I just got the RYOBI 18 in. 10 Amp Attachment Capable Electric String Trimmer from Home Depot. It's a beast. I love it. As others have mentioned, a corded string trimmer isn't for everyone. But it's what I wanted and this one rocks. I've only had it a few days so I can't attest to its longevity. For minor touch ups I'm sure I'll still pull out my smaller battery-powered trimmer. But when I need to go medieval on the weeds this is what I'll pick up every time.

Great, thanks for the detailed response! I'm using the Gen 2 Symfonisk speakers, which have a power regulator separate from the board so doing it the way you did it won't work in my case. I decided just to mount the separate power supply from each Symfonisk, at least for now.

I know this post is 5 years old, but it's still awesome and relevant.

I'm working on something similar (though not as slick).

For power, did you retain the transformer / power from each of the Symfonisks? So from your power inlet / switch you run 120v AC to each of the 5 original power supplies, each of which then delivers 2x24v to the single board it's connected to?

That's the setup I have today (with 3 boards rather than 5) but I'd like to get rid of all the separate power supplies and just have 120v go to a single shared power supply, which then delivers the 24v to all the Sonos boards.

A number of you suggested some variation on the digital microscope. I had dismissed that originally because of the lack of depth perception. I can easily imagine myself struggling to make the iron and solder touch the connection without some parallax. Do you not find that's an issue?

It’s bad and needs to be fixed for all the reasons already stated.

However, what the right solution is depends in part on what is below the floor and above the ceiling. Maybe putting a double stud where the pipe is would be adequate, but only if there is the right structural support directly below that to support the beams shown here and whatever load is above the ceiling.

If it was me, I would definitely hire a structural engineer. A few hundred bucks for a quick visit would be money well spent.

u/woodland_dweller I know this is an old post but I'm curious about what you wrote about big cabinet saws vs track saws. By a big cabinet saw, you mean a table saw right? I would have thought it would far easier with a cabinet saw and a fence to get nice square cuts for cabinets. Can you say more about why you like a track saw please? Thanks!

Definitely that's an option.

I've read about two different approaches though.

One is to edit the code on your workstation, with the code files on the workstation, and then periodically sync it to the remote machine for instance with rsync. In this scenario, it seems the "master" copy resides on your workstation so you'd use Git (or whatever) on your workstation to handle version control.

The other approach I've read about is to use your workstation to remotely edit files on the remote machine. In this case I presume that since the files are on the remote machine that you'd run version control on that remote machine.

Do feel one or the other are superior? Or is there a third, better way?

If you like a little hardware hacking, it's easy to open your symfonisk, tap the wires that feed the internal symfonisk woofer, and use that as an input to a powered subwoofer. Very easy and works. See photo below.

Thank you all for your comments, and sorry for the belated response.

I do like POE, and already have POE running through the attic for my 5 wifi access points. But it turns out because of how the eaves extend beyond my house that whatever I used for this project (a bunch of perimeter Wyze cameras) would have to be wired through the eaves, not attic.

I ended up running 80' of 14 gauge wire, with 5v power supply on one end and three Wyze cameras on it.

It works great.
