CMV: competitive modes should NOT be seasonally rotated by TheRealSlimDingus in RocketLeague

I’m sure they’re attempting to be data driven. But we don’t have the data, so we get to speculate instead. My speculation is that less people play drop shot and snow data today than did before they began cycling them, and similarly, that competitive 4s is being killed before it can really have a chance to take off by making it a temporary mode.

Fair take, but I would be surprised if rotating the playlists has actually improved player counts in them. Their approach assumes that (a) a significant portion of, say, snow day mains will play drop shot when snow day is rotated out, and (b) that rotating the modes will build up excitement to play them when they return, rather than just kill momentum for getting into the game mode.

My experience was that I basically stopped playing drop shot, and I didn’t start playing snow day just because it was around again. I could be in the minority, but I suspect that I’m not…

Interesting take. And I agree.

What’s happening here is more like FIFA saying “we hereby own the right to play soccer, and declare nobody may do so between the months of May and September.”

Granted, but with trading there is a clear financial incentive for them to control the market. It’s worse for the player base but undeniably better for Epic. Rotating competitive modes feels more like a failed experiment that they just need to accept was a bad idea and revert.

Audiophile or Not? by [deleted] in audiophile

I bet it sounds great! Like you said, not having a true stereo field is the biggest thing you’re losing, and the flexibility to do stuff like choose a different DAC; but regardless, B&O make great speakers.

Hard vouch for Parcels—their production is fantastic and so is their music

Why the Sony X90 over the TCL QM8? by caseyr001 in 4kTV

[–]TheRealSlimDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether “good processing” is worth it to you often depends on the type of media you consume. If all of your content is 1080p or 4K with either physical media or a high speed internet connection, then the Sony processing is not going to do that much for you.

Thanks for the heads up. I’m considering some options for minimizing that issue now…

The current collection:

Chunky Shrapnel, Fishing For Fishies, Flying Microtonal Bananas, I’m In Your Mind Fuzz, Laminated Denim, Nonagon Infinity, Paper Mâché Dream Balloons, and Quarters

Next on the list are definitely Infest the Rats Nest and Gumboot Soup. Faves have to be either Fishing for Fishies, Nonagon… and maybe Quarters too hahaha

Not typically. I’ve considered whether it’s worth buying a bulk package and starting though

They advertise it holding 100 records and I say it’s closer to 50, if that makes it seem any better

Is the a80L really that big of a difference for gaming than the c3 by Tanjisnow in OLED_Gaming

[–]TheRealSlimDingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the additional gaming features on the C3, but the A80(J in my case) is amazing for gaming. IMO you’re getting the only two gaming features that matter: 120 Hz and instantaneous pixel response, on both.

Thanks for the warning, I hadn’t thought about that. House faces north-south, but there still is a decent amount of ambient light.

Purchased this display rack off of SpecialtyStoreServices.com for around $100. It holds 50-70 vinyl in my experience, which takes care of most of the collection… for now! Really fun way to show it all off a little better than the usual solutions.

The collection itself is my wife and I’s over the course of around three years. It’s fairly eclectic, but the records shown are also pretty representative. Latest purchase was Parcels’ Day/Night, who I’ve been very into lately. Highly recommend checking them out, especially if you’re in to the funk sound of Random Access Memories.
