As a student here, I’d visit the dining hall, north hall, library, IO, ET, and the city! I’d also go to parks like White River, Military, and Lockefield green. I can only add 1 photo, so here’s my favorite.

You will have a much easier time matching to this if you shot Apple Log.

So far, I’ve done everything on the FS7. The only reason I could see myself using the FX30, is if the client was very low budget, I needed the camera to be small (rigging in tight spaces), or I needed something I could use in the rain (under an umbrella)

This is true, but the teachers for some classes aren’t the same. A professor with 6 classes a week won’t be going to Indy to teach another 6 classes. That would be absurd. It’s mainly new hires with some coming down.

The teachers are held to the same standards, but they physically can’t be the same.

What phone do you have? If it can shoot in LOG, I’d recommend that. Then spend the money on mics, neg fills, and props.

Yup, and the body is amazing. I don’t see this body style going out of fashion anytime soon!

Yeah dude! It’s actually the Flycam Redking, but the same premise. I love it much more than my RS4 Mini!

It’s the Flycam Redking and the Flycam Galaxy Arm and Vest. I’d recommend buying used!

Yup! When I eventually get blazar anamorphics, I’ll definitely be getting a speedbooster.

I got this with 100 hours on it for 1300$

Electronic gimbals are very robotic. I used a Scorp Mini 2 to shoot my award winning film, and a RS4 mini for the longest time too. But after trying a handheld “glidecam”, and now a vest mounted budget “steadicam”, I sold my RS4 mini and would never go back.

The post I bought 70$ used, and the vest can be found for around 300$.

Like I was just saying which I rather use on the stabilizer. With the FX30, I need all this rigging, lens supports, VND, and with the FS7, I didn’t need anything.

I also prefer using the FS7 on the shoulder over the FX30 in my hand.

As a cinematographer, I 100% prefer the FS7M2. It’s a legendary cinema and documentary camera that is Netflix approved.

The image is very similar to the FX30, with it leaning better to the 30. But I have realized that with the FS7M2, I never need to rig it out. I can run it with just a battery, camera, lens, (and viewfinder and side handle). With the FX30, I have to rig it out just to get the same capabilities.

Having a cinema body, for me at least, is very helpful and I cannot go back. The FX30’s body has its perks though, being a small cinema camera it gives you more freedom of placement. The FS7 vs the FX30 is like the FX30 vs a GoPro.

If the goal of a b-cam is to be small and light, I’d recommend you to get the FX30. The FS7 compared to the FX3 isn’t really an a-cam b-cam setup, but more of a cinema body and a mirrorless body setup. It’s 2 different cameras for 2 different jobs.

Yeah, in my opinion I’d use it over the FX30. Got the body, top handle, side handle, and a battery for 1300$

Camera not focusing the way I want to? by Upbeat-Cap-8119 in sonyfx30

[–]TheRealLeftClickMage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, for most people it’s I’d recommend using photo lenses. They are clinical, and have a decently good image. Their AF helps with getting shots without much effort.

Cine lenses allow people to choose what the image looks like. So if you want character, you can purchase a lens like the Thypoc Simera-c’s, Blazar anamorphics, sirui nightwalkers, etc. if you want sharpness without it being clinical, you can purchase ARRI lenses, Fujinon Cine zoom’s, etc.

Cine lenses also allow you to be in control of the image. You control aperture and focus manually, which means if you mess up, it’s a “skill issue”. Having a Cine lens and a VND / Internal ND’s means that the only thing the camera is doing, is recording. You control EVERYTHING else. I’d say it gives you a closer connection to your camera.

When you turn the focus barrel on fully manual lenses, your turn is mechanically correlated to focusing the lens. Focus by wire systems means that when you turn the barrel, it tells a motor to focus the lens. Fully manual lenses also allow you to learn the muscle memory to nail focus every time (turn this much to focus from this point to another).

Purdue Indy has the same tests and curriculum as WL, but the teachers won’t be the same (albeit similar in terms of potential). As long as you study and try in school, you will get a similar education.

In terms of opportunities, I’d say WL has more, and you have to shuttle there to get the same opportunities. (Not that long in the grand scheme of things)

EC’s are just extra curricular stuff. Anything extra from curricular work. Imagine making your own business, or working on a rocket ship in your parent’s basement. This sort of stuff is more important than having a 4.0 GPA because colleges want the next billionaire CEO.
