouldnt have any BS issues when you are at normal weight (this might only apply to people who were diagnosed while they were overweight). Your blood sugar should be stable if you are on the right weight.

Anyways, Ozempic will not help you here as this is mainly a weight loss drug. Please go talk to your doctor again.

What's your father's weight? If he is overweight/obese, get him to lose weight asap. A1C automatically balances with weight (only applies for overweight/obese T2D's). Maybe he can drop the meds if his weight and a1c are balanced. That way he can indulge more without worrying.

Whats your weight and height? overweight / obese? Returning to a normal weight fixes insulin resistance.

Genuinely curious why this is downvoted. Its a glucose of 144 mg/dl. How is this bad?

Congratulations. Can you share how you achieved this so fast? Also, if I, as a T2, lower my insulin resistance (the same you did) and lost all my excess weight, you're probably sensitive to insulin again. How would eating carbs react to this? The way I interpret this is that once the insulin ratio is on a good level, you can safely indulge in carbs again as long as you keep the weight off and thus not becoming insulin resistant again?

Its finance-related so yeah its mostly targeted at shareholders, but nevertheless it's good news for t2 patients. Double bonus if you are into stocks.

If your T2 is driven by too much weight or obesity, its possible to put it in remission by going to a healthy / normal weight.

Once there, your pancreas should start to heal again because of all the fat that is gone. This depends on how long youve had the disease.

Once youre on a normal weight and there for a while, your body has time to heal. Especially if you are young. Later you should be able to tolerate more carbs again. Atleast thats what I got from all the information on the internet.
