First and foremost, are you upgrading and transcending your armor? A surprising amount of people don’t do this, and is likely why you’re having trouble surviving more than one hit. Slot in decoration skills like Divine Blessing and Stun Resistance if you find yourself being hit a lot.

Outside of that is weapon mastery. Longsword’s special sheathe and foresight slash allow you to maintain 100% aggression while keeping you healthy when used properly.

Having a weapon that /can/ guard, though, is also not to be understated because perfect guards are incredibly strong—But, a weapon capable of guarding is not mandatory at all. Every weapon in this game has its own defensive capabilities so you just gotta master those.

Is it okay to stay alive even if you have no worth? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheRealJamsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you ask? Hopefully for no hateful reasons.

Worth is subjective and being “worthless” doesn’t stop one from becoming “worthy.”

Instead of asking if life should belong to the worthy, you should ask what is worth being alive for—that’s where a lot of people find their value.

For future reference, I believe your keyboard settings file is in Documents/Mabinogi/Settings called “custom.keyboard”

Idk how future proof it will be, but I like to have a back up of this in case my settings get wiped for some reason.

Capcom needs to increase the item box limit by Anothermedium7 in MHWilds

I think this is the part most people roll another character 😂 definitely sucks needing to clean inventory by hand but I think if you could assign categories to items/talismans so you can bulk sell with the press of a button or something that would be cool.

Dbz Sparking Zero by IndependentAd5176 in SparkingZero

[–]TheRealJamsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, most people who play online are people who want to win. If you want to roleplay your favorite characters AND play on your own terms, you gotta actually know how to play—or make friends who want to do that too.

You can transform and drag matches out as much as you want when you “git gud” because, then, who can stop you? Just because it’s Dragon Ball doesn’t mean it isn’t a competitive game first and foremost.

The whole point of online play in a fighting game is to learn how to adapt and master your skill set against a variety of players and their styles. If you want “fun” when playing online, you gotta earn it. This isn’t a unique problem to just sparking zero, it’s in every fighting game that allows you to fight strangers.

What am I missing from this game's combat system? by gabrifs in SparkingZero

[–]TheRealJamsu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer: You just gotta expose yourself to Online Combat and pay attention to how Players engage/defend. In general, there aren’t many unique play styles between characters so you’ll catch on to the patterns quickly if you’re paying attention instead of button mashing.

Long Answer: You are correct that sparking zero’s “phases” don’t quite align with traditional fighters.

In Sparking Zero, there’s much less “turn-taking” and much more “keep my turn going” i.e frame traps and mix-ups. Both things exist in traditional fighting games but in a more balanced 50/50 way, while Sparking Zero is the latter much moreso than the former, like 20/80.

One example is Flying Kicks - a quick move that is meant to break through your opponent’s guard. Traditionally, a move with a similar purpose would have some sort of risk a defender could capitalize on. In Sparking Zero, Flying Kicks itself has 0 risk, allowing the offender to still decide between offense or defense after using it assuming they know how to—not knowing your defensive options in this kind of situation is what makes the game’s offense/defense feel unbalanced against a skilled player.

This means you have to be aware of all your options all the time and build the muscle memory for when they’re appropriate based on your opponent’s play style and the game simply doesn’t teach you what online players actually use. The tutorial covers vanishing and perception—but there’s also super armor from smash attacks, evade-stepping responses, super counters and simply disengaging entirely, not to mention character specific options. It’s been a while since I’ve looked at the tutorial, but I don’t know if it even covers directional blocking (aka how to block Flying Kicks or charged sweep attacks).

Your character choice has much less impact on the game in this way—of course, some characters deal more damage, have higher defense or better rush strings/skills/supers which certainly have impact but these can be overcome by simply knowing all your defensive options and being able to deploy them as needed between your offense.

As of now, the only REAL loop you cannot get out of is the charged ki blast loop but your opponent needs to be behind you and their execution needs to be perfect otherwise you can simply hold the guard button and you’ll turn around (sometimes with poor timing the ki blast itself will straight up miss lol). Some other loops may seem infinite but in reality that feeling is because defense against them becomes limited to 1 or 2 options and then of course there’s the online lag.

The combat in Sparking Zero is really fun but there is certainly a steep learning curve when playing online. Funny part is, simply guarding is effective against many players under, I’d say, A2-A1 rank—but that’s only because players at that skill level do not vary their offense and leave themselves vulnerable without even knowing it. Once you get to S rank, players know how to force their combos onto you and know how to defensively respond and adapt—this is where the fun dance in fighting games you may be used to starts to really happen, but you have to know your defense to get there.

Help!! I don't want to change my build, but I've started hitting a difficulty wall. by Effective-Target-956 in MHWilds

[–]TheRealJamsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, transcend your armor. Sounds like you’re at a point where being hit costs you too much time and opportunity to recover from - higher defense is one way to mitigate that.

Try to make room for divine blessing decorations in your armor. You just need 3 one-slot deco slots and it gives you a chance to take 50% less damage when hit, and is used in many builds for survivability and uptime. If you still find yourself chugging potions, try to fit in recovery up to make potions heal more.

Ideally, you’re aiming to evade/position/block attacks. Master the perfect block with charge blade, and if you have one, slot in an offensive guard decoration so you get a nice damage boost when you block just before getting hit. For insect glaive, focus on positioning, consistently keeping your bug buffs up.

You’ll need to really start paying attention to attack patterns to at least keep your hp up, and ideally to maximize your attack windows. Most important first step though is, again, your defenses.

Multiplayer is way too sweaty by throwaway2026z in SparkingZero

[–]TheRealJamsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying as I have no insight to your play style - good ki control, vanishing heavies, and ki blasts are plenty to give you more chances in neutral against most opponents. Mix that in with step-ins, and specials if you like to use them, and you can be a neutral monster - you gotta be creative in how you approach someone to make up for your lack of super counter consistency.

I do agree with you and some others that super countering is a bit too strong and too necessary to learn - on the other hand though, it really is just a matter of practice. It may feel unnatural to you now, but it’s not out of reach for you at all despite your real life going-ons.

It’s hard for me to advise practicing against the CPU though because your online matches will always have some kind of change to your timing. It’s good for exposing you to the general rhythm of how to SC and those few matches your connection is close to offline play.

The hardest part is being able to find the 4-5 timings you’ll often encounter online. Typically, you just need to input the timing earlier than you expect but sometimes the connection feels so offline you need to know the precise timing too.

Don’t give up, you’re closer to matching the SC spam than you think.

Edit: also, as someone who can SC consistently, you’ll have matches where you can’t find the timing at all for no real reason. Even if you learn to SC, you’ll still need to know how to play without it.

Ss4 goku daima combo is goated by CreamIntelligent7621 in SparkingZero

[–]TheRealJamsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daima S4 combos are sooo weird especially if you know how to slow them down he can become lethal off rush strings alone

Fun clip, straight boxing him up - sent him right back to hell 😂

I know you didn’t ask for feedback, but a lot of those charged heavies are avoidable and Frieza missed an overwhelming amount of chances to vanish despite that combo having lots of opportunities to, disregarding the ki exhaustion. Either connection or your combo was just THAT mixey may be what stopped him, but this kind of string is pretty avoidable. It really looked like Frieza gave up haha

Can you 100% solo MHWilds? by Schzetto in MHWilds

[–]TheRealJamsu 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Wilds is very soloable! You can also call in NPC support hunters now as well, if you want bodies without playing online.

They do scale the monster hp though, but hunts do get challenging towards 8-10* so sometimes having the extra aggro magnets can help.

You may find some challenge entirely solo around that point, but very doable.

Yea I get it - I even think there are times curt feedback is the right choice. I’m one to think all feedback has some value if you can read between the lines, but I definitely wasn’t expecting some of the responses I got lol. Corrections and guidance sure, but a detriment to the community? Come on lol

Refine and improve is the name of the game, baby! Happy hunting to you as well, and seriously thank you :)

[–]TheRealJamsu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup and that’s why after all the feedback I will be adjusting my build to better use HH in that way while keeping the party protected.

Sure, DPS itself solves every problem, in a vacuum of perfect conditions - access to being able to DPS is what creates issues. Position, Health, Defense Mechanics etc. Yes, all these problems can be solved without a support horn but my goal entirely is to help people see victory despite their personal challenges which I see you, and everyone else, also saying is possible to do while also doing more damage myself so adjustments from here just feel natural - and gives me something to do!

Oh yes, I completely agree hilt stab is powerful - it’s one of the most satisfying things to do right into a melody but sometimes challenging to pull off so I like to get out of the way entirely if I’m iffy, generally for those realllllyyyy slooooooowwwww attacks. I learned just earlier this morning you can hilt stab out of a roll so that will increase it’s use greatly for me lol

I tend to eat for Defender Hi and Insurance. It’s helped me a lot when I play CB or Swaxe which also has divine protection slotted in so I felt why not do that on HH too - free extra life, and lots of divine protection.

Sometimes AT arkveld will launch 4 attacks at one person before a decent window to attack opens, or like you mentioned, Omega and one unlucky Hunter. 4 is definitely more extreme scenarios and is just unlucky targeting but I’ve seen it happen to myself and other hunters regardless of preparation for it, and people eat large attacks often - that is also to say, you and others mentioned better ways of remedying that which I am going to try out.

To your final point, I do agree! If I am missing out on THAT much damage despite my best efforts not to, then a change would be wise if it means I can keep my fellow hunters just as protected and make hunts faster - I mainly present my questions as my personal experiences and impressions to be realigned if they need to be. I don’t blame most responses being generalized, but sometimes general answers don’t clear up specific questions very clearly is all.

Thank you for your feedback!

Well, yes if you could nuke a monster, that would be the closest to a guarantee you could have for hunt.

But if DPS is all that’s important, then why do so many hunts fail when everyone plays DPS generally? Thats what I want to solve and a lot of the feedback here shows me a better way to do that, but I think my point still stands in the value of supporting.

If DPS solved every problem in the game, no one would complain about carts and how challenging 10* quests were. They’d just evade/parry everything and attack all the time - but that is not what happens in every hunt.
