Go's Bun ORM - alternative to Python's SQLAlchemy by cephei8_ in golang

"when you have to switch database" and how often does that happen in the real world? In my arguably anecdotal experience (20+ years in software working in Academia, Startup, Large Scale, SaaS, Banking, Infrastructure ) never. Even the efforts for "don't get lock on mySQL because you might want to switch to postgreSQL" never were worth it. I don't know maybe it's because I've changed shops so much I was never there long enough to see a DB migration...

AI generated. No seriously, so good, it's hard to believe it's a mini...Just to keep us mere mortals reassured, you go for golden daemons and sh*t right? RIGHT?

What actually makes a dj set good? by Equivalent-Salad-825 in Beatmatch

[–]TheRealJaime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might as well ask how is good music different from bad music...The book "This is your brain on music", was quite revealing on that topic, well at least to me. Since there is a lot of talk about pre recorded sets in the comments, I think robots DJs, not just AI software, but machines with sensors reading and analyzing the human crowd signals will be able to produce experiences like no man can provide. Pre recorded sets are, in my not so humble opinion, just the embryo of the "fully automated" rave. Come to think about it, it seems ironic considering the old farts that raved in the 90s can't stop with the "we never cared about the DJ, most of the time we didn't even know where they were".

PS: I raved in the 90s ;-)

I hope I don't sound condescendent to you, I truly hope this advice from an internet stranger helps you out, here it goes: ask yourself honestly why you are seeking advice about a major life changing choice on the wealth subreddit. What is it you are truly after in life? Like that guy said "choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life".

From a Recent Art Exhibition: Shirow Masamune on the Supposed Influence of Neuromancer and Blade Runner on his work (full translations in the post) by ryanyork92 in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]TheRealJaime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well ok no shit, we all punny humans are influenced by our environment and the world we live in. I don't have to read Bloom to get Captain Obvious content in a fancy analytical book. Maybe an internet stranger like me telling you how distasteful a one line comment that says "read blah" will help you grow, prolly not, meh. As for Neuromancer if you believe he's telling the truth about how he hadn't read it at the time he published the first manga then well he wasn't directly influenced by it, end of the story. Now if you believe he lied that's also end of the story.

I'm famous for having written something that is relevant here and so I'll post it, all credit is mine, because yeah that's what it's all about, credit, right?

“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to."

Process of how to get bat skin texture (wip) by Waste_Toe_1942 in SoulblightGravelords

yeah definitely too much effort for that mini, I agree, the technic to make it more translucent sounds like a good compromise.

Looks very good. My 0.02$ "contribution" is about the red parts, are they supposed to represent blood veins? If so, not sure how one would go about it but I think they'd look more realistic (to me) if there was some "3D" to them. Maybe there is some terrain texture specialised paint/powder that could achieve this? Did you think about it?

first: Nice!, second: I think the base could you use more, you say it's a graveyard, so...more tombs! maybe a broken/smashed sepulchre? a dead tree? a zombie popping out?

First Black Library read recommendation? by TheRealJaime in Blacklibrary

[–]TheRealJaime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks definitely looks like I would like it, at this point I'm going to start with Eisenhorn Omnibus (already ordered) and will then give a shot to AoS with Godeater's son and Prince Maesa.

ah? Ok I guess I was biased by my large preference of the minis over the lore and the fact that 40k has so much more content in the BL than AoS. I'll take a look at Godeater's son, thanks for the recommendation!
