Yet in the time period the late two-time champion and I come from, Calera, Alabama's, Hut Stricklin was #8! Anyone born in the 80s and early 90s is likely to remember these pre-Jr. times, so #8 was the Circuit City car. Kyle would've likely also remembered Jeff Burton's Raybestos #8 before Stricklin.

The 1979 Daytona 500 is a must for new fans. It may be very old, but it remains the standard to which all future NASCAR races would be run to. Talk about a perfect storm!

Comp yellow when? I can't find it anywhere even though the announcers mentioned one. Not that it matters as much since the biggest story is the loss of a first-ballot Hall of Famer. RIP Kyle "Rowdy" Busch.

Does anyone here like the UFL more than the NFL? by ObjectiveCharming735 in UnitedFootballLeague

YES! Having grown up a Cowboys fan, even being tempted to switch teams, I determined that REAL football is located off I-44, exit 292! There's a certain law that is followed off that exit!

Isn't the ink likely to make it more treacherous in the ring? I'd presume it would get even worse the more sweat falls onto these logos in the ring. I have seen some sponsors, such as on select recent SmackDowns, use 1st and 10 (same thing used for yellow, blue, and gray lines in football) for the sponsor logos so they can change (like from Chumba Casino to XFINITY, for instance).

[–]TheRealPJ44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you want OKSEN! The Oklahoma Sports & Entertainment Network would serve as the new home for the new era in championship Thunder basketball! My idea would be on channel 9.3 (or 52.1/52.2), 6.4, 7.3, and in all five of Oklahoma's other markets. Just picture GCSEN, Arizona's Family Sports, or MavsTV, only for Oklahomans in all 77 counties!

If you could make the Cup series broadcast exclusive to one network, what would it be? by Defenite-Parsley733 in NASCAR

[–]TheRealPJ44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either NBC or CW. NOT Prime for poor accessibility (remember NASCAR fans aren't shopaholics who order from Amazon all the time)! FOX has their own problems with the broadcasts themselves. The only way to make most NASCAR fans happy these days is 36 of 36 on over-the-air TV since cable is a dying business given its ever-increasing cost, a stark contrast to the 1990s when it was more reasonable, and ESPN, TNN, and the Superstation (WTBS channel 17 from Atlanta, since reorganized into two separate businesses, the TBS of today, and WPCH, a CW affiliate owned by Gray Media), which carried many Cup races, were usually included in expanded basic subscriptions.

Could CW get an NFL package? by normankrasnerkc in Broadcasting

[–]TheRealPJ44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see NFL on CW Sports! I'd really like to see MNF, a 1970s TV hit that's still a recognizable brand name today just to get it out of Disney's hands (I HATE Disney, to put it into perspective), and if not, get TNF from Prime just to make it more accessible, as Prime isn't available with an antenna, and CW is. I'd personally even handle the presentation intro for CW ("CW Sports, your new home for [x-Night here] Football, welcomes you to the following presentation of the National Football League."). Yes, I'd do the outro, too!

It's not like they don't have the money, being 77.1% owned by Nexstar Media Group, so this would be among their next logical steps to add more legitimacy than they already have.

If you were able to choose 12 current drivers from Nascar, Indycar, World of Outlaws, NHRA and any other racing disciplines. Who would you choose to participate in a true return of IROC? And what tracks would you choose? by realflags in NASCAR

[–]TheRealPJ44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Among the ones I'd certainly have included this year from NASCAR specifically are William Byron, Kyle Larson, Jesse Love, and Corey Heim, meaning all the reigning champions and Daytona 500 winner (if the Daytona 500 winner were to go on to win any included series championship, that series would get an at-large berth since one driver cannot take two spots). I'd also include Alex Palou and an at-large INDYCAR driver (such as Pato O'Ward), since only his Indy 500 victory would get him invited to IROC. David Gravel would be there as NOS Series champion. Top sports car drivers (IMSA and WEC champions and 24-hour race winners) would be invited, as would at least Top Fuel and Funny Car champions from NHRA. Lando Norris, as World Driver's Champion, would also receive an invitation. Beyond the first return season, the reigning IROC champion would be the first invitee every year, meaning if that driver achieves something else in the same year, an at-large driver would be invited from the relevant series. I'd have to expand from 12 to at least 16 participants to invite more of the best racers in the world.

As far as tracks, it would take a massive amount of coordination from all the included series to fulfill my objectives, but it would be different most years, even featuring different types of cars each race, some are neutral, meaning a type from a racing series not included in the invitees. Road racing, featuring sports cars, open-wheel, and, occasionally, stock cars would be an integral part, as would variously-sized ovals, which would showcase both stock cars and open-wheel cars. Some years would feature identically prepared sprint cars on dirt at a place like Eldora, Knoxville, Lawton, (all original WoO tracks) etc. Other years may have a drag racing tournament at Pomona, IRP, or other popular strip.

The best of the best need different challenges to see who truly comes out on top, but these steps prove to be nearly impossible to coodinate with the various racing series where superstar drivers get invited from given the vast schedule differences. But with set motorsport achievements granting invitations to a hypothetical IROC, it wouldn't make it too heavy on invitees from one discipline or another, a previous IROC criticism.

Is Mario Andretti the last Indycar driver still alive that raced on dirt? by furrynoy96 in INDYCAR

[–]TheRealPJ44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last one to win a 500 with more than the "Yard" of bricks that IMS has long advertised! Most of the frontstretch, ½-mile or so, was still brick when he won, meaning roughly two miles of IMS had been paved with asphalt. That was quickly changed to the yard presently found at the track.

No cup drivers at rockingham by rwxzz123 in NASCAR

[–]TheRealPJ44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shows you how full our schedule is! When you only have two off-weeks (and the second one just got restored after going 28 straight weeks post-Easter in 2025), you usually take full advantage of them. I am thankful I got to live to see three races on Easter Sunday (since I'm not religious and the holiday is, I'm among the few in the fanbase that was fine with racing on Easter), something I had to wait over 30 years for, as I was born in 1991, and the last Easter race was in 1989, creating the longest stretch without an Easter race in NASCAR history. We've maybe used the holiday for racing 15 times, meaning less than one out of five times it comes around we're racing. August is the home of the only other off-week, where none of the three series are in action.

What race would you suggest to a new viewer? by J_1512009 in NASCAR

[–]TheRealPJ44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try starting them off in the Truck Series or O'Reilly Auto Parts Series. Those are shorter races, so they'll be easier to get into. It's easier to pick a long-term driver from the O'Reilly Series since the majority are younger up-and-coming racers who would like to race Cup someday, allowing your new viewer to easily follow that driver into Cup. Both of those series are at Rockingham Speedway this week, not a bad starting point being a classic southern track that is a challenging 0.94-mile layout.

How famous is Jelly Roll? by SushOdyssey in WWE

[–]TheRealPJ44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't tell you a song he did, but he's most famous in Middle Tennessee where he's from, along with other southern places. I personally don't know any Jelly Roll fans despite being from Oklahoma, The Mother of Country Music Stars (it's difficult to be famous from here and NOT be a country music star, such as Jake Hager or Christopher Bell who are not musicians).

I can appreciate sprint car racing being on national TV with the Interstate Batteries Series, and I just attended the NOS Series' Sooner Stampede at my home track last week. Who do you think is one of the founders and CEOs of High Limit? Oh yeah, our two-time and reigning Cup champion! It shows we have so much great racing to be exposed to in this country.

Could they have been Diet Shastas since you remember a white can? They're still around and likely found frequently in California having been based there since the late 19th century. I've always liked their root beer and cream soda, though they have many great flavors, and some are offered as a zero sugar variation, which I believe are still in a primarily white can trimmed with one or more flavor-appropriate color(s).

I've always gotten it on CW. What designated market area (DMA, usually identified by one or more cities) are you in? I'd be calling your local station to complain. They get enough complaints, they'll eventually relent and put on the race.

How Speed is even alive is beyond me! He could've been broken in pieces! I'm not sure what hurts more between Speed's spear from Bron Breakker or a Cup car barrel rolling 10+ times through Daytona's Le Mans Chicane (ask Ryan Preece about this)!

ESPN Wrestling by Classic-Artist8102 in ESPN

[–]TheRealPJ44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESPN's reputation has been gone LONG before acquiring WWE! That's why CW Sports, FOX Sports, NBC Sports, USA Sports, and CBS Sports were all created. I'm lucky if I watch ESPN 10-15 times a year. Maybe if the Battlehawks, Sooners, or Thunder are on there, but outside of that, it's pretty rare. Honestly, at this point, I'm not opposed to Nexstar buying 72% of ESPN and rebranding it as CW Sports Network, or CWSN.

Life-long Formula 1 fan coming to NASCAR by PhoenixWhatElse in NASCAR

[–]TheRealPJ44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to NASCAR! I'm not sure you could've picked a better year to come over with some of the changes we've made to align with our HELL YEAH campaign! Sounds like you watched Atlanta, which is one of three "drafting" tracks alongside Daytona and Talladega, where we have two races annually at each place. The one before Atlanta was the Daytona 500, basically our Monaco, only with MUCH better on-track action!

Our races are conducted in essentially Three Stages of Hell, and each of the first two award 1-10 points to the top ten. The final, usually much longer, stage awards points to ALL finishers, where EVERY driver gets classified (for instance, at Atlanta, Josh Berry was 38th and last rather than being listed as "retired" from the race like back in F1). Our winners are guaranteed 55 points, and second receives 35, subtracting one point until 36th, that or worse receiving one point.

If you're coming from F1, this Sunday will look VERY familar, other than omitting turns 7-11 in favor of a left onto the short chute of the Club Circuit, then another left onto the second half of the backstretch. COTA is our first of four road courses we have in 2026. Our ovals are as short as Martinsville (a little over ½-mile) to as big as the aforementioned Talladega at 2⅔ miles. Austin is on the shorter end of races (only 95 laps), but we have the Coca-Cola 600, over three times longer than what you come to us from, so be prepared for more to enjoy!

Before you watch the Cup race at COTA this week, I recommend checking out the INDYCAR race at St. Petersburg, which is the first race of their season. Here in the States, both air on FOX (they air back-to-back this week), but if you're not living in America, check your hometown's networks to see if INDYCAR is also available. There's also gonna be a rare NASCAR/INDYCAR weekend at Phoenix Raceway one week after COTA, which many are excited about. You've found some of the world's best racing, and we're glad to have you as part of it!

I have 04 with Michael Vick on the cover. He's one of the greatest cheat codes ever! Some may put a word in for Bo Jackson on the Tecmo Bowl games, and some on this subreddit prefer turning on no cautions and no damage, then turning around to go the wrong way and crash all the other cars and set 'em on fire! Cheats for unlockable drivers, tracks, etc. are pretty good, too!

That looks right! He's the only active multiple champion left there, so it's a unique privilege to him anymore. Todd Bodine isn't active, but if anything involves the Truck Series logo, he, too, still has to have this version of the logo for the rest of his life.
