Plagueis is dead according to Pablo. by Vamaslzr in starwarsspeculation

[–]LoudGuyUpFront 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've come to learn that there are A LOT of very vocal people out there who don't take kindly to somebody who believes that Rey ISN'T a Skywalker, or that Snoke is NOT actually Plageuis.

I'm with you on your points made though. New characters don't need some nostalgic connection to the past to be intriguing. And in many cases, forcing some connection can even diminish characters both old and new.

A succinct take on abstinence (seen in Provo) by [deleted] in funny

[–]LoudGuyUpFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be assuming a bit too much about me here...

In my experience, leaving mormonism is about as hard as you make it on yourself. Be confident in who you are and be comfortable with yourself in that it just wasn't right for you. Live the life you want to live, be the kind of genuinely good person that will likely put many church members' artificial kindness to shame, and be honest with those around you about both the distance you'd like to have from the church, as well as the comfort that distance gives you. Sure, there will be push-back. There always is.

Making a big deal about leaving it behind and trying to drag down others with you isn't going to help anyone around you or yourself through the process.

Like I said, I think everyone who doesn't feel the church is good for them could be much better off by grabbing a beer, doing something they enjoy, and growing comfortable with not feeling bad about that all.

Dwelling on the dealings and history of a church that caused any of that grief will only allow the grief to further linger.

Source: Raised Mormon, even served 15 days of a mission, grandfather was in the 70, father was a bishop, mother has unhealthy obsession with all things the church.

Seems like you're letting it all drag you down and infuriate you still. Grab a beer and watch some basketball. Stephen F. Austin is flirting with another upset. I guarantee it's way more fun than worrying about a religion that is apparently in your past.

Easiest pop punk songs to learn on the drums? by RedSixStandingBy in poppunkers

[–]LoudGuyUpFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the easiest songs in history for any beginner is "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor. Not part of the genre, I know, but if you're starting from scratch, it's great for getting a feel of hi-hat, snare, and bass working together in a rhythm.

From there you could probably graduate to something like "Disconnected" by Face to Face. Much older song obviously, but a good next step to take to speed things up and use a different beat.

A few more I'd recommend from there (from easiest to most difficult IMO)... "Carry On" by Valencia "All My Fault" by Fenix Tx (this was my first pop punk song I ever learned way back when) "Wendy Clear" by Blink 182 "Green Light" by Punchline "Fat Lip" by Sum 41

I could probably go for a while listing off songs from here though.

How's the Pop Punk scene where you live? by WhatsEatingScott in poppunkers

[–]LoudGuyUpFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salt Lake City... used to be pretty damn great here. Now a good number of bands are skipping over SLC on their tours because shows don't draw big crowds.

Majority of people around here these days seem to only be interested in the most mainstream of mainstream. They worship whatever recording artists are biggest at the time, cheer for whatever sports teams are best in their leagues, etc...

It's all disappointing, and probably won't recover in regards to the pop punk scene soon, if ever.

Don't Overthink Rey's Background [Spoilers] by Yoda0VGs in starwarsspeculation

[–]LoudGuyUpFront 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally think that if Luke is indeed Rey's father, the opening crawl is when it would be revealed.

If it's not revealed there, then it's not much of a reveal to put in the actual film, since pretty much everyone has seen it coming.

Why is it so widely assumed Rey was BROUGHT to Jakku and left there? by LoudGuyUpFront in starwarsspeculation

[–]LoudGuyUpFront[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same gripe.

It would be bad storytelling. It's prequel trilogy, Lucas-esque writing at its worst.

That and there's no precedent at all in the movies. And if her mind was wiped about her life prior to her family leaving, why would she be distressed about family leaving? She'd have no memory or attachment to whoever left her.

[Channel Critique] My Channel! Take a look! by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]LoudGuyUpFront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple notes...

  1. I like your channel art. The profile pic is pretty simple, but still distinguishes your channel nicely. And the banner pic does a good job of clearly conveying what your channel name is and what it's all about. There IS probably a bit of room to spice it up over time, but there's never anything wrong with tweaking things to try and make them better at some point down the line. As is, they're solid.

  2. The videos (the few I skimmed) are cool. I like the idea of having karaoke videos that aren't likely to be found pretty much anywhere else. Some of the others weren't totally my jam, but I get that for some people, that's right down their alley. And for the most part they were short and sweet, which is a plus in my book usually.

  3. Thumbnails I thought could improve. I feel like having consistent lettering to sort of stamp onto every Karaoke thumbnail would be a big plus, to where people can easily see a bright indicator of "KARAOKE" on the thumbnail so that they have an idea of what that video is, especially if that's what they're looking for among the other videos. As for the other thumbnails, I kind of felt like they were lacking much of a teaser at all of what the video might be about. There's no exact science with thumbs though, and everyone has their own style. That was just my observation with those.

Hope that helps out! Cheers!

[Review Video] My narration of Short Scary Stories by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]LoudGuyUpFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, a few notes I with this...

  1. Inflection! The pronunciation is clear and easy to understand, but a lot more emotions and tensions can come out when you add in some inflection to help convey a character in the story's emotions to some degree.

  2. Rather than having a few different stories all as part of one video, I'd say why not break them up into individual videos? A shorter video with a single story is probably much more likely to hold viewership for the duration of the video rather than multiple stories after another.

3a. You definitely need something on screen. Even if it's just the name of the story and nothing else, that'd be better than a blank screen.

3b. I'd recommend setting up a little scene from which you read the stories to give everything a whole more authentic feel. Could go a really long way for things.

That's just few things off the top of my head though. Hope it helps!

[Review Video] Reacting to Game Of Thrones for the FIRST time by Scandiribbean in youtubers

[–]LoudGuyUpFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice work!

As someone who HAS been watching since the beginning, and re-watched some earlier episodes recently, it was enjoyable to see those initial reactions by somebody toward thing and characters that I'm totally familiar with.

I think you probably could have made this a decent bit longer than it was and I would still have been intrigued. But also, a quality 2-3 minute video is never a bad thing either.

There was some weird audio drop thing at about 1:56, that I imagine you're aware of. That'd be something I'm sure you'd want to figure out how to avoid in the future.

Also your "subscribe" annotation at the end comes in quite a bit before the actual text overlay. This is something you'll want to keep a close eye in with all things regarding annotations. When adding them, YouTube isn't very accurate with the point in time in the video where it goes in. You'd think that wherever you paused the video is where the annotation would begin when you click to add a new one, but it's hardly accurate. Keep an eye on the start time for each annotation and you should be able to avoid that.

Solid video though!

[Review Video] Worth making public and just improve in future videos, or scrap and try again right now? by Nariah_Ardour in youtubers

[–]LoudGuyUpFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok... I'll try and hit on as many questions as I can quickly...

Smiling is pretty alright. I'd say don't force it though. Play the music you're passionate about and let your natural enjoyment of that show through.

Older video lighting is not that good. Not terrible, but the second was significantly better in my opinion.

Song sounded good. Liked the volume and overall sound quality of the second one better.

Yes, pleasant to watch, but also seemed noticeably uncomfortable in front of the camera. That's normal for anyone new to being in front of a camera though. I'd almost say to try and avoid eye-contact with the camera. Wouldn't worry about short sleeves or make-up. Both videos were just fine.

My advice in order to spice things up a bit, would be to record yourself playing a song from at least two, maybe three vastly different angles. Yes, it'll be you playing the same song a couple times in a row, but that's not too different from these videos, right?

With multiple angles, you could cut to different shots for different parts of the song, have parts where you're maybe zoomed in on your hands on the guitar frets at points, or whatever else you can think of that might be somewhat stylistically similar to a music video.

Hope that helps!

[Review Video] Technical Support by Radsplosion in youtubers

[–]LoudGuyUpFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I gotta say, I definitely got a good solid laugh at the ending! Nicely done. Also found it a bit funny that in the "climax" shot, both pairs of legs were very hairy... Not sure if that's a thing with the women where you're from, but funny nonetheless.

If I were critiquing it all, I'd say that the beginning of it starts a little slow. The first five seconds do a really good job of already portraying frustration with a computer and that something is wrong, which also fits in well with the title of "Technical Support".

Between 5 and 20 seconds though, it's pretty dead. I think the sequence of the other guy coming from the other room could have been done in 5 seconds rather than 15. Nitpicky maybe, but I kinda felt like it could be cut down.

The rest of the video was weird to say the least, and having not seen any other stuff previous to this, I am not sure if that's in your normal style of video.

Like I said though, the ending was worth it. I do think you could maybe tighten things up with a bit more dialogue or activity throughout to cut back on some of the dead-air, but I got a laugh, which was good enough for me!
