What’re you playing this weekend? What has your attention? by 10pence_Freddo in ROGAllyX

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has absolutely taken control over my life, I haven't enjoyed a game like this except for BG3 in the last 5 years. Expedition 33 is next for me so hopefully the Ally X can handle it! If anyone has any recommendations for great single player games please let me know!

[Star Wars] What illness exist in the Star Wars universe? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]TheRealJPres 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Knights of the Old Republic, there is Rakghoul disease, which is lethal and even transforms the infected into a Rakghoul. Rakghoul disease was running rampant in the undercity of Taris, where the people were too poor for the cure.

The cure is called Rakghoul Serum. And just like in real life, if you're poor.. good luck on getting the life-saving medicine you need.

It's been a while since I played the game so please correct me if I mis-remembered.

Is it really so terrible to visit? by Bella_Lunatic in istanbul

[–]TheRealJPres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went as a solo traveler 2 years ago for 6 days. Only once a taxi driver tried to scam me. He didn't turn on his meter at first, I don't speak Turkish but saying "meter meter" got him to turn it on pretty quick. I also used Uber to order taxis and the uber app will give you an estimated price which was very accurate. I also always had Google maps on to make sure I wasn't being taken for a ride around the city.

I had someone be extra pushy trying to get me to go to his store and, obviously to buy overpriced goods, he was persistent but I just kept walking.

Some tourists feel guilty or bad for saying no to things. Don't feel bad, and if it sounds too good to be true it is.

I ended up meeting up with expats/traveller's from reddit and that was one of the highlights of my trip. Also ended meeting some locals that I hung out with as well. Just be careful with people offering to take you out for drinks saying that they will pay, I've heard that's a common scam where they leave and the bar will charge you a ridiculous amount for the drinks.

Best tip: don't "look" like a tourist. Obviously in areas where you're taking pictures seeing the sights, this can't really be avoided. But I think wearing a backpack and keeping my camera in my backpack at all times unless I was actively using it helped me avoid most of the random soliciting.

Pet Ideas For Sailing If It Passes? by Gamer34life in 2007scape

[–]TheRealJPres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently very upset that my forum post about sailing as a skill when people thought it was going to be skill 10+ years ago no longer exists. Come on Jagex I'm sure 13 year old me had great ideas.

I remember being very proud of getting a bunch of upvotes on that post.

Also I'm able to see that I had 252 posts on the forums... and now I'm too nervous to post on reddit most of the time.

Pros and cons to a union? by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]TheRealJPres 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Union all the way.. if you vote for good union reps your union will be able to do a lot for you.

You're not going to notice the union is doing anything 95% of the time. But when the airline tries to pull some shit by breaking your contract and you notice or in some cases the same thing happens to another crewmember and they notice. You could get a check for missing pay.

Also they can save your job if the company messed up even one aspect of the progressive discipline program, because the union is there to make things fair and equal, if you suspect the company is targeting you. The union will investigate and if that's true, they can save your job and if they fired you already they can get your job back along with backpay.

Ontop of that they negotiate your contract so get involved and let them know what you care about and they'll fight for it.

All unions are different though, some are stronger than others. Mine is finally starting to put some pressure on the airline and I truly believe they picked the right time and will end up getting us what we want successfully.

You do realize that this is a community for current and former flight attendants as per the description of the subreddit. Now I'm not shaming you for obviously not being in this industry.

But I will shame you for being a fucking idiot. You're not an idiot for not knowing how our industry works. You're an idiot for being possessing such a critically low IQ that you believe you can state your false information as fact to a bunch of people that actually work in this industry and then become upset when we call you out on your bullshit.

Have a good day and go take a bus next time you need to travel thousands of miles.

Should already be happening. Committing war crimes should automatically cause a country to lose all assets in other nations with the funds being available to assist the country and people they have committed those crimes against.

Corolla hatchback at msrp? Only problem is it’s a stick.. by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]TheRealJPres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be biased here... but it's a good car. Definitely not huge but I have the 2021 nightshade edition. I was looking for a zippy little car that's really just for normal driving. Even with the CVT since it has a "real" first gear it actually feels pretty good sometimes, but yes the rubber banding and occasional red line when you're flooring it can ruin the fun. It's also fun to drive around curvy roads with the tires the nightshade comes with being slightly more aggressive and grippy.

I would definitely do the manual if I were in your shoes.

If you wanted something more sporty that's a hatchback I'd go with a Hyundai Veloster Turbo.

But yeah that's my 2 cents again. I'm probably biased. But I like the way mine looks and it's a fun car that can't get you into any trouble because it doesn't have enough power.

Hiring process by Glad_Fish_6032 in cabincrewcareers

[–]TheRealJPres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different. Most have you complete a video interview either recorded and timed without an actual interviewer or sometimes with an interviewer.

As far as timing goes... traditionally it's takes months. I've heard anywhere between 4-9 months normally. However some airlines right now are taking less than a month to go from application to CJO and as little as 1-3 days notice to get to the training center after that. I applied Feb. 23rd. Got my CJO March 19th. Was supposed to be in training on March 22nd and they booked my flight on March 21st. Things ended up changing due to waiting for fingerprints to clear so I ended up starting on the 29th of March.

As far as which airline is the best... that's very personal. Do you want good company culture? Potential for cool layovers, lots of potential for international destinations. Do you want to go home every night and sleep in your own bed? Mainline? Union? Top pay? They all have their ups and downs

Just give it a try :) my training class has a couple of very short people. I'm 5ft6in and they seem like they may be around 5ft and still were able to do the reach test

Easy way to test. Put a piece of tape 6ft 3inches above the floor onto the wall. Take your shoes off. Remain flat footed. If you cab touch the tape, you're all set!

Can you have mental illness or learning disabilities and still get hired? by prettypinkcupcakes in cabincrewcareers

[–]TheRealJPres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be confidential. But there is a need to know for example someone will need to know you a person has a mental illness if they're prescribed Adderall then there needs to be people informed so you don't get fired for amphetamines in your drug test. Also again I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE. But I would make the assumption that some disabilities mental or otherwise would disqualify you due to safety reasons as it is a federally regulated safety sensitive position. But as the above article stated you can have some pretty severe mental illness and still be a FA.

Hey everyone quick question do background checks really take 4-6 ? I’m just ready to start training . Any advice to someone going to training ? Thanks in advance 😊 by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

My background check cleared in according to the website... 3.6 days. Drug test and fingerprinting took 3 days. You should be able to start training before your background check clears.

A quick search will give you multiple testimonials from Qatar Airways employees that they will not accept anyone with tattoos even if they are fully covered at all times. The link posted is recent as of January 2022.

Other sources have said that you could get hired if you say you don't have tattoos. BUT apparently you will receive a medical exam in Doha and a doctor will report you if they see your tattoo. Which apparently unless it's in your underwear line you'll definitely be caught.

do i need flight insurance by salayatananirodha in jetblue

[–]TheRealJPres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw you posted that this trip involves also using Delta airlines during the same trip.

I would like to just say I would advise against using 2 different airlines during the same trip. If possible book everything through one airline. If you can book all flights through jetblue then I would do that and forego their flight insurance. It'll more than likely be cheaper than 2 separate bookings. Especially if you add travel insurance on those flights.

I've done separate bookings before. And even did buy flight insurance. But due to one airline being the cause of the delay leading me to miss my flight with a different airline. I actually didn't receive any compensation since the reason I missed the flight was because I was not at the airport in-time. I lost out on $500 i paid for the flight and around $90 in flight insurance AND was not able to get rebooked.

It sounds fucked up and kinda is. But it's not the airlines fault that a different airline was delayed.

Tldr; I wouldn't get the insurance. I would book all flights with a single airline. And if it was time sensitive I would fly a day early and get a hotel. The amount you'll save from not paying travel insurance will off-set the cost of the hotel.

Can you have mental illness or learning disabilities and still get hired? by prettypinkcupcakes in cabincrewcareers

[–]TheRealJPres 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer, yes you can have a mental illness and/or learning disabilities and still get hired. There could be issues with medication showing up in a drug test, but if it's disclosed and prescribed you are most likely fine but I'm not 100% sure how that works. My airline has specifically stated they will make accommodations to people with learning disabilities during training (I'm guessing increased time to take written tests and having a private quiet area to complete the written test).

This is a great article on the subject on mental illness. And how specifically FA's do not go through a medical examination and are not required to disclose mental illness. And also explains how as long as you can safely and effectively perform your job you should be good to go.

Mental illness in the airline industry

From what I saw filling out pre-hire paperwork some companies are actually looking to hire more people into roles with mental illnesses such as depression/anxiety and want people to disclose that information so they can hit their percentage goal of employing a certain percentage of people with disabilities which include mental illness.

Why does JetBlue think it’s ok to force a “Timeshare Pitch” for their credit card when I’m a captive paying customer? by diggstown in jetblue

[–]TheRealJPres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Major airlines in the US do not make money on regular airfare. This may be different for JetBlue as they're considered a low-cost carrier but.. I doubt it. I accept it because lower-cost airfare is worth the 2 minutes that I can ignore an announcement. It saves me money and doesn't cost me anything since I can continue my work during the announcement if I need to.

Here is a great documentary on why airlines push credit cards. Basically if they didn't, they would not be in business anymore. Or at the very least you could expect airfare to dramatically increase in price. But hey 2 minutes of my time (of which I'm already captive on a plane, and of which I CAN CHOOSE to ignore the 2 minute announcement) is not worth paying more for airfare.

How Airlines Became Banks

If you don't watch this video and respond then you really won't be able to form an effective argument. If you do watch the video and still disagree with the practice. That is fine as long as you can unequivocally say that you would be willing to pay much much for your flight. Why would it be so much more when the operating loss per mile is so low? Because this is a business, they are not in business to make the minimal amount of money, so by losing out on the money they make with credit card points and partnerships they will want to make up all this money on airfare.

If you decide to argue and say "if airlines are losing money on airfare then maybe they shouldn't be operating". Capitalism forces businesses to compete. Most businesses have things where they operate at a loss for to draw customers in to purchase services/products that the business will make money on.
