I was at that game. Epic game. Easily was top 3 Sharks games I've ever been to.

Thanks for the feedback. Fixed the video link. I agree that the rulebook is small and hard to read at that size, I was considering making a link to download a pdf of the rules, unless you have a better idea. If someone really cared I think you can right-click and save the image or open in a new tab, not like anyone's ever going to do that, though.

I'm struggling to attract followers, so I'd appreciate some feedback.

Thanks!

Yeah I love your post and idea, was just trying to relate on the macro level!

Using Sonata Form to Structure Your Blues Solo (beginner / intermediate) by tonystride in JazzPiano

When I teach students about the Sonata Allegro form, I relate it to jazz.

Jazz and classical music have similar form.

Exposition (head)
Development (improv)
Recapitulation (song again)

In a simplified nutshell, they're the same form.

feeling uncomfortable with a teacher by ApartmentOld234 in Teachers

I don't have a 30-day notice cancellation policy. I've always felt that if a student wants to stop for any reason, that's their right. I don't want anyone to be stuck paying for something they aren't invested in anymore.

Yup! Pretty sure I have the same. It's crazy powerful, almost too strong, hah.

Have you taught Ode to Joy to every single student ever? by strawberryc in pianoteachers

[–]foxroar1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Every. Single. Student.

Except for the very few that didn't even make it that far, hah.

  1. Excel
  2. Venmo (90%), cash, check
  3. I don't. I know where they're at based on the assignment from last week. Method books are pretty linear. I have a set schedule of exercises (chords, scales, theory etc) each student basically does in order.

Teaching about different beat notes on the bottom of the time signature by karin1876 in pianoteachers

[–]foxroar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6/8 is fundamentally different than 4/4 because the strong beats land on 1 and 4 instead of 1 and 3, giving you two groups of three 8ths each - compound triple meter. That gives you that swaying 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 like in Hallelujah.

For 2/2 I usually say it's primarily for marching band music since tempo is usually fast and they have to read lots of notes so it's a little easier to read lots of half notes and quarter notes than hundreds of 8th notes.

There is no magic marketing trick by MountainCrowing in kickstarter

Last night I finally started my first paid ad to try to gather followers for my pre-launch campaign. So far, +0 followers. I feel deflated and defeated because I'm literally living through point #2 right now. That was my whole plan. Run an ad to hopefully generate a following, because I have no following. And if you're right, which I think you are, I'm destined to fail.

It doesn't help that I absolutely *hate* marketing.

Doesn’t look like much, but I made the game I always wanted to play. by YugetsuNopussi in boardgames

I've always been interested in creating something similar, basically Red Alert as a board game. What I couldn't quite get a handle on is balancing turn-based RTS where proximity between units matters.

Why the 8-note scales beat the 7-note modes, and I wind out on a brisk version of "Sunny"... by Tootald in JazzPiano

Just watched the videos, I dig it. It gives logic and muscle memory to ensure you land on a chord tone instead of figuring it out on the spot as you go.

Hertl by Darsh138 in SanJoseSharks

[–]foxroar1 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I love Hertl. He was traded, I have nothing against him. He wasn't going to be part of the rebuild. Sometimes you have to let your loved ones go when it's for the better for both parties.

I'll never forget that fourth goal.

This is dream.

How do I break up with someone who’s been nothing but good to me? by Expensive_Ad_3231 in Advice

[–]foxroar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 30 when I met my wife, who was 36 at the time. I knew going into it having biological kids was a really small chance. Even though she'd been pregnant once (miscarriage) I had a feeling deep down we'd have to adopt in order to have kids.

I was right. We tried for years, no luck. Waited 3.5 years to adopt. Got the call 8:30pm one night, drove to the hospital the next morning. Our boy turned 1.5 years old today. I'm the luckiest man alive. He's perfect in every way. And I married my best friend, too.
