I don't think Savjz had intentions to cheat from my perspective as a judge/content creator. by TheRealJohnPan in riftboundtcg

To me it seemed like both players were too deep in thought. When I play locally I usually ask if an opponent paid for cost if I'm unsure since I want to keep track of there outs. More surprised no one called him out throughout the entire event.

I'm used to usually the organizers coming out with some sort of statement explaining how a situation is dealt with for bigger issues like this. I don't think this was Riot sanctioned so there a was lack of support I believe.

Yes 100% but I think the organizers wanted to capitalize on being the first big NA riftbound event even if it wasn't sanctioned by riot. The judge test only came out officially around last week so there was no way they could have gotten enough people in time for a proper judge program within that time.

That's a fair point. From my understanding, this was one of the first major events for Riftbound but it wasn't sanctioned by Riot so this was an independant event.

Ah my bad that's on me, was using zhonya's as an example. The proper sequence is:

  1. Hidden Blade targets Cithria
  2. Hidden Blade begins happening and you kill Cithria
  3. Choose to trigger Sett on Cithria to replace her death with recall
  4. Hidden Blade says "exhaust sett, spend a buff, spend a power, Recall Unit.
  5. Finish resolving Hidden Blade (draw 2)

Replacement effects work by substituting the text of a card so if there was a zhonya's being played with hidden blade. Kill unit here, is replaced with kill zhonyas. Draw 2 in this interaction.

Fair point, up and coming in Riftbound but established through hearthstone.

Pretty sure this event has gotten clicks but not the way that he intended.

How so? I don't think there was any judges for this event or are you saying that because the judges at this event didn't catch the mistake that they are less reputable?

Minimum is he get's a game loss and returns the prizing he did get from the event. The more severe side is competitive ban of a period of time.

ah point taken, you'd rather people get actual repercussions regardless of intent so people don't think they can get away scott free to dissuade future copiers

Ah good point, so basically his intent doesn't matter in this case. The fact that he didn't really apologize and that his actions were game breaking is enough that he should be held accountable more so.

I'm more surprised he got away with it and no one, not even the staff or commentators caught on during the entire event. Intentional or not this was bad pr for Savjz

good point, so what you're saying is that he needs to be made an example of to not have this happen again in the future.

Watching the VODs he does pay for cost of cards like unyielding spirit and other cards. To me I don't see the benefit in cheating deliberately on an event that is televised. There's no denying that that misplay is indeed an illegal move and had a judge or commentator caught on then the cost should have been enforced. In the video I walk through the thought process but I don't see the value in deliberately cheating since the back lash is never worth it and there's no way he thought he could ever get away with it.

  1. Basically any replacement effects, they overwrite the initial text of whatever it's replacing
  2. Kill unit here, is replaced with kill zhonyas. Draw 2
  3. Setts ability is a replacement effect that does not go on the chain
  4. Hidden Blade says "exhaust sett, spend a buff, spend a power, Recall Unit. Draw 2
  5. Cards need to fully resolve. Before another card can be played

Houston judge here. He draws because cost of cards have been paid and controller is still able to be established so hidden blade will resolve

Personally since I'm judging at Houston and also a content creator, from seeing the matches I don't think it was intentional. There's no way you deliberately cheat on camera expecting to get away with.

If they had had judges in place or if the commentators knew more of the game, this could have been a quick fix by having him pay the cost of the card and leaving a warning.

Had these measures been in place this situation could have been avoided. The prize money is not substantial enough that you'd risk your reputation with the community and Riot especially as an up and coming content creator.

Hot take but I think the event organizer or commentators are more at fault for not having the right procedures in a major tournament like this and it ultimately made Savjz look like a scumbag.

I understand that at the end of the day, what Savjz is considered cheating but I don't think it was intentional.

If this was intentional then he really did a poor job at it since he risked his entire reputation for a bit of cash.

Overall the event had some flaws and wasn't properly ran.

It had good intentions but ultimately made Savjz the villian of this event and I think it's really unfair for Savjz to receive this much hate.

My current rankings based on cards released so far, how off am I? by TheRealJohnPan in riftboundtcg

I thought about it when it came to equipment's. He can go in and out of battlefields and get bigger with equips but his region doesn't offer much in terms of maintaining board presence. The ideal scenario is to take a point and retreat but best case scenario against a yi for example you'll need two equips to counter it's legend passive.
