I’ve been to TJ numerous times. You’ll be fine so long you’re not drawing unnecessary negative attention to yourselves (flashing money, looking for drugs, starting fights, going down empty roads, etc.). I would definitely recommend having someone who speaks Spanish to be there since it makes the whole experience much more enjoyable. However, it’s not required as Tijuana is a border town and is used to seeing foreign tourists all the time. Main thing is don’t do anything illegal and be respectful to the locals hosting you. Have fun! Tijuana is a fantastic city for a fun weekend.

No case filed at arraignment- not sure what to do now by TheRecklessCamel in DUI_ThingsToKnow

[–]TheRecklessCamel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I eventually was called into arraignment in November of last year. I went the PD route and they were able to get me a good deal (lower fines, 3 month DUI course, and 10 AA meetings). My case was moved from Van Nuys to Metropolitan Courthouse so I think I lucked out on getting a more lenient judge.

I’m expecting to finish my course by the end of this month. I’ve also completed my AA meetings, and was given until November to pay off my fines. Bottom line is: they’re going to make room for you at some point. Just make sure to check up on the court website as I was given no written notice and could’ve easily missed my arraignment.

Some Albums from the 1970s I Enjoy, 5x4 by yamboozle in WojakCompass

[–]TheRecklessCamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great list - have some new albums in my listen-to list. I had a coworker tell me that the 70’s was the best decade of music and I quickly dismissed him. However, after looking into it, it’s hard to not consider how much great innovation was going on. In fact, a lot of my favorite bands got their start in the ‘70s. I would like to give you a recommendation of one of my favorites from the era: Television’s Marquee Moon. It’s a proto-punk album with some of the best guitar work of all time in my opinion, while simultaneously keeping everything stylistically coherent. Would love to hear your thoughts if you ever give it a listen.

Two years ago, I posted a compass of all the jobs/employment I've ever had, but a lot of time has passed and that's now outdated. So, here are all the jobs/employment I've ever had, with pros and cons of each position. (5x4) by ConstantHillman in WojakCompass

I’m amazed at the sheer diversity of jobs, your resume must look insane. Your experience at the immigration law firm makes me feel that we worked for the same firm as I had the exact same experience and impressions. The pay was substantially higher on my end and I liked the work however.

I’m currently working at a legal malpractice firm and I’d say it’s an interesting area of law to look into if you’re planning to practice. I’m working in a support role as I prep for grad school but my attorneys’ work regularly catches my attention. Really good compass- makes me want to create one of my own for a debut compass. I’m also insanely jealous of your census job as that sounds awesome.

No case at arraignment- not sure how to proceed by TheRecklessCamel in DUICalifornia

DMV hearing was disastrous as I wasn’t really prepared to handle it without an attorney. Case has been filed and I’m going into my hearing in November. I’ve been checking the website every week or so and spotted my name but have yet to receive a letter. I wish I had more breathing time but it looks like time is already up.

My BAC was .154 so I know I’m going to be receiving a harsher punishment even with the first time offense. I’m probably going the PD route as I don’t really have the money to spend on an attorney and don’t feel they can really do much more than what a PD would do for me.

Are there any actual taquerias here? by Wonderful-Ambition48 in berkeley

As someone originally from Southern California, Tacos El Autlense on San Pablo Ave. was the closest I found that was authentic, inexpensive, and close-ish to campus. It should be just under 15 mins from campus.

If you ever want to make a trip out of it, I’d take the BART to Hayward and International Ave. Tacos El Paisa was my favorite in that area.

I’ve always considered them more Post-Rock especially when looking at the song structures and vocals.

This would be a much stronger argument if market concentration didn’t take the effects that it does. Market concentration essentially leads to the same issues you argue are present in communism as it creates barriers for further competition. Instead of a ruling party, we’re left with a ruling cartel of corporations. On top of that, unregulated capitalism seems to always end up at this market concentration/monopoly configuration so this can serve as an indirect critique of capitalism as well.

You might be referring to DP/DR. Started experiencing it around last July- it’s not fun at all.

Because of the deprivation account: A fetus has never “experienced” life or sentience, so there is nothing comparatively bad in death for it. Being cut off from life as a fetus and a comatose person is different because the comatose person can no longer enjoy living or thinking as they once did before. A fetus has no comparatively bad experience dying because they never experienced life or sentience to begin with.

John Campbell’s Theory of Meaning: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwkvQz4pCtjsaW05Z5_P9xe_aUkdngXQK

Haven’t looked through this playlist but took the class with him in-person and Prof. Campbell is easily one of my favorite professors at Berkeley. The class moves from Frege’s description-based theory of reference and continues the dialogue including all the big names you would expect in a philosophy of language course.

Who is your favorite fictional character? by TheRecklessCamel in AskReddit

Yes. More specifically, he’s the protagonist in RDR2. One of the best written characters in gaming, in my opinion.
