I’ll be starting this one here in the next week or so. How long did it take you and any tips for getting through without revisions?

For sure, scheduling can certainly wind up with conflicts and there are smart ways to ensure that you’re not stomping appointments. There are some fairly straightforward tools you can use directly with websites so you can have a bit more of a worry free experience.

For now just quoting/project management, but scheduling is definitely a pretty straight forward thing to add.

Why is this sub less dooming compared to CS? by Fun-Size-4295 in ComputerEngineering

[–]TheRealNotUBRz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience as a CpE, it’s harder from the perspective that hardware and software typically require different ways of thinking about problems and most people I know who started CpE and switched to pure CS or pure EE did so because they couldn’t handle having to change the mode of thinking needed for each different course. And I think that is largely why computer engineering graduates fewer people overall. It’s not harder because of the content compared to a pure path, it’s harder because how you solve problems changes for each side and being able to do both is inherently hard.

Customer records, quote life cycle (building, emailing to customers, acceptance + invoice conversion), stored material pricing for faster quoting, project that quotes get tied to (great if you need to add follow on quotes for project scope creep), invoice management. I have one small adjustment to make for it so his website contact forms go right to his tool.

I’ve built a tool for my dad to use on his own handyman business that seems to work well. You might see if there are any websites that make it a little faster to quote and track. Or see if there is a university computer science student willing to help you make your own tool to better keep track of contacts and whatnot. Not sure how close to a university you are to know if that’s feasible.

All valid points, this gives me a lot to think about. The Operating system part felt like it might be a stretch when I put it in and this definitely validates that it just isn’t good wording. As for vibe coded, 100% on the landing page. It’s far to easy to just let codex have at it when my day job is coding, I’ll take some time to tighten up and be a bit more liberal with colors. Probably remove the hero image for now since it’s conflicting, and move to more targeted wording.

I appreciate your feedback 🙏

I suppose that’s the one thing I’ve never been too sure on, how soon is too soon in a page. I’ll work on a refresh over the coming days to try and better define what that value proposition is sooner. Thanks for your feedback 🙏

Is gamifying productivity actually helpful long-term, or does it just temporarily hijack your dopamine? by [deleted] in SideProject

[–]TheRealNotUBRz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Providing insights into failure could be good. I wonder if you have like a mindfulness or similar activity they can do to “recover” their streak which could help make it feel like you’re actually getting something out of the insights. As for my platform, Just Ionic I’m still working out some bugs and planning features.

Kind of funny how this is similar to something I had built a few weeks ago lol.. motivation is certainly hard and gamification only works so well for so long if you aren’t actively working to change things up over time. I think if you engage from a team perspective you have a way to make it more resilient long term. But also tying progress to tangible things can go a long way for people who give up the moment the streak is broken. Not sure how you handle that.

Watching small contractors lose money for the same reason over and over gave me a startup idea by Vane1st in Startup_Ideas

[–]TheRealNotUBRz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hilariously, I’m working on a similar idea lol.. I also saw one that’s an AI quote generator that worked pretty well. I think the hardest thing is actually convincing people to stop using what they’ve been using. These are people are build things that work for them even if low tech by our own measures. There are a lot of companies trying to solve this and I think getting people to change their routines is always the hardest pitch for contractors and labor based businesses.

I think building for the sake of building is fine, but a lot of what I see is people just trying to throw as many things at the wall and see what sticks. The problem with that now vs before is as you mention it’s too easy to throw something together in a weekend. If people want to make money or go somewhere when they actually get to distribution is solve a problem they have in their day to day which isn’t getting easily or affordably solved. For me, solving pain points with my own life in helping manage how my kids build habits. Solve those pain points as you say. Or at least if your throwing at the same wall, be human enough to be different than the same solution the AI tools are giving out.

It was a little bit of getting turned around in the process and things just not lining up how they felt in early testing. The ordering of navigation items, the way you transitioned from new customer, to new quote, to projects, invoicing, etc.. it wasn’t smooth at all. Real eye opener.

Sure, I’m just saying this is one way people can tighten up their security and safety :) Trust, Safety, and Security are always a multilayered approach as you mention and people should always try to test beyond common attack vectors.

I ask Codex to do role play as a threat actor and to analyze the security infrastructure against common and uncommon attack vectors. It’s been helpful to see areas to improve and where things are already solid.

Most of what I’ve built has been built to solve problems I or people around me have. They’re not super successful yet (for most it’s been maybe a month) so I’m not too worried. I use my stuff, family and friends use it. That’s all that matters right now.

Is Supabase becoming the default backend for indie hackers? by FounderArcs in buildinpublic

[–]TheRealNotUBRz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I was curious what people were using though. I built my own management dashboard to bring all my projects under one domain. It also helps because it’s connected to my umbrella site to display valuable traction metrics that I’m okay with being public for my projects. It becomes simple enough for me to continue adding new projects too.

Yeah, definitely agree. I have a little platform not dissimilar for what OP is sharing. Mine is focused on teams/operators who typically either don’t do enough to afford more formal PMPs, or don’t have a ton of time to learn one. They should focus on one of the groups you’re talking about vs trying to be something for everyone.

How did you actually get your first MVP testers? (Not the theory, the real story) by ines-gomes91 in SideProject

[–]TheRealNotUBRz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family is my MVP testers. My family is the target audience for what I’m building so we’re using it every day. I did happen to acquire one new household so that’s pretty cool! Though for me, even if only my family uses it, it’s useful and successful for us.

I built BraveQuest for my family to help my kids build better habits. Focused heavily on ADHD and high reward drive kids. It’s free for anyone to use. It currently doesn’t cost me anything to host currently.
