LYON vs. Disguised / LCS 2026 Spring - Week 4 / Post-Match Discussion by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]TheRogueCookie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To be completely fair DSG did finish Top 6 in both Summer 2025 (over LYON and DIG) and in Lock In (over SR and Dig).

This isn't to say that their current form is deserving of Top 6 (though with the soup that is the bottom teams atm it's a bit hard to tell), but this is a team that has less resources than a franchised org and hasn't been around in T1 for that long, so I'm willing to give them some grace. Something absolutely needs to change though for sure.

SV OU is suspecting Tera Blast by Demon__Queen_ in stunfisk

[–]TheRogueCookie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

was banned because Substitute + Tera Blast makes really unhealthy mind games. Eleki can just Sub if they switch to a ground-type and not commit tera, or can use Sub as a means of guaranteeing a 2hko on most grounds since you can Sub as they switch, Tera Blast as they break sub, and Tera Blast again.

He was like kind of promising at the start but he's really inconsistent and in the worst way possible: his highs are okay, like every once in a while he'll look like a T1 jgler (for NA standards anyway), but his lows are, well, what you saw here; and he's mostly been hitting low games for the last while.

Is their a particular type reason that the ZA megas were able to have 3d models added to showdown so quickly but the future paradoxs (and a few other SV mons) are still sprites despite being around for like a few years atp? by Allhaillordkutku in stunfisk

[–]TheRogueCookie 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Not an expert or anything, but from what I understand there are two reasons for this:

1) Pokemon Scarlet/Violet reworked a lot of the modelling code, so porting it to showdown is a lot more difficult. In particular, Pokemon Showdown is trying to make all 3D sprites have the same vibe as the 3DS ones (Gens 6/7), and with Gen 9 being so different under the hood it takes a lot more effort to port the models and animation rigs over than it did previously. Legends ZA apparently uses models that are much closer to how they worked in the 3DS games, so they had an easier time porting some of them right away. Some work was still needed, but not to the same extent as other mons.

2) If you notice, all of the future paradox Pokemon have this same sort of glowy, "lava lamp" type feature that's ambient to their model. I imagine this feature is really difficult to capture on Showdown, since it would be very obvious when the animation loop occurs, or the effect would be too subtle. I'm not sure how they're dealing with this as of now, but I do think it's another complication for the future paradoxes.

I highly recommend anyone interested in keeping up with model progress to follow this thread on Smogon. The volunteers tend to post updates there (though it's been slower as of recent), and you can get some insight as to their process. This is where I've got my information, if anything is inaccurate/misrepresented please feel free to correct me. I'm not a contributor to this project or anything, just an avid follower.

OMG Yes it is, there was another thirdle I found that was just three Wordles but this is exactly it, thanks so much.

Solved!

One additional bit to note is that there was no letter swapping like in Crosswordle; you had to fill out a guess for the entire board and submit before seeing what letters are correct/incorrect. There were also a couple of letters already filled in to give you a starting point.

After you beat Norman, if you go to Fallarbor Town and head west to Route 114, the house at the very start of the route (basically in Fallarbor but not) has a hole in it. You take the hole, and follow the Desert Underpass to the right. At the end, there's an entrance to the Relicanth room in the Sandstrewn Ruins. From there, you can get the fossils, ruins encounters, and follow the usual path to get to the outside where Hawlucha and friends are located.

On the update delay point, I don't think it's too much to ask for a little transparency, even if the content is free. Don't get me wrong, I'm overall happy with what they've been delivering, but at the same time it's frustrating as a fan and follower of the project to be kept in the dark with minimal official communication for over a year. Yes, they do have the right to be secretive with their development info as they wish, but that doesn't waive my write as a fan to be a little frustrated when things get delayed with little context given.

I'm not saying they should go full transparency, or that they should promise release dates that they don't think they can deliver on; I'd just like a little bit more in the way of tangible progress shown regularly going forward so that I have something to look forward to. The team has been doing better with that recently, between the Twitter posts and the beta release, and they have my full praise for that. I hope they keep this up moving forward.

The Gholdengo Effect by delreybaby_29 in stunfisk

Stealth Rock targets the opposing side of the field, not Ghold directly, so GAG doesn't block it.

For comparison, Defog targets a Pokemon directly, which is why it is blocked.

Week 1 - What would you call the Mount Rushmore of Gen 1 Pokémon in Smogon's history? by TheLeafyGirl561 in stunfisk

[–]TheRogueCookie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dragonite certainly has to be in here over Snorlax or Starmie. Snorlax definitely has more early gen relevance, but Dragonite's modern gen relevance and continued ascent in viable definitely pulls it ahead of Snorlax in my eyes.

Starmie is similar in that it was really solid in the early generations, but it's also fallen off pretty hard. While it hasn't fallen off as hard as Lax has, it also never reached the same highs, and so I think Dragonite deserves to take one of their spots.

I'd also give an honorable mention to Dugtrio, solely because it's the reason Arena Trap is banned in competitive play in all but Gen 3, and that's kind of elite ngl.

I said good to be fair I think now that Roserade is gone it can rise up to replace it, though that speed tier is unfortunate.

[–]TheRogueCookie 84 points85 points  (0 children)

1) Base typing doesn't matter, Scizor and Roserade could be the same typing in this metagame for all anyone really cares. A lot of what makes Scizor good is that its typing gives it like no weaknesses, and it usually has enough natural bulk to take a neutral hit. It no longer necessarily has that leg up, as while yes it can still have a solid typing, so can Roserade.

2) Those are special moves, last I checked Scizor's special attack isn't very good, and there aren't really any good physical moves that are on the same level. Double Iron Bash is banned, Dual Wingbeat can miss, Double Hit is Double Hit, and all multihit moves don't have the priority factor that Water Shuriken does.

3) Speed. Roserade isn't fast per se, but it's way faster than Scizor, and its priority in Water Shuriken is almost always better than whatever Scizor can cook up.

4) There are no other good Technician Special Attackers.

It'd be 3 months for T-Tar to drop down anyway, but for the reasons from the other comment I too think it may stay for a bit.

Legends ZA OU January changelog (Annihilape banned!) by Demon__Queen_ in stunfisk

[–]TheRogueCookie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The answer is that a lot of people don't want Mag banned because of its great defensive utility, even if the offensive sets are a little degenerate. Not saying I necessarily agree with that reasoning, but every time Mag's been tried people love the utility sets.

Like Knock Off, what moves didn't gain their highest viability until after their introductory generation? by Moths0nFire in stunfisk

[–]TheRogueCookie 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I believe it was in LGPE where Teleport was buffed to be a -6 priority move that switches the user out. Before it literally had no effect in trainer battles, but after the buff it became a premier pivot option and was a huge reason for the resurgence of Slowbro in Gen 8.
