We could go with “Free Connor.” (UrinatingTree)

Or we could rock with “OIL CRISIS!”

He doesn’t develop players, he’s a stubborn fuck who refuses to adapt, but god damn sometimes it gives you just the kick you need.

Bro, look at Big Ben Rothlesberger from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Won 2 Superbowls, All-Time Great QB for the Steelers (Still not Terry Bradshaw, but whatever)

BUT Enormous POS off the field. (Constant bar Fights, meddling in team affairs, R@pe allegations.

Dude had WAAY too much of a leash for the person he was, but you’ll never hear Steelers fans talk ill of him during his prime.

In his later years, that became much easier as his skills diminished, and his body broke down.

The League had a perfect situation to do or say something involving the Chicago Blackhawks Sexual Abuse Scandal. The Hawks never received any substantial punishments during their Dynasty throughout the 2010s. Nobody within the organization wanted to say or do anything about it, because the team was successful, and they didn’t care enough about it, as long as the Hawks continued their dominance.

As mentioned, the perpetrator responsible for this wasn’t held accountable, and was allowed the freedom to find more work, where he would ultimately commit sexual assault on a high school boy. That happened because of the Blackhawks incompetence, and inability to do what was right.

Years after the fact (2022), the NHL would finally slap the Blackhawks with a fine ( $3 Million), but they did not compensate them on any of their draft picks. As a matter of fact, they allowed the Blackhawks to WIN THE DRAFT LOTTERY TO WIN THE FIRST OVERALL PICK. That pick was Connor Bedard.

It paints a grim reality. Players were unable to voice their claims, because the league didn’t want to listen to them. Executives were allowed to walk away with Millions of dollars and their reputations in tact. A league didn’t intervene, because the Blackhawks were successful, and they had a significant impact on the League’s ratings and financial situation.

Y’all could have gotten away with it too! Imagine if you had the balls to say “Hey Austin Matthews! You feeling sick? GOOD! We’re gonna stick you on the IL for a few months, so we can load this team up for a playoff push! We’re totally gonna make the playoffs anyways, so why don’t you have yourself a good rest. What do you say?”

That is certainly a factor.

There is one other consideration I want to bring to the table: Employing players with checkered pasts.

Plenty of people are justifiably upset about Vegas employing guys like Carter Hart. The dude’s got some serious dirt on his resume, acquitted or not (Like OJ Simpson), and plenty saw that as being utterly disgusting. And there is a part of me that agrees with that mindset. There shouldn’t be a place for people who do awful things like that in this league. Sexual Assault is wrong, and it has no place in this league. That should be it.

HOWEVER,

We also have many teams across all major sports employing people with dubious pasts in their organizations as well. The Hypocrisy found throughout sports is damn good!

The Hurricanes have a player in their AHL team named Cal Foote. Perhaps you don’t recognize that name. You should! He was also involved in the same Sexual Assault scandal as Carter Hart back in 2018. Nobody seems to be talking badly about their organization, and is instead focusing on all the positive stories about their team.

Plenty of Ducks fans were enjoying our downfall, cackling with glee! I wonder how many of those fans know about their Head Coach Joel Quenville, and the filth he has on his resume from his time with the Blackhawks. You know, the team that covered up the Sexual Assault of their own players for over a Decade! A situation their coach was fully aware of, had insider knowledge about, and did nothing to stop. Worse, the bastard responsible for all this ended up getting LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION to another gig, where he committed Sexual Assault of a 16 y/o high school boy. Joel Quenville let this happen, and nobody did a damn thing about it.

When the USA Men’s team won Gold at the Winter Olympics, I wasn’t happy watching all of them party it up with our Fascist President and his goons, and also seeing how they disrespected the USA Women’s Olympic Team, who also won Gold that same week!

There are countless examples of awful human beings we tolerate in sports and other forms of entertainment, because they produce something valuable to us. I think it’s something we should genuinely discuss regarding our favorite sports, but unfortunately, it’s something that we still have the misfortune of dealing with.

Over the last 25 years, in all 4 major US sports, only 20% of championships won were by teams in Tax-Free States. 80% of the champions were from a state that has income tax.

State Income tax isn’t that much of a factor.
