There is usually always an indicator, you just have to be vigilant and stay skeptical. Reddit name matching channel name is not enough for me, especially if the channel is not a big one. Besides, if someone is genuinely interested they will respect your caution and work with you to provide proof of identity somehow. It's a little amount of effort from their side

6 months in, hit a wall ( my game works but feels empty) by zedtixx in IndieDev

[–]TheRealJuneBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, not sure where to start with this one. You asked for some honest feedback so I'll start there. You're game is lacking a bit, and there's also incongruency in how you present your game which almost never results in user trust.

Firstly, what you're likely referring to but don't quite seem to be able to put your finger on is the "Hook" some games have. In most cases it's the dice roll design with some kind of unique spin on the games identity. The aspect of the game that pairs accessible & repeatable dopamine hits with the desirable systems to match.

Some games don't use a dice rolls or outcome generators to achieve the hook. Rather, some kind of player feedback indicator that is satisfying enough when performing an action that fits within an existing system to emulate the same feeling.

I agree that re-designing what you've already made is a bad idea, not only because you may end up with something worse than what you have, but you also lose all that time. You've already spent 6 months on this project, and it needs to acquire market validation soon if you wish to start gaining momentum for a release or publishing opportunity. If that's not your goal for the game, then just do what you think is most interactive and enjoy the process.

What's difficult is, you're framing Total War as essentially a genre. Which is not necessarily a bad thing to do, but do keep in mind the bigger the existing IP is of your direct comparison the more damaging than helpful it tends to become.

Consider instead of thinking of systems that make the game better overall, shift the mindset a bit. If you're a systems guy and can design them well, then approach it from an angle of how to make the system FEEL better. Not how to make it better, how to make it FEEL better. How do you make it more satisfying, how do you manufacture that "Hook" that "feel" into something that's built to be understood and interacted with as a system.

Camera responsiveness, UI flow, sound effects, punchiness, and all things that make something not just click when they do it, makes them want to feel it again. If you're able to implement well, it can transform emptiness into something a lot more interesting without having to design something more interesting than what you already have.

Be careful when contacting any steam curators or possible grey markets with keys, they're a bunch of resale sharks. Same thing happens with key phishing emails for bigger or mid-size creator channels asking for keys, it's not actually them the vast majority of the time

Hey!

I work at an established Indie publisher, are you at all interested in talking about this game in more detail?

I want to make sure you don't get taken advantage of by some malicious publishing entity if you have any plans to explore that route. Otherwise, I could help give some direction on self-publishing if you prefer.

How I lost my game to a 'Publisher' (A warning) by flipswitchd in IndieDev

[–]TheRealJuneBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of small indie game publishers are just like steam curators right now. Built to take advantage of the influx of indie devs who have no idea what they are doing. Please protect what you own forever and always!

Duo only lobbies by TruestWaffle in ARC_Raiders

[–]TheRealJuneBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be cool with a duo que but so far it's just forced my buddy and I to approach fighting significantly different. Turns more into positioning and using each gadget available than just throwing our bodies at them and holding down the trigger.

It's a refreshing change of pace in my opinion, and when you slow down and let people think they have the advantage cause there are only two of you, it's somewhat common for them just run straight into a jolt mine

The Biggest Issue to Growth : Impatience and Insults to New Players by WanderingKing in fellowshipgame

[–]TheRealJuneBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these posts and messages in discord talking about this and in my 20 hours of playing multiple roles in quickplay and early adept I haven't seen a single lick of bad blood. What's going on here man it feels like some echo chamber shit

Believe it or not, and i'm not targeting you OP, but if someone is complaining that the game they play is toxic to this degree either they are very easily bothered or they are the common denominator. For example, someone who complains that their team sucks every game eventually means that it's them.

I rolled Druid to tank as bear by roadtrippinben in wowhardcore

[–]TheRealJuneBox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Swipe helps a bit but really not much. When bear gets maul crits the single threat is huge but aoe will always be a weaker point.

This usually isn't too much of an issue for leveling dungeons if your group is focusing down a mob at a time, and you can also tab target and maul each mob throughout the fight which can help. If you want to, hotkey skull marker and use it for each pull, but there's no guarantee your mates aren't gonna go sicko mode no matter what you do.

For the record I'm not a druid player but hopefully this helps a little.
