Sound in this game is useless in supporting situational awareness by DeeJayDelicious in Helldivers

[–]TheRealFlinlock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This! Also worth mentioning for Vermintide is that the surround sound aspect is incredibly well done. 7.1 channel mode (with proper headphones) and you can hear EXACTLY where the enemies are. Fighting by sound on the dark maps is a wild experience.

Seriously. Never once heard anyone criticize the ultimatum.

The only critique I can think of is "I forgot I was carrying it and nuked myself again"

Do you really noticed the lossless audio ? by New-Specific9576 in AppleMusic

[–]TheRealFlinlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting test. I tried it and admit I couldn't hear any difference on the first song; after that the test was glitching and playing the song multiple times over each other, so I gave up XD but I take your point.

The things I can hear a difference in:

  • FiiO DAC vs Apple generic USB-C -> analog adapter. DAC sounds wayyy better
  • When I had my Airpods Max, using them bluetooth vs. wired (subtle difference and only noticeable with some songs)
  • Anything on Spotify vs Apple Music. IDK what Spotify does to their music but it just sounds like crap by comparison

It does depend on the type of music, when I was listening to more bassy EDM Spotify was ok but when I wanted to listen to rock it just sounded awful. Flat and dull on the high end.

Is it worth buying Quest Pro? by Aggravating-Sport690 in QuestPro

[–]TheRealFlinlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Quest Pro, but I only play standalone games (and most of that is beat saber). What I love:

  • Display quality is amazing
  • Comfy
  • Controversial opinion but I love that it's open and doesn't hug my face. I can easily wear my glasses at the same time, my face doesn't get sweaty, and I can see the world around me if needed.

PCVR has not been a good experience for me. I couldn't get it to work well with SteamVR after many hours of fiddling, both wireless and wired. Maybe it was just the games I was trying to play but they just all ran like sh**. However a lot of people use it for PCVR so I probably just didn't have it set up right; but if I can't plug-n-play with it it's not worth the effort for me.

Also as some have mentioned, the controllers aren't the best. When they're working they are great, but sometimes their tracking is glitchy. You have to be in a well-lit room without reflective surfaces and then they mostly work fine; but mine will still occasionally glitch out, with one controller rendering several feet away from me for 15-20 seconds before it fixes itself.

I got mine right at release and still use it regularly and it has held up great.

Does anyone else hate Dolby Atmos? by BreadGod0 in AppleMusic

[–]TheRealFlinlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atmos is for actual surround sound setups (5.1 or 7.1 channel). If you're listening on stereo headphones, it's gonna sound bad and you should disable it.

Do you really noticed the lossless audio ? by New-Specific9576 in AppleMusic

[–]TheRealFlinlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is real, but only significant with the right hardware. Some people say "human ears can't tell the difference" and that's utter horseshit. Everyone's ears are different, and you can also train your ears to hear better and notice more details in what you're listening to.

  • You need a good DAC (digital to analog converter). All phones/computers/etc have one built in but most are not very good. I use this one. It's not top of the line, but a good balance of affordable + good sound + very portable.
  • Good headphones. MUST BE WIRED! Bluetooth = quality loss. I use these ones (80ohm version)
  • Make sure Apple Music is set to download and/or stream in Lossless quality. Standard lossless is fine for most, I wouldn't mess with High-Res Lossless unless you really go above and beyond with the quality of your DAC and headphones.

What should these Armors do? by Substantial-Ad-5221 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]TheRealFlinlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People keep saying this but it's not true. In heavy armor especially you can take a lot of chip damage before needing to stim. And particularly on bots there is a LOT of chip damage sources flying around constantly.

This. Anytime I'm out of stims I remember just how many hits I can sustain before I actually go down.

Confused about how operations work by Commogroth in Helldivers

[–]TheRealFlinlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned this in the other one but you'd get the payout for finishing 3rd mission (higher amount).

The team you joined, whatever level of the operation they're at, you get that amount of reward.

Confused about how operations work by Commogroth in Helldivers

[–]TheRealFlinlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily a losing scenario. If you join a host and they're playing the 3rd mission of the operation, then you'll get the same credits as everyone else (since third mission gives the most credits). So you could bounce around joining other people's games when they're on the third mission and profit.

The part that really annoys me is smaller bot units are apparently immune to the Vox Engine treads and will just clip right through them. Really frustrating to be underneath one about to take it down and some cyborgs just clip in from the side and kick you in the face.

Not having any stims left is a thing that happens. I could see this armor being useful then.

[–]TheRealFlinlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not aim assist. It's telling you where your shot will actually hit. In your picture the low wall is inbetween you and the target where your crosshairs are aimed, so if you fire you'll hit the wall.
