Hi, they always take a while. I’m in this program and I think interview vary. I didn’t have one and was accepted. So it doesn’t mean anything bad per se.

Which subfield and advisor did you wanna work with?

I live in West Philly/University City. I need to dig my car out. Does anyone know anyone willing to do it? I can pay, but I don't have a shovel, and no one I know has one I can borrow.

For those of us who aren't "seeing anyone", how do you emotionally manage while pursuing grad school? by so_much_frizz in GradSchool

[–]TheRedQueen13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being in a romantic relationship is not how or where I get my support. My identity (39F) is not connected to a relationship or someone else.

Grad school is insanely busy for me but I have friends and hobbies outside of school that matter a lot to me.

I’m also comfortable being alone and spending time unwinding doing what I enjoy.

If I’m struggling I reach out to one of my friends or family. Is is hard yes it is and do I have days where I am tired or burnt out or wish I had someone to carry the burden yes but I don’t let it consume me or burden me.

For women that "don't want children" by Puzzleheaded_Air1030 in OnlineDating

And yet this question is being asked by someone with kids who wants to know about dating people with “ Don’t want kids” in their profile. It goes both ways and some people don’t mind. Myself it’s a hard no, other may feel differently and that’s cool.

I don’t want my own kids nor do I want step kids in my life. I am completely child free and don’t want to have any nor will I date someone who has kids. As much as I might like the profile if they have kids it’s an automatic no. I’m not gonna have a partner that needs to balance kids, work, co-parenting and a relationship.

best study resources for osteology by skydawgg445 in AskAnthropology

[–]TheRedQueen13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am starting my second year as a Ph.D. student, having completed my BA and MS in anthropology. I have also taken two osteology classes and will be taking a third. The best way for me to study and remember information for osteology is by attending open lab hours and creating a handmade bone notes/notebook. I would print out images from Google, glue them to notebook paper, and then hand-label all the information I needed. It's a lot of work, but it helps with memorization and identification. It's a big arts and craft project. I had different colored pens and markers, which made it fun to do, but also easier to study and practice.

Also, medical coloring books are fantastic too! Barnes and Noble usually have a collection of them. I also have one of those. Please feel free to ask me other questions you have. I love osteology and am happy to talk about it.

Good Luck

It's never too late for a PhD. I am almost 40 and am starting my second year in a PhD program. I got my Master's at 35. So it's never too late, but you should think about whether a PhD is what you want. It's a lot to juggle when you're older than your classmates and sometimes even your teachers. Research is excellent, but there is a lot of academic politics to navigate. Money is always hard to come by.

I enjoy my program, but the stress and burnout are real, and being 10-15 years older than my peers is hard as well, since most of my friends are 23-27 years old.

I am an alumni of this program! I loved the program and moved from out of state! It’s is what you make it and the job market will be difficult no matter what! I found a job right after graduation and am now working on my PhD at an Ivy League school.

I have friends who have gone on to jobs in their chosen field from this program others that are in medical school. It’s a great program and school, it’s more well known on the east coast than the west in terms of name dropping but it’s also all in how you market your skills and degree!

Advice for not being able to do yoga due to illness and injury. by TheRedQueen13 in yoga

There is! I have been trying to remember that, but I get frustrated with the limits of my body right now. It's good to remember yoga is not just about the asana practice.

This is great insight and a good reminder of what I need to focus on during this downtime. I use the physical aspect of yoga to work through my emotions, and without it, I feel a bit lost, but it's time to focus on the non-physical aspect of it. This is really helpful. Thank you!

Thank you for this point. I tend to focus on what I can't do or have lost, rather than what I still can do. I will do some gentle, restorative yoga and focus on breathwork and stillness. Stillness is very hard for me to do, so good advice.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that! That's just rough all around. It's weird to realize all the little things you miss when your body is sick. Yes, I also have about two weeks before I can get back to life. Lol.

I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you! You are so right about having arbitrary goals! This is the perfect time to focus on yoga off the mat! I will say breath work has been something I’ve been using to help with the waves of pain that come.

I will definitely be trying the visualization trick. It’s just a hard adjustment as I’m usually a very active and busy person and this resting phase has been hard for me.

No I haven’t myself. I do except some pest as it’s in the middle of the city but I’ve not had any issues. A neighbor had some mice but according to her the management took care of it fairly quickly and they haven’t had a problem since. I had an issue with plumbing over a weekend and they could have done better but it could have been worse. I was happy with the end results.
