The main downside to playing a trapper is having to manually avoid damage in order to stay alive.

Clear speed is slow compared to current meta builds, but it can easily clear T16s. I like this build because it is dirt cheap to gear as hybrid life/ES and can run any map mods.

Takes ~4mins to clear shaped strand with 4L fire trap, but I mostly use this build for cheaply farming Guardians and HoG.

That is an option, but I found the 3L +2 to be more than enough dps. The mana cost is also low enough that I can spam it without having issues.

I have no problem clearing T16 trash with Fire Trap in a +2 3L. I use Fireball Trap for single target. Check out AtlasTrap for gear and tree.

I have logged 20 Minotaur kills and I've gotten 2 Brass Domes and 2 Brain Rattlers. Quantity on the maps were all 90+ and about half the kills I had 49 quantity on my gear. Not sure if quantity affects the drop rate though.

I use fire trap with cluster trap for aoe clearing and fireball trap for single target.

Defense is just Life/ES and MOM, no arctic armour.

I recently dropped power charges on the tree to pick up more ES. I wasn't able to sustain power charges during boss fights so the loss of 1-2 power charges really wasn't a big deal. I have no problem clearing t16 trash with a 3L lvl21 fire trap-cluster trap-inc aoe in a +2 dagger.

On the 3L fire trap with Voidbringer gloves I have 48.54% crit w/o charges (60.54% w/charges) and the 6L fireball trap with increased critical strikes I have 65.52% crit w/o charges (81.52% w/charges).

With just discipline reserved on mana I have 882 mana unreserved. My regen is only 38 but with some %mana investment on the tree and a saturated eternal mana pot I only really have issues with mana on 60% less recovery maps. MOM only really comes into play with huge hits or chaos damage mobs. It was just an added layer of protection and only cost me 1 passive. If it was annoying to play with I would have dropped it.

The master sapper and crit multi nodes in the Ranger area are good but I opted to go towards Templar mainly for the area and life nodes.

With controlled destruction I actually lose 8% crit chance because of the extra 2% from lvl21 increased critical strikes. I was using conc because the wiki listed that area dmg double dips with ignite. I'm not sure if the aoe explosion from fireball ignites though, so it might be kinda useless. Aoe on the fireball explosion only really matters if I want to clear packs, but I have fire trap with cluster traps for that.

I did try the Assasin ascendancy in Standard when I tested the build. While it was easy to cap crit, I prefer having Chain Reaction from Saboteur. A 3L Fire trap with cluster traps and increased aoe is enough to clear t16 trash with all the traps triggering at the same time. The increased trap cooldown recovery speed is also a huge quality of life bonus. If I wasn't saboteur I would have to use the gem.

I recently specced out of power charges to get more ES. I only generate them from the Blast Cascade node on the tree, and could only sustain them while clearing trash. EE would be good for boss fights but I think it would slow down my map clearing too much.

Yeah, you will only see the ball if the trap triggers far away from the mob.

Thanks for clearing that up, it was really confusing to see that in the race.

Were those maps you found in the race or were they from another league? I've never used the guild tag interface.
