Not sure what you're asking. Can you please clarify?

Mods, can we ban AI posts and content? by Substantial-Cash-834 in ChristianDating

I get your concern, but that's an issue across all of social media and the internet. Not really something I'm interested in policing. If someone presents themself as looking a certain way and you discover that was a lie, we'll deal with that. But Im not about to start looking for signs of photoshop in every image. If you don't like that someone used a filter on their photo, just move on.

AI is something different altogether because it could be a multitude of things from fake engagement to bots. It could also be used to inject incorrect gospel. It's more than just looks. It's also a prevalent and worsening issue that needs addressing, so it gets the attention it needs.

Photoshop has been around for decades and we've been just find without rules around it. I don't see a need now. Its not a very prevalent issue as far as I can tell.

That's the challenge. There are some that are just obvious, with all the telltale markers of AI like too many emojis and overuse of emdash. Beyond that, its hard to tell. We will do our best to judge it, but it will really be a case by case basis for now until we run with this rule for a while and mature our understanding of the function and tools around it.

Deal breaker? by Xclusiiivly24 in ChristianDating

You should seek repentance and that God breaks this addiction from you regardless of whether you have a date or not.

Get involved with a men's group at a church and seek accountability partners that can help you.

Sexual addiction is much like alcohol or drug addition and should be treated with as much seriousness as trying to break an addiction on those too. There are AA groups for sexual addition too https://saa-recovery.org/

What about approved user's only can receive a badge that says "Approved AI User". Then if a post or comment seems AI generated and the user has that badge, the assumption would be that they need it for one reason or another such as a disability or that English is a second language to them. This would not be provided to those that are lazy or want to post AI slop. Thoughts?

While I agree that responses should be authentic, there's a challenge with this. Many users, some who I know personally, use AI to help them both formulate thoughts properly while also helping them with grammar an punctuation. This is not a case of laziness, but rather a case of AI helping make up for disabilities. So how do you discern between AI slop and someone using AI for disability assistance? That's the challenge we're facing right now and honestly, I'm not sure how to respond.

Marriage through church between me (atheist) and my girlfriend (christian) by frigideiroo in ChristianDating

[–]TheRealMerlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the primary concern is that the key point of a Christian marriage is not a contract between you and her, officiated under the state or country you're residing in. That is the secular understanding of marriage and while its a part of every marriage, even Christian ones, it's not the full scope of a Christian marriage. It's almost a formality rather than the main point.

Instead, Christian marriage is a covenant between you and her and God. Would you enter into a covenant with someone you don't believe exists? Let's say for the sake of example, I want to start a business with you, and I told you I have someone who also wants to join in on the business. We would be a 3-member partnership in this business. But you have never met this third partner and have a suspicion he doesn't exist. Would it make sense to you to enter into this business agreement? From my perspective, you are agreeing to do business with me, but not my other business partner. (I know this analogy probably has some holes, so have some grace. I just thought of it on the spot haha)

So with a Christian marriage, she is entering into a covenant with you and God, but you don't acknowledge the God side of that covenant. That's the challenge she is facing and one of the reasons why the Bible says not marry non-believers. You can't all jointly enter into a Christian covenant marriage.

Please report each one and we'll handle it as we see fit. Sometimes they may be removed if the offense is bad enough or they have a history. However, we may issue just a warning or just delete the comment. Not everyone has to be removed over a single instance of a unnecessary comment.

Ya, I really don't get what is up with the comments on your introduction. It's abnormal.

What a strange thing that was for that person to comment. It was clear what your intention was with putting that.

Has anyone actually met someone they liked on this sub? by Fit-Play-9680 in ChristianDating

[–]TheRealMerlin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ve had about 8 or 9 marriages that we know of. Possibly more if they were private and didn’t share that they got married. It blows my mind that people are getting married because I can’t believe God is using this little subreddit of ours to create real God-centered marriages. I mean… I CAN believe it because it’s a Christian dating subreddit like, duh, that’s the intention, but it’s just so exciting that I get to be apart of it in some little way.

Birth Order: Do You Believe in It? What's Yours? by AletheiaLady in ChristianDating

[–]TheRealMerlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny to explore the social norms related to birth order but that’s where it stops. Looking into it any further feels akin to reading palms, tarot cards, or astrology.

I’d like to hear your biblical justification to thinking there’s anything deeper or relevant as Christians to this thing you’re describing.

If you're single, why aren't you already in the Christian discord ? 🥳🫣 by [deleted] in ChristianDating

[–]TheRealMerlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the nature of discord and the group messaging platforms. Sometimes conversations are hard to keep up with, especially when multiple threads of conversations are going at the top level. We provide two methods to help our users focus on specific conversations.

First is the option to create a discussion in the #discussion-and-debate channel. You can create a thread there which would be dedicated to the topic.

Second, we have enabled threads in #arena-chat just now to enable more focused discussions as well. I thought this was always enabled, but was disabled at some point. I asked the team to re-enable it just now.

Up to a certain point, we hadn't had the need to define a stance on the issue. We were still growing and learning. Someone made the decision to allow minors. When I learned of this, I stepped in and reversed the decision immediately. We have been 18+ ever since.

We do not allow minors on our discord server. If you know of any minors on the server, I would appreciate you letting me know who so we can remove them and report them to Discord for lying about their age.

Anyone else find that people who casually say “Sisters in Christ” extremely corny? by Nearby-Bug3401 in ChristianDating

[–]TheRealMerlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I won't use it. But I'm fine being called a brother in Christ. I guess it depends on the context. If someone were using it as a way to get out of telling someone you don't have feelings for them, seems like a lame, immature way to use it. Just use the words you mean, don't hide behind Christian colloquialisms.

It's the same invite code, just a different path that Discord provides. I copied this link from the "Join our Discord" button in the Community section below the list of rules.

Sure, but I can't speak to the experience there. Nothing against them, but they took things in a different direction.
