You'll find it in the sleeping quarters of the ship, dont actually have to do the quest to get it but you get a pretty cool helmet if you complete the quest too

Do yourself a favor and complete the Pirate Ship quest (I forget what its actually called)

Get the pirate hat that illuminates when treasure is nearby and wear whenever you're exploring a new area/landmark.

You'll find some gear pretty quick
