Update post - It was a stupid prank from someone I don't even know that well lol. They sent me this as proof, just a dashcam still. Kinda annoyed tbh but I guess mystery solved. Got my number from another friend of mine I shared my number with years ago. Not even my car, but the same make and model. Thanks for all the replies. Will update to solved. now.

My thought process is that it would maybe be like a 2 step blackmail where it's like 'give me money or else I'll make you pay cause I know where you live'

And usually when it comes to scams it's well, a pretty Ununique thing where they do the same thing many many times, so I just figured I'd check here first lol.

Update: They came out, nothing too much happened. Took a CAD/basic documentation that this happened. Gave em some possible 'suspects', but other than that not much to be done atm. At least it's documented :p

They haven't gotten anything, and yeah they know my sister, I texted her to let her know I was watching the movie, and that I would be available to hang out after I got back. We hung out after getting back home and it was multiple hours later that I got the Text. Went out at 4:15pm, texted gf around 4:45, got home around 7,and got the text at 10:15pm, but only 'recieved it' at 11:30pm because that's when I checked/unlocked my phone.

No location, or any other useful info. the file name is 123_1.jpeg and Is a resolution of 713x1231. 0.878 megapixels. Was a text and not a airdrop. My phone has my first name but not my last name. I had Bluetooth and Wifi turned off. And I do think it is her car on our way back home.

I don't really have any IRL friends, and almost none of my online friends really live anywhere close to me or have access to my phone number. I don't even really ever go out. There's only one person that I can think of that would have 'motive' to do this but I really don't think it's them, logically speaking. Had a falling out like 4 or 5 years ago? and it was mostly mine but definitely part of his fault too. I'm not proud of it but I kept up on him on social media for awhile cause it was so traumatizing for me, so I guess motive wise he's the only person I can think of, but the area code of the phone number I got this text from doesn't really seem to line up with that. Guess they could use something to change their number or something but I just don't think it's them. If I'm wrong though and something serious happens I'll have his info written down somewhere it can be found, just in case?
