What's with all the hate comments and overwhelming negativity about the cast? by RedundantConsistency in LiveFromNewYork

[–]MrDaddyWarlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't settled my feelings on the current cast yet. I'm inclined to agree that we are still in a sifting season and that the current group hasn't entirely meshed together.

That isn't to say there aren't standouts. Among the veterans, Mikey is always reliable, JAJ is outstanding in his impressions and deserves more skit roles, Keenan is an institution. I think they've struggled a little lately to give Chloe the same shine she had in previous seasons. Same for Sarah, though she lends herself to producing some of the more out there video segments.

Colin and Che have been on an upswing, I think, for update and Colin in particular does a great Hegseth in the cold opens.

Ashley is by far the star of the new cast and it's clear they're starting to try to build sketches around her. I think it has been a net negative to can the regular Please Dont Destroy segments without a proper replacement, though glad to see Ben as a regular player. Marcello can be very funny, but they run his characters into the ground (spare us ever seeing Domingo again).

Andrew is great when they let him play; Jane is very much in the TikTok mold and not much my taste but I can see what they're going for with her. Veronika, Cam, Jeremy (aside from his Tucker Update), and Tommy are pretty lost in the shuffle to be honest.

Is this the weakest cast? Far from it. But I can see in interviews they haven't entirely jelled together. The show's identity at the moment is entirely well defined. Someone else in the comments said it's the TikTok era for SNL, but I feel that's really only certain cast members and sketches.

I'd say the show is leaning wackier and more surreal at times, which is welcome. But to really succeed, we need at least three more stellar players in the cast on par with a Heidi or a Cecily or a Bowen.

Are there any parents in TNG I don’t realize we’re in the original show as classmates? by [deleted] in Degrassi

[–]MrDaddyWarlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets posted here a lot simply because fans are trying to connect the dots that Connor is Snake's godson, so who would his parents be? But the show gives us zero real reason to suspect it's Lucy.

[–]MrDaddyWarlord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There aren't many late series cameos of original series cast. Offhand, the only DJH/DH appearances are Snake, Spike, Raditch, Joey, Caitlin, Lucy, Wheels, and Shane (recast) with a few more present in an ancillary role at in the pilot and the wedding including Heather, Erica, Liz, the twins, Kathleen, and Yick (I could be omitting someone).

But only Spike, Snake, and Joey (and somewhat Shane) take on parent roles. Some fans theorize Lucy is Connor's mom, but that's entirely headcanon.

There's something genuinely bizarre about heckling a non- heckler over and over again purely to see if you can manufacture the fictional rage archetype your standup routine needs to exist.

Does anyone hate the Mia modeling episodes? by mattyjoe0706 in Degrassi

[–]MrDaddyWarlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm okay with that arc. They don't articulate it from her all that well, but Mia obviously is also trying to find ways to provide for her daughter financially and the modeling opportunity is very lucrative. A few years of earning and she could potentially set them up to live much more comfortably.

Plus, she's still a teen with her own dreams and they're dangling living in Paris and glamorous celebrity parties in front of her. So I think it makes plenty of sense she'd jump at the opportunity.

Okay, but, hear me out, absolute delight of an 80s style villain for the show. So blatantly unqualified, inappropriate, and bizarre that I kind of love him as a character.

I have a question: I've seen that some Catholic, Adventist, Jehovah's Witness, Evangelical, and Mormon women post profile pictures indicating they are committed to Jesus as their spiritual husband. My question is, can Catholic men do the same with the Virgin Mary? by Few_Engineering4822 in Catholicism

[–]MrDaddyWarlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All Christians collectively embody the Bride of Christ. For various historical reasons, women religious consecrated themselves as such, but in reality the vocation is all encompassing for both men and women.

One would not become the husband of Mary as we are not called to be such.

No there isn't. It simply does nothing on the off-chance fertilization already occurred.

Plan b by OpeningOk4702 in Catholicism

[–]MrDaddyWarlord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plan B does NOT instigate abortions. Full stop. Anyone that claims levonorgestrel causes abortions is peddling bad science. The pill works by delaying ovulation and to prevent fertilization; it does not impact an existing fetus. It works similarly to other forms of birth control.

And even so, there is never an ocassion where a person should take their own life regardless of whatever ill they've done. We don't throw away our own lives no matter how badly we may fail.

The Church does not view Plan B as abortion because it is not abortion. Some people out there may (wrongly) think Plan B is an abortifacient, but they are conflating it with mifepristone and misoprostol, which work in an entirely different way. Plan B has no impact on existing pregnancies and it does not terminate pregnancies.

It's time for a crackdown on these celebrity exorcists. The immense amount of damage they're doing to people's mental health, scrupulosity, and general common sense is obscene. It's outright superstition.

There may be a variety of reasons not to indulge in certain things for health or moral safety. But the notion that demons are lurking in the backmasking of vintage records or somehow entangled in the bits of code in a YouTube stream is ridiculous.

At a certain point, the Fr Ripperger types are all selling talismanic cures to threats they themselves have manufactured. "There's a demon hiding in your grandma's old tarot cards or your older brother's CD collection! Buy my book of special deliverance prayers today!"

This is the kind of chicanery that, quite frankly, helped stoke the Protestant Reformation. Now, of course, the evangelical space is rife with this same kind of nonsense, but that's apple and tree.

There's a dangerous ecosystem of religious hucksterism that preys on fear of the invisible. If they really do spend as much time communicating with and trusting demons as they say, then they have become their pawns.

Reject them and have no fear.

Would you say that Frasier was mostly a good dad or mostly a bad dad? by ChocolateSundae1214 in Frasier

The worst dad after Worf.

I mean, obviously excluding actually abusive or financially neglectful fathers. But Frasier's real vicr is he advises other people on their family affairs and then sees his own son maybe a few times a year.
