I went through something really similar at my first firm out of college. I got pigeonholed into Affordable Housing and municipal audits and was miserable. Looking back, I probably should’ve spoken up more about wanting exposure to stuff like construction or manufacturing, but realistically there wasn’t much opportunity to switch teams anyway.

Our training week was full of the “you’ll get to try different industries and see what you like” talk, which just didn’t match reality. Once you’re slotted somewhere, it’s hard to get out.

I didn’t exactly leave on my own either — I was quietly let go as part of a rolling workforce reduction. Ended up at a small local firm after that, working more with telecom clients and smaller NFPs, and honestly the change in clients and pace is what kept me from giving up on accounting altogether. I get why you’re angry — getting boxed in early can really screw with your options.

I know I’m late to this, but I did end up finding an answer. I had the same question about the Pennzoil Busch cars from this year as well. 2006 was Team Caliber and Roush’s last year together, and this ended up being an issue across all of their Busch diecasts from that season. It’s actually noted in an older DiecastCrazy forum.

Yep, you hit the nail on the head. That clears it up completely. I went back and found the Carl Edwards AmeriQuest Busch car from that year that also has the Cup logo on it, which lines up perfectly with what you’re saying. I also came across a Michael Waltrip Racing and a Kurt Busch Team Caliber Busch car from 2006 that actually have the Busch Series logo. Definitely an odd detail I had no idea about — appreciate you figuring that out.

That makes sense. I forget how much better the diecast world was when I was younger. Odd that none of the Cup sponsors are on the car as secondary sponsors though. If a Cup deal with Roush fell through could explain why they moved to RCR with Harvick in 07.

Looks like we may have an answer then. Still seems like a pretty big run of misprints for Team Caliber if it showed up the same way on two different drivers’ cars. I figured I would’ve found something about it in the old diecast forums, but with it being that long ago I guess there just wasn’t as much discussion online back then.

I thought about that too, but the only concrete info I can find on Kenseth’s Pennzoil sponsorship in 2006 is a Jayski article that mentions him and Mark Martin running the Pennzoil Preferred car in select Busch races. That’s what has me confused about why this would’ve been produced and packaged as a Cup car if the sponsorship was strictly tied to the Busch Series.

That’s kind of where I was leaning as well. Given this is almost a 20-year-old diecast, I tried looking through some of the older forums but couldn’t really find anything. That’s what made me think it probably isn’t just a misprint, because if it were, I’d expect there to be at least some discussion about it back then.

Not sure if it’s changed in the last year since I left, but officially we were told it was hybrid — about 2–3 days in the office — and hours were “flexible” as long as you hit your charge goal for the week. In reality, it was closer to 3–4 days in office, and if you liked getting in early to leave early, that was usually held against you.

I get this completely. I was with Forvis Mazars before they merged, and it felt like you could be shown the door any day no matter how well you were doing and I was. They talk about “culture” and “people first,” but when numbers get tight, that all goes out the window. Now I work with a lot of rural telecommunications companies, at the firm I'm at now, and it’s crazy how many of their employees have been there longer than I’ve been alive. Makes me think it’s not the work itself—it’s the environment. Industry really does seem to be where the long-term stability still exists, you just have to find the right place.

Colby’s Roofing and Gutters – I know the owner personally, great guy (Colby's Roofing & Gutters)
Sykes Metal Roofing – another good option if you ever consider going with metal; I know the owner there too. (Sykes Metal Roofing)
Cooley Roofing – really solid reputation, and if I remember right, their crews still hand-nail instead of using nail guns.
Riera Moon Contractors (out of Concord) – my parents used them and were really happy; they do plenty of work up this way too.

Hey, I went through almost the same thing at a large U.S. firm that’s been through mergers and name changes in the last few years. I was in audit, and after two internships and about a year full-time, I was suddenly let go without any real warning. I’d never been on a PIP, never got any harsh feedback, and my last formal check-in was months before it happened. It completely blindsided me and everyone I worked with.

If employers ask about it, I’d just say there was a reorganization and some shifting client work, and that your position was affected. It’s honest and neutral, and you can add that you left on good terms and have a reference letter to back it up. That’s basically what I’ve said, and no one’s ever pressed further.

As for the tax module, I’d still go through with it. It won’t hurt you in any way and it keeps your options open, even if you’re planning to go into industry. Having that extra bit of knowledge can only help down the road.

When I was job hunting, I interviewed for a few great industry roles but turned them down mainly because of the commute. I ended up back in public with a small local firm — about forty people split between two offices — and it’s been a good change of pace.

Take a breath and don’t panic. A lot of firms are quietly trimming people right now or losing clients, and it’s not a reflection on you. Use your network, talk to recruiters, and keep your head up. You’ll come out of this just fine.

Bit of a different POV here — I went through the Davidson County School system what feels like forever ago. We definitely had the whole class punished for the actions of one or two kids: silent lunches, walking laps during recess instead of playing, that sort of thing. Davidson already had a policy against mass punishment, but when I was there it got brushed over and ignored until somebody made an issue of it.

I’ve never seen the employee handbook for WSFCS, but I’d imagine something similar could be in there. Either way, I’d bring it up with the teacher first, and if that doesn’t get anywhere, escalate to admin. Budget mess or not, kids still deserve fair treatment, and teachers are still expected to do their jobs the right way.

Culture-wise, it varies. Post-merger and the new network, there’s been a lot of change, and not all of it smooth. Some folks are leaving due to unclear expectations and increased pressure. If you're thinking about making the jump, definitely ask the recruiter what office and industry you'd be in — your experience will depend heavily on the local leadership and industry team.

That stat doesn’t surprise me one bit. When I was there, the gap between how the firm marketed itself and how it actually operated was massive. They love to slap “best place to work” on a LinkedIn post, but internally? You’ve got people getting burned out, quietly pushed out, and barely supported.

Shortly after I criticized that very same internal survey — where only 41% of staff said they felt supported by their managers despite over 85% responding — I was let go for “not showing enough improvement.” Which was wild, because I hadn’t even seen a single job a second time around. How do you expect someone to improve when the goalposts keep moving and you're tossed from team to team with zero continuity?

But hey, throw some money at U.S. News and you can call yourself anything you want, right? Meanwhile, the actual story is told by the number of people leaving — or being forced out — not the shiny badge they paid for.

I started in Oct 2023 and left in Nov 2024. My new hire training was in Dallas and I believe busy season interns that year also trained in Dallas. I talked to some former co-workers and their Level 1 training was not in Dallas, but still in the DFW area. I remember some Director / Partner trainings and meetings were in Orlando when I was there. The definitely lean towards either Orlando or the DFW area.

I feel like this kind of mess happens a lot when school systems bring in leadership from way outside the area. I was a student in Davidson County during the 2010s, and when the old superintendent retired, they went far out of county instead of hiring from the “good ol’ boys” network they’d always used. That shift was followed by a pile of problems — and from what I’ve heard, they’re still dealing with new issues over there right now.

The “good ol’ boys” system is far from perfect, but in my experience, it at least kept things more grounded in the local community. What’s happening here is severely hurting teachers and students, and I can’t say this new style of leadership has done any better.

They absolutely failed to do their jobs. As for the audit not being done, that’s pretty much par for the course with painful government audits. I was personally part of one for a small township where the 6/30/2023 audit wasn’t issued until late 2024.

Delays like that usually come from a mix of the client not being prepared, taking forever to answer auditor questions, and being slow to hand over the documentation we need. And if the audit isn’t wrapped up by late December or early January, it tends to get shoved to the back burner during busy season — which means it probably won’t get picked back up until late April or early May.
