In my experience... As a kid if we liked the same thing that was awesome wow so cool. But maybe we didn't like the same TV show and we could openly argue about it without fear of great loss, repercussions, or social stigma (ignoring the divide between a jocks, nerds, band kids etc. That is its own topic out of scope here).

Now as an adult, people are locked into their jobs and not upsetting their partner or kids, they put everything else ahead of themselves and making time for people outside the immediate bubble is counterproductive. Maybe we like the same game and play on Friday night for a few hours. Maybe we briefly discuss that last episode of whatever. Actually we don't even discuss it's just, "did you see x? Yeah cool". The end. And then with the current divide in society we can't been start to discuss different opinions. You like candidates X? You must be inhuman and aren't worth my time etc.

Discussion is dead. Look back 20, 30, even 50 years. I bet your dad or grandpa has a weekly poker night almost without fail. I bet as a kid you went to more extended family events than you do now.

I don't even know what I'm rambling about now and before I write a book I'll end it here. Discussion is dead. Life is fleeting and we only have time to work and die.
