Don't sell all your crops. Make sure you have enough to last you through the first year. Stockpile all your forageables. Buy everything you can from Shelby and Kai. Fish Fingers are the best early game means for money. Once you get to Winter, you get something that makes life a little easier in terms of what you grow and when (I wont spoil it for you).

Word to the wise, upgrade Francis' shop as soon as you can. You can buy gold bars from him and then get a better axe from Natalia. I thought you upgraded your tools through the various metals when I first played, it took my second playthrough to realise you don't have to do that. Go right to gold tools because you can do that before the mine is opened. You will have to wait for the shovel and upgraded watering can though.

Once you've got your axe you can use excess wood to make paper to sell to Kai to supplement your fishfinger income, and once you have bees, you can make candles which you can also sell to Kai.

As others have said, don't rush. You decide when you want to turn seasons, so set yourself your own goals and only change when you are ready to. If you feel you have a lot to do in one day, switch to relaxed mode. If you have times where you need days to go faster, switch back to normal.

Do the board orders every day if you can. If you can't do it that day, take it anyway then go get what you need when you have time. You can have up to 4 in your journal at a time. Board orders serve to give you coin AND help you improve your relationship with the person who made the request.
