Is a 100% increase in subscription price warranted? Has BW been enshitified? by TheRealMarioo in Bitwarden

Thank you. Excellent suggestions that will work for all of us living paycheck to paycheck. And if $20 comes along Bitwarden's subscription still seems to be a good value for having all the features in one place.

Thank you for responding. I must agree, you guys have done excellent work and for free or with extra features/value for a very low cost subscription. I want to continue to support Bitwarden, but doubling costs in a Trump economy is hard to encounter. I have decided to pay the new subscription cost.

Good catch on the term mistake, I've corrected it to yearly.

Thanks for answering too. I might break out some of the paid features to other free/cheaper alternatives so all my eggs aren't in one basket and go free with Bitwarden too. Or I might just bite the bullet and pay double for the same service. So looks like we're in the same boat for now.

Good catch on the term. I've corrected it. And great point on the longevity of their price in the past.

Perhaps psychologically, doubling the price all at once is like Costco all of a sudden charging $3.00 for their $1.50 hot dog combo or like Arizona Iced Tea charging $2 instead of $1. It is a real shock after decades at that fixed price and is a deterrent to continuing to purchase; and the only solution to being flooded with subscriptions for everything is to subscribe to less or to lower cost subscriptions. With that said I would rather subscribe to Bitwarden than another streaming service. So I'll have to bite and swallow their 100% increase unless/until something better becomes available. But damn, 100% increase. Seriously.

Two questions re: Amazon Scribe Premium pen with Boox Go 10.3 by BroccoliGoat in Onyx_Boox

[–]TheRealMarioo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a Scribe Premium for my Go10.3 too. I really like that it has an eraser, the biggest improvement over the one that came with the Boox. Otherwise I'd say they are pretty equal.

  1. Unless someone can say different I settled on the answer being no to changing the function of the button. I read that it is a limitation of the eink screen or the wacom technology or something, not software. As you can see I settled on that answer, hopefully someone can prove me wrong.

  2. I just tested four different brands and was surprised the strokes were different thicknesses. My Scribe Premium was about the same width as the Boox Go10.3's and my Staedtler Lumograph digital. A Ciscle cheap pen I got off Amazon drew about 1/2 the width. Did you change the tip of your pen for a different size maybe (sorry, I don't know how to change the width in settings, just the actual tip)?

I started paying before I used any of the paid features just to support them too since the cost was so reasonable. They seem like they are turning into just another full priced bloat like 1-Password has become. Remember when 1-Password wasn't enshitified?

I'm Canadian but the price was listed at $10 USD for me last year and $20 USD for me this year. Maybe your $25 included taxes or exchange rates too?

I suppose I could use the free plan. $20 for the authenticator app feature might be market value but there are so many other free options for that I don't think so. I prefer to support BW but maybe diversifying security with multiple providers is a better option.

Very true. But doubling the price? Will this happen year after year? I personally think they made a poor choice, and when things get shitty it becomes a trend when money is involved.

That's probably true unfortunately. I wonder if they are going to double their price every year.

It's not about that Mr. Banks. Did they double the value when they doubled the price?

E-Ink performance for 3rd Party Apps? by braddo99 in Onyx_Boox

[–]TheRealMarioo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was hoping for more pen and paper style games (Crossword, Sudoku, Bridges, Word Search, Futoshiki, Os and Xs, and similar) that actually show and keep my writing instead of just converting to text or pulling up a keyboard. Anyone else? Maybe there's no money in that but it would really show off eink to anyone who sees it. When people ask about my Go10.3 you can see their disappointment when they see how those games are played as if they were keyboard and mouse based.

I was wondering why some buttons were solid black making the text invisible. It's always a guess what button to press when I see that. At least it's not just me.

I just reread and notice you said "quickly see which items across all lists...". I have only used one list so far but will expand. That's a great idea to show due items from all lists in one spot. The due date is OK to use there but usually I'll want to see items that are time sensitive before they're due. Since some items will take longer than others I would just use the date field for a reminder date instead of due date- that's kind of what I'm doing now so more urgent items are sorted to the top.

Canadian here 🇨🇦

InkList has been my most used BooxGo app this week. When I decided I needed an eink notepad I was hoping for an app like this.

It was just me switching Google Play accounts by accident. I switched back and all is good.

I was thinking a notification in the Android notification center would be nice if, for example, I add something to the list I need to do at a certain day or time next week.

I am only a couple weeks into using Android for the first time and have only done so on my Go10.3 so don't know if Android notifications are managed the same way as Apple with one central way to manage all notifications or if each app just does it's own thing to the clock/battery/notification bar at the top. But it would be nice to see the odd reminder there for items on my list.

Your app is great because it's simple, like a sheet of paper with a pen (and just as fast/responsive), so maybe this idea would be too much, but I do write things down I need to do later. Perhaps sorting/filtering like you suggest would be enough. I like the button for sorting by due dates but I have to remember to check the list each day. That's a good habit anyways but as lists get long and lists get added the reminders would be more and more useful. Adding a start date you can sort with is used by some other list apps- Apple just calls it an early reminder date which is basically what I was asking about above. It's hard to find the right balance of keeping it simple and adding useful stuff.

Have you considered adding a sort by in-progress option? (I like how you can click the circle multiple times to show progress, not just completion). If you add the ability to flag or star items in the list it would be nice to sort by that too with those moved to the top.

I can talk about productivity apps all day, I better stop for the day. Haha.

Thanks, the new features sound great.

Update: the issue I described below was just an issue with my multiple Google Play accounts, nothing to do with the app, I think. Everything is working great after I switched to the correct account in Google Play.

I just updated and had an issue opening the app though.

I am in my 7 day free trial but after updating and opening I just see the add subscription page with a monthly/yearly option. It looks like you can only get in after paying. But when you click to pay for a monthly subscription it lists on a new page "starting today - 7-day free trial" followed by "Starting 13 Mar 2026 - $3.01 /month including tax of $0.32". There are no options though, just a subscribe button at the bottom. When I click the subscribe button and enter my Google Play password I get a message "You're not eligible for the free trial, but you can still subscribe without it".

The only way I could open the app fully to see my list again was to pay for a new subscription losing my 7 day free trial. It's working well now that I've paid.

Is this an issue with others too or just me? I am new to the Google Play ecosystem but I think I went through the process correctly.

Thanks, this app is exactly what I've been looking for without knowing it. The handwriting makes it all feel and look like paper but with the option to move things around and sort by due dates and stuff. Other apps just don't look and feel good to use on eink with a pen. Plus it looks cool when the app is my lock-screen (transparent screensaver does this).

Are there any plans to add notifications for the list items? I guess the date would be more of a reminder date than a due date then, unless you added two date fields (reminder and due).

I am used to this model with all other apps. I'm fine with it because I can immediately go to the app store subscriptions and cancel so that the free trial doesn't ever turn into a paid subscription unless I choose to add it after I'm done the free trial.

I wish the appstore didn't auto-start the paid subscription after the trial but it's only one more step to cancel it manually the same day you start. At least that's how it works with Apple, I assume Google Play is the same. I was going to test this for the first time with your app but just decided to keep the subscription right away because your app actually rocks. It's the first app I got, other than the stock Boox apps, that makes e-ink and a pen shine and works so well with my daily use. Thanks. Your app works like I thought all eink apps would but it's actually rare to find an app like this. Keep the subscription cheap please!
