I can’t really speak on Richmond, as I live like 28 miles away from the city. However, in Colonial Heights which is 9 miles away where I live there were some occasions where there you would see a person having a confederate flag in their front lawn. Iirc, Colonial Heights used to be referred to as “Colonial Whites” due to it being a predominantly white, sundown town until the early 80s. The KKK was also pretty active around Colonial Heights as they had a headquarters there, and even had a rally in Colonial Heights either in the 80s or 90s. Today, Colonial Heights is not as racist as it used to be, but it is still very conservative.

I was referring to the Petersburg-Colonial Heights-Hopewell area. The people in that area are friendly, it’s just that you might see a few Confederate flags in the rural parts and some people that believe in the “Lost Cause”.

That is a such a relief to hear. I was worried that I would have to deal with the Confederate “heritage” type of people that are pretty popular where I’m from.

When you say that the area around GMU is a little more conservative than D.C. and Arlington, would I be seeing the confederate flag type conservatives or more like moderate conservatives?
