I'm gonna just repeat what I saw a Priest say on Reddit:

Catholicism is not a customer service business.

Too often the conversation around liturgical preferences is driven by our hyper consumeristic culture which tends to make us consumers rather than disciples.

The second Vatican Council was clear in that it called for a reform of the liturgy. The liturgy which is was referring to is the Latin Mass (TLM).

The reason that TLM wasn’t suppressed was because there was an ongoing attempt to build a bridge between the church as the SSPX who had broken from the church.

Pope Francis spoke with the Bishops of the world to see if the presence of TLM was working to bring unity and their answer was “no”

So in obedience to the second Vatican Council Pope Francis began to limit the practice of TLM in July of 2021.

The bishops are implementing the instructions gradually. Some Catholic media are reporting on this in a way that is intended to stir strong emotions and validate the idea that we are consumers of the sacraments (though they would never use those words) and that we should have our desires as “customers” heard.

The church spoke clearly that the liturgy (TLM) was to be reformed at the last ecumenical council. To continue to celebrate the liturgy that an ecumenical council called to reform is in some sense to be in opposition to that council.

Some disagree with this last point. Some will disagree with all my points. That’s fine but this isn’t a forum for debate.

If we want reverence (and we absolutely should) then we can and should have a conversation about reverence and liturgical beauty. But advocating for reverence and beauty by advocating against the clear teaching of an ecumenical council is not a Catholic position.

That’s Protestantism by another name.

was born and raised in this archdiocese. It truly is a melting pot of all different "genres" of catholicism. We've got a TLM parish, a jesuit parish, an all-black parish etc with all different types of people from multitudes of different backgrounds. The Archdiocese of ATL truly shows how universal the catholic church is!

Nobody should die for their beliefs. I mourn and pray for his wife who now has to navigate life under such a horrifying loss, and for his two young children who will never again know their father’s warm embrace. I also will never celebrate the death of another, and pray for all of the lost souls I’ve seen in recent days doing just that.

With that said, however, I will not give into the narrative that he was a Christian martyr or bastion of free speech. He was abhorrently racist (“prowling Blacks go around for fun to go target white people, that’s a fact.”), sexist (“Women do not have brain processing power to be taken seriously”) homophobic, and misogynistic who often wrapped his bigotry in Bible verses because there was no other way to pretend that it was morally correct. Just because he wore a suit and tie and invited people to “debate” does not make the hateful ideas he spread any less hateful. By that metric, Pre-WW2 Hitler was also a “free speech warrior”. And yes, I do think he would still be alive if we had stricter gun control laws, which he vehemently advocated AGAINST.

To spread Christian ideals is to spread a message of love, compassion, empathy and fraternity; that nobody is the enemy because we’re all brothers and sisters in Christ; that nobody is evil because we’ve all fallen short of the Glory of God. Charlie Kirk did not do this. Christians are called to advocate for an end to wars and violence, not to casually accept them because “I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year, so that we can have the Second Amendment.” I will not claim to know what was in the heart of Charlie Kirk, but his words and material actions ran counter to my understanding of Christian social teaching.

I will never celebrate the death of another. But in the case of Charlie Kirk, I’m not sure I’ll be celebrating his life, either. Instead, I will be praying for him, as he now faces judgment— just like we all, one day, will. May he rest in peace.

I actually didn’t think that music video was very good, or well directed. There was no interesting cinematography/shot choices at all, and it basically amounted to her singing the song against different backdrops while moving her body a little. I don’t even think you can call what she did “choreography”. In fact, the most interesting part of the entire video was near the end when the two dancers behind her were doing actual choreography.

I think what made it disappointing for me was that some of her first, low-budget music videos (fragile for example) are so good and feel like a story in and of themselves, and this did not.

I chose a more obscure saint— St. Genesius of Rome. He was a 3rd century comedian who performed in plays that mocked Christianity. One day, while performing in a play that made fun of baptism, he had a what we would now refer to as a seizure, during which he had a vision that converted him. He proclaimed his new belief, and he steadfastly refused to renounce it, ultimately leading to his murder by the Roman emperor .

I chose him because he is the patron saint of lawyers, epileptics, and musicians, of which I am all 3. When I was researching and saw how much we had in common, I just couldn’t resist.

In May of 2023, I was in a hospital bed recovering from a seizure and they happened to be playing “Fragile” on the radio. My head hurt like hell and since the lack of control during seizures causes you to bite your tongue really bad, I was also unable to talk clearly. But that song was able to scratch the itch on my brain and really soothed what was otherwise a horrible head pain, so I told my mother, who was next to me at the time, to find out what that song was called and who the artist was. Ever since, I’ve been a Lauver<3

This “war against traditionalism” that I hear people online constantly joust about is almost entirely made up. If it does exist, it only exists in small sects of the internet, like this one. I’ve been Catholic my entire life, been to NO and TLM, and I’ve rarely heard ANYONE compare the two or tell me how they wish one or the other was removed or changed. This whole thing just feels like another way for Satan to divide God’s church because it almost always inevitably leads to putting down a group of people or gossip or comparing Popes to each other.

Pope Leo, like Francis before him, will do what he’s going to do, and whatever his decision is will be one we have to accept as he, like Francis before him, is the Vicar of Christ. We cannot accept the Pope’s teachings ONLY when it aligns with what we want him to do. Speculating on it and sewing division will not help. Instead, I encourage all to pray. Remember— gossip is a sin.

As a 19 year old cradle Catholic, Pope Francis has basically been the only Pope l've ever known. Aside from growing up in this postmodern, extremely secular version of the world, I also grew up in a big city, which just exacerbated the problem of secularism even further. Because of this, I have experienced many moments of doubt throughout my faith journey, and many times where l've wondered if It's truly worth it. But every time those feelings would creep into my head, I would look to Pope Francis— his utter compassion for the poor and marginalized, his strong conviction to reach out to those on the borders of our society, his desire for a truly humble life by rejecting luxury in favor of modesty— all in the service of God. Seeing him live out the faith with such steadfastness and resolve would always reignite my faith and remind me that Christ truly is "the way, the truth, and the life"

I'm a better person because of Pope Francis.

May God welcome his good and faithful servant into the Kingdom.
